OCZ Vendetta 92mm Ball CPU Cooler

  • 1200 - 2800 RPM
  • 39 - 54.6 CFM
  • Aluminum & Copper
ICON Loading...

OCZ calls their combination heat sink and fan CPU cooler the "Vendetta" and it takes no prisoners in the battle against thermal build-up. Vendetta's trio of U-shaped, 8mm copper heat pipes are configured to be in direct contact with the CPU to efficiently move heat away from the processor and towards the cooling fins.

And, while thermal transference is good, it takes a fan to get things properly moving along. The Vendetta is rigged for silent running. The 92mm rifle bearing fan is attached to the vertical array of aluminum convection fins using vibration-damping rubber posts. It moves a healthy 54.6 CFM at its maximum 2800 RPM but only generates 34 dBA – comparable to that of a library.

PWM functionality lets the computer's BIOS reduce speed and noise even further depending on thermal need. The fins are configured to allow lower velocity air to pass through with less resistance and, they have been dimpled to break up laminar airflow and add turbulence which creates more efficient circulation.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance Three U-type heatpipes integrated with H.D.T. (Heatpipe Direct Touch) technology and high-density aluminum fins maximize heat transfer and dissipation. Plus a 92mm ball bearing fan runs efficiently to deliver unparalleled cooling performance.
  • newegg PWM Function The PWM function automatically adjusts fan speeds according to the CPU temperature for efficient cooling and minimized fan noise.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The OCZ Vendetta features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 755, 939, and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggsSo old, but still kicking!

Pros: Huge heat sink, doesn't require a fan with the right case, dissipates heat better than my buddy's.. what ever. This thing laughs at overclocks. Will fit older AMD sockets, Intel 775 and the newer AM3 and AM3+. I'm never buying another heat sink again.

Cons: The size is the only "con" I can think of. Not every case will fit this monster, then again.. if you want to overclock you need to do it right and get the right case first (one that will accept a huge sink).

Other Thoughts: This sink went in many, many moons ago with not a single problem to report yet.

5 out of 5 eggsGood cooler

Pros: Quiet and cools cpu well

Cons: Intel push pin design is hard to work with. Fixed that with a bolt, washer, and nut assembly from hardware store.

Other Thoughts: Keeps an overclocked Celeron e3200 @ 3.6Ghz 1.26v cooled at 58c max.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value for the money

Pros: These coolers work great with both the AMD Athlon X2 or Phenom 2. I have run a 5000 BE @ 3.2 for over a year on the first one, and no probs... Had to order a second one on my last build with a 955 BE cpu and it works just as well for my new quad.

Cons: Wish the fan had LED's...

4 out of 5 eggswoot

Pros: easy install on am2 board, dropped my temps 21 degree's Celsius on a 100% load for 20 minutes.

Cons: fan is noisy. even though it says ultra quiet fan..i'll have to buy another fan

Other Thoughts: for the price there's nothing else out there to compare. i got mine for less than 25 dollars shipped

5 out of 5 eggsSolid

Pros: -Keeps my AMD P2 X3 730 (OC'd to 3ghz and unlocked 4th core) at 32 degrees C idle and 39 at laod.

-Easy to instlall

Cons: -None

Other Thoughts: -Thing is massive, and heavy, but thats what you get for great cooling. Be careful during install, I almost dropped the thing on my mobo, which would have cause some damage...no room for butter fingers.

4 out of 5 eggsCool and Quiet

Pros: A Big Pro here. It keeps Cpu cool like it should. My temps are in line with most of the other praising reviews.

Cons: Really ticked me off that I had to run to store to get alcohol to clean the nasty bumpy residue left by the plastic sticky sheet that protected the bottom of the cooler from getting nicked in shipping. Im like "what could they have been thinking?"

Other Thoughts: Rubber tabs were awkward but I got over it cause they work well. Like someone else mentioned, for an AMD cpu on the tension bar, keep the lever on the opposite side of the fan and mount the fan before install if you can.

1 out of 5 eggsIt just did not work for me

Pros: I did not mind push pins. Tried 4 times to put cooler in without problems.
I thought maybe in was due to way it was sitting on top of CPU but that wasn't it.

Cons: I installed 2 other coolers before. This one was causing my CPU go to 66C in 2 minutes while running Prime95.
Computer was q6600 overclocked to 3.2GHz (8x clock multiplier).
I guess I got defective one and I returned it.
I replaced it with Zalman 9700 worked like a charm and on the first try - temperature now maximum at 53C after hours of testing.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry that you had installation problems. Most customers have no trouble at all, and see great performance. We regret that you could not make yours work properly.
Thank you

1 out of 5 eggsBoo

Pros: Might be the best heat sink on the planet... I wouldn't know, because due to the cons below, I am sending back and going with another product.

Cons: The push pins that you are supposed to use are horrible. I pushed in the two on opposite sides as it said, one stayed in, one did not. I could not get the three remaining pins to attach to the motherboard (spent two and a half hours trying. When I finally gave up, I could not get the attached pin to release; I ended up cutting it off to free my motherboard from this awful piece of equipment. The instruction mentioned nothing about what to do with either of these two difficulties.

Other Thoughts: I have never had this level of difficulty with other OCZ products, but after this I will probably steer clear of them in the future.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, we are sorry that you had difficulties installing this prduct. It is possible that the mounting holes in your board are not standard size, and this may have contributed to your problem. We will be glad to assist you with troubleshooting and installation on our support forums at the link below.
Thank you

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Great cooler & fan for the price. After installation without any overclocking, it dropped my core temps average of 20degrees!

Cons: None so far!

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Keeps my CPU very cool, 28c during normal use, and about 32 when gamming at high.

Cons: Instructions were a bit confusing.
Its very tall, almost hits the side panel of my Mid ATX case, and can't use a side fan because of it.
