OverviewCustomer ReviewSpecificationsProduct Tour
Xigmatek strives to create reliable, earth-friendly, powerful thermal solutions. The HDT-SD964 is no exception as it's designed to provide supreme performance while remaining whisper quiet. Four 6mm sealed copper heat pipes draw heat away from the solid copper base. The array of aluminum convection fins is penetrated by these heatpipes and efficiently dissipates the surplus heat.

They are cooled by the 54.6 CFM of cooling air generated by the 92mm rifle bearing fan at its maximum speed of 2800 RPM. Even though the fan generates a relatively quiet 30 dBA of noise at this top speed, it can be automatically controlled by the BIOS through the use of the built-in PWM support. When the computer detects a lower thermal need, the fans speed can be reduced which, in turn, lowers the audible level. A second fan can be added on the other side of the array for additional cooling if desired.

The HDT-SD964 rests on rubber shock absorbers which eliminate any vibration which may be transferred to the motherboard – thus eliminating any possibility of noise. It connects securely through the use of either push pin or a tool-less clip. It supports Intel's Core 2 Extreme, -Quad, Duo, Pentium Extreme Edition and Pentium D chips along with the Celeron D and AMD's Athlon 64, FX, X2 in addition to Opteron and Sempron processors.

Great

Pros: Excellent Heatsink. Does an incredible job, especially considering it is only a 92mm. I put this on my newest build, MOBO: DFI LP DK x48, and a E8400.

@3.6 Ghz OC, idle @ 38C and fully loaded 52-53C. Amazing perf. for its size.
Cons: Theres 2 cons:
1. The push pins for Intel just suck IMO. They do not give much confidence the HS is installed correctly. Some people may have no trouble at all ... and some may have a very hard time getting all 4 fully seated. (takes a lot of force sometimes)
Not really the Heatsinks fault though.
I got the Xigmatek retention bracket ((which can also be found here at newegg)) To mount it. Didnt even try the push pins, just got the bolt thru kit.

2. Make sure to instal the fan AFTER it is securely mounted. The fan will hang over the front to pin area and make it difficult to secure if already in place.

Just use a small screwdriver (very small) to push to rubber mounts in to the fins and its easy.
Other Thoughts: Very impressed. Great Product for such a small size

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: - Above the aluminum heatsink it is seemingly well-made.
- Well-reviewed.
- Friendly, knowledgeable Customer Support
- Aesthetically pleasing design
- GREAT fan mounting system (the rubber inserts) See "Other Thoughts" below:
Cons: - The aluminum base protruded slightly below the heatpipes prohibiting proper contact with the CPU, thereby preventing the vaunted HDT (Heatpipe Direct Touch) from actually working.
- Weak mounting clip that distorts under pressure
- Aluminum base (see above).
- Heatpipes were rough and not mirror-finished like the rest of the pipes. (VERY noticeable by touch as well as sight).
- Fan did not work properly upon receipt. (Tested pre and post install)

Finally and most importantly, the temperature of the CPU did NOT change (from the original aluminum block-type stock heatsink) even after remounting the item 4 times with distinctly different, and carefully applied, amounts of thermal compound!
See "Other Thoughts" below:
Other Thoughts: NOTE: It must be made clear that Sam (the CSM at Xigmatek) was very concerned about all the aforementioned issues and was more than willing to replace both the heatsink and fan with a new, hand-picked and inspected heatsink with tested fan, though I would have to pay shipping TO them for their admittedly defective item. Xigmatek needs a system in place (as most other companies have) whereby they can provide a pre-paid shipping label to return a defective item to them, thereby removing the "burden" (in principle) from the consumer. Based upon this, a the defectiveness of the item, I have decided to return the item to Newegg instead.

Insane Cooler

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: CPU: E1200@2.67ghz
Compared to Stock Intel Fan from P4 I was using, XIGMATEK 92mm cooler is, subjectively and temp-wise, superb. Noise level dropped by a lot especially under load. Idle is dead quiet. Personally, I can't really notice the noise diff. between idle and load. It's really amazing. Temp with stock intel fan was 43 idle / 70 load. Temp with this cooler is 25 idle / 46 load. This is just right after setting up too. After thermal paste sinks in, temp could go down even further.
Cons: None so far.
Other Thoughts: Newegg delivered this free... all the way from CA to Toronto

Pros: - big, but not obscene.
- actually fit in my case.
- I can't comment on temps because I never used the stock HSF.
Cons: - finishing on bottom is ok, heat pipes makes it impossible for smooth/gapless contact.
Other Thoughts: Do not use the grease that it comes with, pick up some decent stuff of your choosing.

This user purchased this item from Newegg
Pros: It keeps my E6300 Wolfdale running 3.5ghz at 42C under load and 27C at idle. This is with the fan running at ~50%, so it is near silent as well. I'm more than happy with that performance. Good bang for the buck.
Cons: The screw-mount support bracket is not included with the cooler as it is with many other similar coolers.
Other Thoughts: The rubber mounts used to secure the fan to the heat exchanger take some patience, but do a good job in the end. Some users complain that they break during installation. None of mine broke, although I can see how that could happen if you are not careful. Just take it easy.
