1 out of 5 eggsBearings are bad after 1 year

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: Quiet, at first.

Cons: Didn't last very long before the bearings went bad

Other Thoughts: After about 1 year the bearings started making an annoying clicking/grinding sound, similar to what a ball bearing sound like when it goes bad. And that shouldn't happen because 1) This is listed as a fluid bearing fan not ball bearing, so why would it sound like the latter? and 2) Fluid bearing fans should last anywhere from 100K-300K hours which is 10-30 years of 24/7 use, and I got maybe 10K hours before both of mine went bad. So is this truly a fluid bearing fan? I guess the only way to know would be to crack one open and take a look, which I haven't done because I'm waiting on an email back from the company to see if they will replace them under warranty or not. I wasn't able to get a straight answer when I called them, they said I had to send an email inquiry (which is odd) and I'm still waiting for a reply.

The bearing failure seems to be a common issue with these fans since I see many other reviewers that mention the same thing. And granted there are also a lot of positive reviews, but I think too many people leave positive feedback prematurely before using the product for an extended period of time and they don't update the review if they later have problems. If you look at the reviews from people who have owned them for a reasonable period of time they are almost 100% negative.

BOTTOM LINE: STAY AWAY FROM THIS FAN IF YOU DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO REPLACE THEM IN 1 YEAR!!

1 out of 5 eggsDEAD

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: It moved air.

Cons: Well after 1 1/2 years of easy use it decided to let a ball bearing go and die. The whole time I had it it was never really "silent" and given the price that I paid ($11.99) for it I am disappointed and since its out of the year replacement warrant I have a useless fan from a company I gave a chance and now regret. I've had fans for over 4 years that still work but this gave it up after on 1 1/2 years. I've learned my lesson and will stick to companies I have bought from that have good quality/durable products.

5 out of 5 eggsquiet

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: it is super quiet. i put these on my radiator and it cools well even without having a high static pressure. These fans get the job done and are still super quiet. i also am thinking of getting more of these fans for and intake and exhaust on my case

Cons: none

1 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: Good Price, Newegg Rocks

Cons: Bought several of these fans for my Antec P180 case. I was wanting more silence than performance. The fans are too loud for my taste. Its not a woosh or whine sound, but more of a chatter of something being unbalanced. Like a baseball card in a bike's wheel. Its very annoying. I will be replacing these with another vendor.

5 out of 5 eggsGood case fan

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: Flows good amount of air and keeps components cool, quiet.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Have used these fans for many years now with no issues. Still running after 2+ years and for how quiet it is, it does flow good amount of air.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent with controller

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: -High CFM even at low speeds.
-Good pressure characteristics even at low speeds.
-Works well in any orientation.
-Bought 3 plus 1 red LED version, no problems with any of them.

Cons: -At max speed this is not a silent fan by any means. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: At full speed, these fans are a bit loud. I don't think the 15dba rating is very accurate. On the up side, they move a lot of air for the noise level and do not make an irritating sound. Mostly moving air.

Subjectively, they seem to offer quite a bit of air flow AND good static pressure even down to ~40% speed with my NZXT controller. I set up a screen cage with some air conditioner filter for my side intakes. It's not all that restrictive, but my 230mm BitPheonix doesn't do nearly as well at lower speeds behind the filter. This fan doesn't seem to notice if the filter is on or not.

If you are not using a fan controller and want a very quiet fan, try the yellow version. I have not. If you are looking for a radiator or heatsink fan, I would still get a specialized high pressure design, but this would work better than other standard case fans I've used.

3 out of 5 eggsDO NOT USE THE RUBBER

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: Quiet

Cons: The stupid rubber pegs or whatever they call them to install and supposedly get rid of rattle or who knows what SUCK! They will shear off after about 6 months and cause the fan to fall off. Which in my case, fried my motherboard. Annoying!

5 out of 5 eggsBest fans I've seen for the price

This review is from: SilenX EFX-12-15 120mm Effizio Quiet Case Fan

Pros: These are good looking fans, and they are quiet while still having decent airflow. They aren't sleeve bearing so can be mounted vertically or horizontally. No LED's!

Cons: none so far
