Intel's new Core i7 CPUs mark an exciting advance in processing power, but they definitely require a high quality heatsink if you want to cool them without excessive noise. Noctua offers easy entry into the world of premium quality quiet cooling with the NH-U12P SE1366, a premium value package that offers everything you need to cool Core i7 CPUs quietly.

Heat is drawn away from the CPU by the base of the copper heatsink and transferred up into the array of hi-grade aluminum fins for dissipation. A large 120mm fan spins on each side of the array blowing heated air away from the heatsink. The fans' support for PWM lets the BIOS control the speed of the fan based on the CPU's thermal needs – lowering the fans speed and noise during off-peak cycles.

The NH-U12P SE1366 ships with Noctua's SecuFirm2 mounting system that combines outstanding reliability, optimal contact pressure and easy, straightforward installation on the new LGA1366 socket. A tube of Noctua's pro-grade NT-H1 thermal compound is bundled in as well.

  • newegg Excellent Quiet Cooling Performance The Noctua NH-U12P consists of 4 dual heat pipes, soldered joints and widely-spaced aluminum cooling fins to guarantee optimal heat dissipation even at low fan speeds.
  • newegg Dual NF-P12 Premium Fan Dual NF-P12 cooling fans feature psycho-acoustic optimizations and Noctua's premium-grade SSO-bearing to achieve exceptional quietness and long-term stability. With the supplied Low-Noise Adapter (L.N.A.) and Ultra-Low-Noise Adapter (U.L.N.A.), you can fine tune the fan speeds for the optimum balance between cooling performance and noise level.
  • newegg SecuFirm2 LGA 1366 Mounting System The SecuFirm2 Mounting System provides superior reliability and contact pressure on the Intel LGA1366 platform, and features one-piece fastening brackets with integrated springs and screws for easy installation.
  • newegg NT-H1 Thermal Compound The included pro-grade NT-H1 thermal compound provides extremely low thermal resistance as well as excellent pliability and spreadability. The NT-H1 is packaged in a syringe for easy control of the amount applied.

5 out of 5 eggsYeah its huge.

Pros: Whisper quiet, and keeps my i7 super cool. This was far superior then the aftermarket fan that is suplied with my processor. Which as I am learning needs to have a robust cooler much like this Noctua.

Cons: When reading some of the reviews and performing my own self measuring no way did i figure this thing to be this large. I have a full tower which I am very happy i have, if not it probably would not fit.

Other Thoughts: One thing I had discovered during installation was i did not need to install both fans to keep the processor cool. This was great because it reduced the power consumption and reduced the sound, not that it needed to.

5 out of 5 eggsTop Notch Cooler

Pros: I'd have to say the highlight of this kit is the mounting system. It uses a clever (and initially a bit confusing) bracket system with a back plate for a positive stop attachment to the CPU. No need to worry about too much or too little torque as it's preset. When you hit the stop that it's job done pretty much idiot proof once you figure out how all the bits go together and the documentation uses very clear illustrations to helo you through this.

Cons: It is a good size cooler but coming from a V10 (now that's huge) I wouldn't say this was extraordinarily large. See other thoughts though for a bit of a snag I hit. I won't dock this cooler for it but you should be aware of this.

Other Thoughts: This is a very well thought out and engineered system to be sure. They even include vibration dampening strips that adhere to the fans so they don't transfer their vibration to the cooler thus keeping the sound down. This dampening strip caused the rear most fan to protrude enough that it was actually putting pressure on the A1 RAM sttick causing a failure to POST. I'm going to take the hit for this one as I could have mounted the strip a bit more inboard and it should have been fine. Just be aware that you are going to be very, very close to the first RAM stick on a Rampage II Extreme. Can't speak for any other board. All things considered I;d say this is an exceptional air cooler and very well suited for modestly overclocked i7 systems.

5 out of 5 eggsNoctua Nh-u12p

Pros: This CPU Cooler is really nice and i don't know why people say is hard to install cause i installed in less then 20 minutes and it takes 20 minutes cause you need to take the motherboard out. My temps are normaly 40c and when the cpu is 100% goes to 70c and im overclocking from 2.6 to 3.6 (Intel i7 920) am very happy with this product .

Cons: Nothing

5 out of 5 eggsHuge

Pros: Lowers my core i7 cores by 15C easy. Doesn't add much noise, my temps not doing anything are at 40-46C. VERY TALL. Barely fits my case, and i have the largest one, that's because of the proc placement on the mobo too.

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent cooler for silent pc builders

Pros: quiet quiet quiet. not as heavy as i thought it would be. mostly easy install. if you want a silent pc without going to liquid cooled this is a good option.

Cons: Attaching the fan clips to the bottom were the only difficulty to the install. they created a bit of a sweaty brow moment.

Other Thoughts: If you're building a HTPC or DAW as I am this is an excellent option.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is a Beast!!!

Pros: -Includes 2 120mm fans
-Runs very quiet, even with both fans installed and running at full speed
-Keeps my OC'ed i7 920 very cool

Cons: -Very large. Don't let the pictures fool you, the reviewers on this site are NOT exaggerating. Be sure it fits in your case before purchasing.

-While instructions are clear, make sure to pay very close attention to the pictures, as there is not much in the form of written instructions describing how to install it. If you don't pay attention the pictures, you may initially install it incorrectly.

-Fan color leaves much to be desired.

Other Thoughts: Great cooler. Works wonders and provides excellent cooling to the CPU. Large fans can help overall airflow in case.

3 out of 5 eggsokay for non-OC'd

Pros: quiet with both fans installed and pushing 1400rpm

Cons: Idle: 37°C
Low Load: 39-42°C
Med Load: 44-46°C
Heavy Load: 47-49°C

got the i7 920 up to 52°C running 8M on SuperPi

Other Thoughts: If you like quiet and don't plan on overclocking or doing anything that requires heavy cpu loads this is will work.

If you OC or run heavy apps you might want to replace the fans that come with this with some vantec tornados for higher CFM's (unless you're smart and go with water cooled)

** HAF 932, i7 920 not OC, 6gb corsair dominator ddr3, asus p6t6 ws, xfx radeon hd 4890, 2x SAS 15k rpm 300gb in raid0

5 out of 5 eggsIts a big mother!

Pros: Its quiet, it cools like I have never seen before, looks good and does it job fantastic. I am totally confident in buying this cooler.

Cons: none but read "other thoughts".......

Other Thoughts: Its big! Darn big. Make sure you have the room to install this. I have this installed on an ASUS P6T V2 in a Cooler Master Storm Scout case and I have less than an inch from the side window to the top of this fan. This has made it impossible to install the second fan on the window, but thats not a problem since I have enough cooling and I was able to install the first fan on the window (the window has places for 2 fans set vertically). I also was able to install both fans on this cooler since I had the room. If you want to use both fans, again, make sure you have the room. The other thing that I want to point out is that the fans that come with this cooler are beige and brown. Kinda an ugly choice of colors considering all the colors in the spectrum to choose from. If you dont like the fans that come with it, you can always buy other fans but it isnt really necessary. All in all, this is a great cooler.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: works as advertised - keeps my overclocked 965EE from melting and does it quietly.

Cons: CPU still runs hotter than i had expected (near 80C under heavy load at 4G), but i reallize air flow and ambient room temperature is probably more the cause for this, but at 10-20C higher than benchmarks and reviews is still dissapointing: -1 egg.

Other Thoughts: i bought this product based on the many reviews that i read about it. i had an expectation based on those reviews, and it did not (quite) meet those expectations. but, it is still an excellent product.
