XIGMATEK HDT-S963 92mm Rifle CPU Cooler I5 775 AMD compatible

ICON Loading...

Xigmatek goes beyond the conventional in their innovative, efficient thermal solutions. Instead of a copper base or bulky heat spreader, the HDT-S963 features a cutting edge solution for efficient thermal transference directly from the CPU – direct touch heat-pipes. These 3 U-shaped 6mm pure copper sealed tubes contain fluid which moves the heat upward into the array of large-surface area aluminum convection fins.

The fins are cooled by up to 54.6 CFM of cooling air from the 92mm fan spinning on rifle bearings. Even at its maximum 2800 RPM speed, the fan only generates 35 dBA of noise. This level can be lowered automatically, based on thermal demand utilizing the PWM functionality. Controlled by the BIOS, the fan's speed is adjusted automatically as the system detects changes in temperature.

A removable aluminum spoiler can be slotted into the rear of the fin array to direct some airflow upward or downward to cool adjacent motherboard components. The HDT-S963 sits upon vibration-eliminating rubber mounts which isolate any fan vibrations from the motherboard – ensuring quiet operation. A tool-less clip holds the cooler safely in place on any AMD Socket AM2, 754, 939 or 940 processor as well as all Intel Socket 775 CPUs.

  • newegg Superior Heat Dissipation and Cooling Performance Three U-type heatpipes integrated with H.D.T. (Heatpipe Direct Touch) technology and high-density aluminum fins maximize heat transfer and dissipation. Plus a 92mm, 2800RPM rifle bearing fan delivers an air flow of up to 54.6 CFM for exceptional cooling performance.
  • newegg PWM Function The PWM function automatically adjusts fan speeds according to the CPU temperature for efficient cooling and minimized fan noise.
  • newegg Easy Installation The XIGMATEK HDT-S963 features a 3-in-1 application retention module design for easy and quick installation without additional tools or the need to remove the motherboard from your case.
  • newegg Universal Socket Compatibility The XIGMATEK HDT-S963 features broad compatibility with AMD socket 754, 939, 940, and AM2 platforms, as well as the Intel LGA 775 platform.

5 out of 5 eggsCool Much

Pros: Absolutely brilliant got this unit to cool my 7750 black edition. Then upgraded to a fx 4100 and overclocked it to 5.0ghz amazing thing love it.

Cons: Does not bring me food?

Other Thoughts: Great for price, comes with hardware to fit just about every socket type and quiet. Could not be happier

5 out of 5 eggsWorks good enough to go fanless

Pros: price performance

Cons: not really a con but artic silver is somewhat betterer than supplied heat goop

Other Thoughts: Smilodon case, HDsx3, 1x bdrom, hd 5750. 955be @ 3.9Ghz temp with fan full load 37C @76F ambient, without fan 39C, Strange that without the fan the the cpu temp went up 2C and chipset temp went down 9C.

5 out of 5 eggsGood

Pros: o Works great, no problems

o Was rated at 5 stars and cheapest for AM3 (price changed recently)

Cons: o Got a weird shim of metal that doesn't fit anywhere. And there is conflicting information on the web compared to the install instructions in the box

o Their web support never answered back

Other Thoughts: o Pretty darn tall, make sure you have enough case space

5 out of 5 eggsCan't go wrong

Pros: -Excellent solution for air cooling; proven and tested through many reviews to be effective and useful
-Helps air flow throughout your case (ability to aim the fan directly to the rear of your case)
-Reduced loaded temperatures by 9°C on my Q9400 OC'd to 3.2GHz (compared to stock Intel cooler @2.6GHz)
-Comes with mounts for both Intel and AMD
-It has a spoiler, yo!

Cons: -It has a spoiler? Wanna-be heat-sink! :P

Other Thoughts: I usually only mildly overclock to try to maintain lower TDP, lower temperatures, and allow longer life with my components (while achieving some performance increase). I recently upgraded my GPUs (Crossfired) and temperatures inside my case rose dramatically (no side fan; Lian-Li PC6400) and I also wanted to push my CPU further since it's starting to show some bottlenecking in some benchmarks or games. I wanted a simple solution that was tried and tested to keep my CPU going strong without fearing it'd die from a heat stroke. This was it.

Even if you're not into overclocking at all, I highly recommend this HSF combo to extend the life of your CPU.

5 out of 5 eggsNice cooler

Pros: It's cooler than some of the more expensive tower heatsink and fan combos (Xalman). Comes with a variety of motherboard parts. Nice copper pipes.

Cons: Takes up a lot of room. Difficult to lock into place dead center over the chip (it can slide around in an AMD socket). Takes about 10 minutes to setup (each) by the time you install the fan on the shroud, the airfoil, add real conductive compound, and mount to MB.

Other Thoughts: I had a pair of these in a dual processor case. Not a problem with this itself, but the layout of my board mandated that one of these blow through the other for ventilation making one of the chips hotter. This is one of the few fans they recommend for Opterons on the Newegg site. I ended up using a pair of the stock copper heatsinks that came with a couple of Phenom 9950bes. With the leftover heatsinks I used one in my server to reduce the temps by 15C.

5 out of 5 eggsNice fan

Pros: Works as expected. SETI @ Home can keep the CPU pegged at 100%. This helped bring the core temps back well below 50 degrees C.
I have this in an Antec 300 case on an older Intel quad core.

Cons: Pretty tall. May cause problems with some cases.
If you have a case that has the cup to bring in outside case air to the CPU, this won't work.

Other Thoughts: Give a small squirt of Simple Green on those rubber vibration dampers and they'll slide right into the holes on the fan.

5 out of 5 eggsSuper Happy

Pros: I don't have side fans installed on my NZXT Beta Evo, but I'm pretty sure they would clear if I had installed.

Keeps my Phenom II 720 BE (running 4 cores @ 3.3ghz) nice and cool.

Clears my Ripjaws RAM, pushes air straight toward my 140mm top exhaust fans.

Cons: Instructions are vague... but it isn't rocket science if you are the least bit mechanically inclined.

Other Thoughts: Saw several comments about the spoiler, but if you slide it onto the non-fan side between the lowest two fans it clicks in and stays put.

1 out of 5 eggsJUNK

Pros: none...price?, size

Cons: NOT FOR SANDY BRIDGE i7's , idles at 40 degrees, hovers close to 70+ at load, fan IS SUPER LOUD!!! WASTE OF TIME and GOOD THERMAL PASTE

Other Thoughts: flimsy, cheap feeling, fins fell apart in my hand. might be ok for any low end intel, NOT SANDY BRIDGE, keep it under 95W, should be fine

4 out of 5 eggsWorked perfectly for MY motherboard.

Pros: I have a DFI LANParty UT SLI with a 939 dual core cpu and this cooler is designed perfectly for it.

Cons: The problem is most motherboards would have this cooler pointed towards the top of the case. If you have a top vent or fan you are fine. If you have your power supply at the top, you will have problems with your cpu overheating. Be warned.

Other Thoughts: For $10 there is a bracket that allows you to mount this cooler correctly on am2 and am3 motherboards, but for the combined total you can get a better cooler anyway (120 mm).

5 out of 5 eggsgreat cpu cooler

Pros: cools great, quiet, good price, wish I would have bought this one first over the cooler master

Cons: instructions stink, be nice if the attaching pieces centered the cooling assembly on the chip but that is up to you things kind of slop around until you click it down on the AMD version
