From the heat pipes to the fins to the fan, everything here is designed to deliver the best cooling. Thick heat pipes with HDC technology, widely spaced aluminum fins and a PWM fan work side by side to dissipate heat efficiently. However, cooling is only part of the story. The SilverStone Argon Series AR02 also operates silently thanks to the fan’s anti-vibration rubber mounting. Argon series AR01 and AR03 are also available.

Heat-pipe direct contact (HDC) technology
The three thick 6mm heat pipes with heat-pipe direct contact (HDC) technology connect directly to your CPU when installed for extremely efficient first-level heat conduction. Transfer more heat from your CPU for maximum computing performance.

Widely spaced aluminum fins
The three 6mm heat pipes pass through aluminum fins in a U-shape for maximum heat transfer from the heat pipes. The aluminum fins are widely spaced for unobstructed air circulation while the surface is T-shaped for better heat conduction.
Forced-air heat dissipation
The SilverStone Argon Series AR02 comes with a compact 92mm PWM fan for smart cooling. Cool aggressively at full loads and silently at low loads.
Anti-vibration rubber mounting
The fan's anti-vibration rubber mounting comes built not only for stable rotating but also for silent computing.
Universal compatibility
The SilverStone Argon Series AR02 is compatible with Intel Socket LGA775/115X/1366/2011 and AMD Socket AM2/AM3/FM1/FM2. Enjoy a system upgrade without the hassle of purchasing an extra CPU cooler.

1 out of 5 eggsNot for Asus P8Z77-I Deluxe

Pros: Couldn't test. System would not start with this installed

Cons: First, let me say that I've done many builds and used many heat sinks.

Product-specific: like others have said, the instructions aren't all that clear. It calls the washers "rubber cushion" and the images are too small. I recommend searching YouTube for the videos on how to install this item.

I had to pre-thread the pegs into the backplate several times because the black plastic partially covered the edges on two of the spots I needed to put the pegs into. Having it on the motherboard while trying to do this isn't the best idea.

With that said, for the love of all that is tech, DO NOT INSTALL THIS ON AN ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe motherboard! This heat sink may, in fact be, outstanding once it's operational. I couldn't tell. My motherboard wouldn't even give me a green light on the power LED to show it had power.

On this particular motherboard, there are several components on the back. It just so happens that the metal backplate for this heat sink comes in contact with those components. While there is a black plastic to protect the immedate flat bottom from touching components, I found that it came in contact on two pegs of an IC circuit, as well as on another component on the sides, where it wasn't protected.

Other Thoughts: The backing on the ThermalTake Water 2.0 heat sink I had on this motherboard before came with an all-plastic backing. I would suggest that if you have components on the underside of the motherboard by the processor, you look elsewhere for your cooling needs. This is especially frustrating because this model is Silverstone's smaller model, great for small boards like mine in smaller cases. These small boards usually find creative ways, such as components on the underside, to cram more into such small boards, and Silverstone should have taken this into account with the design of the AR02.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

Thank you for your interests in SilverStone Products. First we would like to apologize for any inconveniences that you had with installing the AR02, it certainly was not our goal when we created the AR02 cooler to have the installation be at all difficult or complicated. In order to make it as easy as possible for all users across the globe, we actually created the user manual that you received in 10 different languages, including English. As an example, I have included a digital link to the instruction booklet at the end of this message.

As well, in case you required further assistance with installing the AR02 cooler, we have created in instillation video on YouTube that users such as yourself can watch to assist with your installation.

If you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us via the link on our website.

Best Regards,

SilverStone USA

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit motherboard - no matter how hard it try.

Pros: Looks cool - other than that, i dont see any.

Cons: Does not fit Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ motherboard, first, i had to modify (use a hacksaw and cut) the prongs that are used for the other sockets, because it fell on a capacitor on the motherboard. After that, there is a pretty complicated way to install it. Then the copper tubes dont actually sit on the CPU, that piece i modified? Yeah, thats between the copper tubes and the CPU, with a small hole in the modified piece (not my doing). After learning that, i chose not to use this and go with the stock cooler on my FX-8320 (google it, its not that bad).

Other Thoughts: I wish i would've googled the stock cooler that came with the FX-8320 before i bought this - i would've not bought this one.

