Overview

The new Xigmatek XAF Series of 140mm system fans continues the company’s innovative design focus to provide advanced features and performance while maintaining excellent value to the end user. The innovative “waveform” shape of the fan blades on the XAF series aren’t just for show and provide real performance benefits. The XAF series also features a very high quality copper bearing system which extends the service life of the fan 50% over that of fans using regular ball or sleeve bearings.

Xigmatek XAF-F1451

A New Wave in Fan Design

The unique “waveform” fan blade shape of the XAF series fans were specifically designed to maximize airflow per revolution. The “waveform” shape, along with the minimized central hub, increases the surface area of each fan blade over traditional designs and delivers up to 15%-20% more CFM at comparable RPMs over normal fan designs. Furthermore, unlike traditional fans which act like an air scoop, the irregularly shaped wave of air that forms in front of the “waveform” blade helps to reduce the collection of dust on the fan blade itself.

• Innovative “waveform” fan blade designed for performance – The unique shape of the XAF series fan blades and the minimally sized central hub dramatically increases blade surface area and generates 15%-20% more CFM at comparable RPMs to traditional fans. More airflow equals better cooling performance.

• Dramatically reduces dust collection – Traditional curved fan designs act like air scoops and over time they collect dust over the entire blade which increases air resistance and decreases performance. The unique “waveform” fan blade of the XAF series generates an irregularly shaped pressure wave in front of the fan blade which helps to reduce dust collection.

• High quality copper bearing for long life – The bearing is the heart of a fan system. Xigmatek’s use of superior grade copper materials for the bearing system ensures up to 50% longer service life than regular ball or sleeve bearing designs. Greater reliability gives you peace of mind for your PC system.

Features

3 out of 5 eggsAlmost an amazing fan

Pros: I purchased 2 of these Xigmatek fans as exhaust fans for the top of my case. Here are my observations:
-Almost silent
-Definitely more air flow than the rest of my fans
-Great design allows easy use for both 120mm and 140mm fan locations

Cons: In the exact orientation that I needed the fans, they rattled. I purchased 2 of them, and they both rattled which tells me it's the design, not a fluke. The rattling wasn't horrible, and I almost decided to live with it.

I had them installed flush with the top of my case with the air flow directed up out of the case. I checked to make sure they were snug against the rubber grommets. I tried varying the fan speed. Couldn't make them stop rattling.

Other Thoughts: In any orientation other than described in the "Cons", the fans are amazing. Even attached to the top of the case with air flow directed down, they were silent. It was literally just the one configuration that I needed that rattled.

I switched around the 2 Xigmatex fans with the front and back chassis fans that were installed by the case manufacturer. No more rattling from the Xigmatex fans on the front and back of the case!

I think these are great fans, but the rattling in exact orientation I needed keeps me from giving it a great rating.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Fan

Pros: I don't know if it really change anything but you can have great control over your fan, because of the 4 pin. That's nice.

Cons: None really.

4 out of 5 eggsNice looking fans that work great.

Pros: Good looking
pretty quiet at low rpm!
mounts 120/140mm

Cons: sometimes minor noises while inverted

Other Thoughts: I've one of these fans in the top and the bottom of my case, one inlet and one exhaust. the one on the top will make rattle sounds at higher RPM when things are turned up and hot, but since that's only when I'm running a benchmark and the fans are at 100% it's no problem doe me. They prefer to be mounted vertically rather than horizontally I think. They're very quite at low/idle/surfin' the web speeds.

4 out of 5 eggsAverage Case Fan...

Pros: 1. Noise Level <18 dBA. My two installs run very quiet but, I added cushions between the fan and desktop case.
2. Life Expectancy 150,000 hours.
a. Copper bearing system, aeronautical oil system bearing; 50% longer service life over fans with ball or sleeve bearings.
b. PR from Xigmatek sounds great, time will tell!

Cons: 1. “Waveform” fan blade shape touted to reduce dust collection! After 8 months in a home environment, no big deal, can't tell any improvement!
2. Very difficult to mount using their "adapters." Could never get the “adapter to fan body” tight enough to prevent loose play in mounting. I installed two fans, all eight “adapter to fan body” were very loose fits.
3. No cushion/insulator supplied by Xigmatek; had to buy rubber grommets to insulate/cushion these two fans from fan-to-case vibration. For the price charged by Xigmatek, they should at least include some cheap insulators.

Other Thoughts: PC: Windows 7 Pro x64 OS; Intel i5-3570K CPU; ASUS P8Z77-V LK Rev X.0x MoBo; Samsung SSD 830; ST1500DL003-9VT16L; ST31000528AS; ST3500418AS; Crucial Ballistix BLS2KIT4G3D1339DS1S0 16 GB; Gigabyte GV-N430-2GI Video; ASUS DRW-24B1ST ODD; Marvell 91xx SATA 6G Controller; TP-LINK TL-WDN4800 WiFi; Corsair CX750 750W ATX PFC PSU; Cooler Master RC-692A-KKN5 ATX Mid Tower.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Fan

Pros: 90 CFMs is always a Pro! Looks very stylish! Capable of installing into 120mm slots, as long as you have openings your good!

Cons: I think the noise rating may be higher then stated. Not a high pressure fan so don't use it as a heat sink fan if you can avoid it.

Cons: I think the noise rating may be higher then stated. Not a high pressure fan so don't use it as a heat sink fan if you can avoid it. A little pricey!

Other Thoughts: This fan has good airflow considering the low RPMs it turn. Not sold on the AOS yet, but the fans are still going strong!

1 out of 5 eggsLOUD

Pros: It's a fan I guess.

Cons: Very loud. Not defective like there was something rubbing, just lots of hum and white noise. It drowned out the harddrives, psu, other fans on my pc. Tried it against the stock fan on my Coolermaster case and the stock fan was amazing in comparison. This fan could be okay for an office or a classroom situation, but if you really need a quiet environment forget about it.

3 out of 5 eggsGreat Unless You Get a Dud

Pros: VERY quiet when running at 60% or less
120 mounting holes
Design is very sexy

Cons: This fan has a very annoying clicking sound when run at ~70% speed or above. I have it mounted at the bottom of my case as an intake and I found that the clicking goes away when I lay my case on its side. Apparently it likes running vertically rather than horizontally? I have spent a while trying to find out if anything else in the case is vibrating and causing the noise, but it is definitely coming from the fan. It is also fairly expensive unless you find it on sale.

Other Thoughts: If the clicking noise wasn't there I would give this a 5/5. But since the price jumped and I have to run the fan at a lower setting than I'd like 3/5 seems appropriate.
