5 out of 5 eggsWorth every penny!

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets, 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: -Very simple installation
-10x more quite than stock cooler
-Unlike what some reviewers said, mine came with metal screws to tighten the mounts. They were fairly easy to strip, as I wasn't originally using the best fitting screw driver but after I switched to a slightly smaller one, I got it snug with no issue
-Fits stock AM3 (Not AM3+) mount on motherboard
-Keeps AMD Athlon ii x4 640 at the same temp as stock cooler that came with the CPU under a decent load. I didn't test with processor intensive games/apps as I only really stream movies with my computer
-Very low profile size and shape. It is wider and a little taller than the stock cooler but was still barely able to fit next to my RAM slots and under my PSU (I have a small HTPC style case that had limited area for a cooler)

Cons: -None so far

Other Thoughts: -I would surely recommend this to everyone

My computer info:
- Thermaltake Black Lanbox Lite VF6000BWS
- AMD Athlon ii x4 640 95w CPU
- Gigabyte GA-880GMA-UD2H Mobo (very tight fit for the cooler next to the RAM but it fits)
- 16GB G.SKILL Ripjaw 4x4GB Model F3-10666CL9D-8GBRL
- SAPPHIRE DUAL-X Radeon HD 6970 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 Video Card
- Sandisk Ultra ii 120GB SSD
- Windows 10 Pro x64

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost impossible to mount on AM3+

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets, 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: Reasonably quiet, just a soft whirring /air movement noise. Much better than many.

Cons: Almost impossible to mount. I've been building PCs ~30 years, and this is the most trouble I've EVER had getting a heatsink in place. Reminds me of the early 90's before manufs figured out you need a lever for ZIF or HS mounting. The tabs are FAR TOO SHORT, and sit about 5 mm above the mount ears. I had to bend both sides down with pliers quite a bit, and even then I had to use so much force installing it I was worried about the pliers (impossible by hand, almost so w pliers) slipping and damaging the mobo.

Other Thoughts: Nice heatsink compound pre applied.
Dunno about the comments on screws- mine had none, and fan was press-fitted on HS. A little trouble getting it back on.

Overall, good thermal, sound, terrible mount!

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets, 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: cheap

Cons: If you don't get the screws out far enough on installation you'll break something.

I installed this on a new and already working mobo - and now get nothing, I believe that I pushed so hard that a connection in or near the CPU has been compromised.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets, 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: Very Quiet

Cons: It was quiet because it wasn't working. I went back to stock and got better temps.

Other Thoughts: The only advice I could say is never buy an AMD processor without copper on the Heatsink. Just an aluminum slab will not cut it.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets, 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: Price! This thing is really cheap and does a good enough job for most people. Super quiet, and cools better than my stock AMD cooler did.

Cons: Still doesn't cool well enough for my needs.

Other Thoughts: I bought this because the stock AMD fan was too loud, and it was only $18.99. For the price, this is an awesome cooler. However, my FX 8320 still goes over 70C while playing Skyrim. Granted, I use a ton of mods, including graphical enhancement mods, so that probably contributes to the high temps. I have since invested in a Corsair H60 liquid cooling system.
Still, I definitely recommend this cooler if you're not gaming. For everyday computing tasks, it does a great job, and I can't hear it at all!

4 out of 5 eggsLow price....Good fan

This review is from: ARCTIC Alpine 64 Plus CPU Cooler - AMD, Supports Multiple Sockets, 92mm PWM Fan at 23dBA

Pros: I have it on an AMD FX-6350 Vishera 6-Core 3.9GHz Socket AM3+ 125W and it runs at 50-57 degree while playing graphic intensive games (Alien Isolation).
Almost silent normally and when running at almost full speed is about the same noise as an AMD stock cooler at idle.

Cons: A little awkward to install, but take your time and don't force the screws. I had no problems.