4 out of 5 eggstiny, but functional

Pros: I bought this for one of my Xeon processors, and I'm pleased with it.

Cons: Mounting everything is kind of a pain. The first set of screws for the back-plate are difficult to tighten and the fan mounts are very strange.

Other Thoughts: I would not buy this same product again, unless I were able to find it for around $20....then again, I doubt I would find something to fit the size requirements (RAM clearance) since most heatsinks these days are unnecessarily gigantic towers.....especially if it's only for a stock clock CPU. Given that Intel heatsink/fan units suck- there is probably a very good market for small decent coolers, that aren't obnoxious and don't break the bank.

5 out of 5 eggsShe do...cool as well as larger units.

Pros: Small. Fits on most boards(with fans on both sides) without getting in the way of memory slots.

Works very well. I've never torture tested it. But I do monitor temps, and overclock. It's stays cool at all times. Sign of a good cooler, and a good seat/mount.

Fans are quiet. Reasonable even when gaming. Blue fans matched my motherboard and memory

Cons: Blue/white fans. Let's face it, in my case they fit well into the color scheme. But this will not be the case for a lot of folks.

Other Thoughts: I wanted to run a push pull config for this cooler. So I went to the manufacturer website, and sent them an e-mail. Within 24 hours, they had a matching fan in the mail for me. SilverStone's customer service is top notch. Thanks Joel.

Copper heat pipes are ugly. I'd like to see more CPU coolers have a silver top plate covering them, or plate the tops of them in aluminum.

The 92mm CPU cooler market is barren. It consists of a few junk pieces, overpriced high end stuff, and this(Which I do like). Sadly, giant 120mm and 140mm(and closed loop) coolers rule the market.

This is odd to me. A cooler this size works well for the kind of overclocking gamers do. And larger coolers take up so much case room, cause havoc to case air flow, unnecessarily stress motherboards because of their weight, and generally look out of proportion with most builds. I wish the market would show this category a little more love.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not fit

4 out of 5 eggsCPU Cooler

Pros: Compared to the AMD cooler this replaces, you can tell it is a quality product. Heavy cooper heat pipes, well made and packaged well. I installed this and threw away the AMD cooler. I have the A10 CPU and it is as I write this running at 13C per ADIA64. Cooler than the motherboard. Installation was not too hard, but Google some demos before you start unless you have used this cooler before. Fan was easy to install.

Cons: The instructions are almost worthless. I have build several PC but have used the manufacture's cooler. This one will fit about any motherboard, but you have to know "which end" is up. The directions don't help. Several parts are not used depending on your motherboard and you could get confused. Once you figure it out, the install was not bad. The fan when used as a pusher does come very close to my last memory slot. I am not using it so no big deal. But it might mean in the future that I have to sway the fan location. Not as quiet as I had hoped for but I can live with that.

Other Thoughts: Not having any others to compare this to, I have to say it is acceptable. Seems to work well.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: Performance: 20 degrees cooler than my stock fan, idle and working. Quiet, even with 100% CPU usage (tested with gaming & video editing). Tested on full speed, the fan is half as loud as the old stock fan.

Installation: I installed on an AMD FM2 CPU in an HTPC case. I didn't have a lot space in there, and this fit without a problem. Their clip-and-crossbar system for mounting the heatsink is very, very solid. Correclty assembled, this thing's going nowhere. Having the fan as a separate piece allows you to easily choose the direction it's going to blow out. And the fan is easily removable from the heatsink if you change your mind. You're provided with enough rubber mounts to install a second fan - though I don't know why you'd need it.

Cons: Well, you may need the extra rubber mounts just for re-tries. You really have to squeeze, shimmy and pull them into the fan's screw holes.

The instructions are... sparse. If you have a lot of experience installing heatsinks, you can get by on the instructions and your accumulated knowledge. Otherwise, do yourself a favor and google "Silverstone AR02 instructions" before you begin.

Other Thoughts: This one's got The Dreaded Backplate. You'll have to get at the underside of your motherboard to install, which - depending on your case - may involve dismantling your entire computer. I'm not calling this a "con," as the backplate makes the AR02 compatible with so many CPU's. Just have your eyes open going in - you may be at this installation a while.
