The only 70mm stand-alone fan with PWM that I could find
- Pros: PWM goodness, Delta quality
- Cons: Short cable, a bit pricy
- Other Thoughts: I purchased this for the sidewall for a custom SFF build where I have had a 70mm fan with a fan controller for the last 4-5 years. Because of the airflow issues during load, I have always had to adjust the fan speed up when the fragging started. So, I went with this one to let the motherboard do the work ;) I know that Delta has made the OEM fan on AMD heatsinks for many years and I think they are one of the better brands out there. Of course, this particular size is mostly for replacement of CPU fans, hence the 5-6" cable. I had to buy a 4-pin extension cable (Newegg failed me by not stocking these) to reach from the cpu header to the side wall, even in this small case, but it will be worth it. With the cramped cables in this case, which always find the fans to rub up against (even when cabled/bundled), the included fan guard will also come in handy.
Noisy, but effective.
- Pros: This thing moves air like an aurora bomber. Unfortunately it also breaks the sound barrier.
- Cons: If you don't have decent cooling for your case as a whole, this thing will spin up and down between 2k and 4k RPMs like crazy. It's highly annoying when it can't decide between the two. If you're using it for an HTPC or have an Opteron that runs cool it'll suit the task at hand quite silently. If you don't have any throttle control... forget it. You'll be causing level 5 tornadoes when this thing is at max speed.
- Other Thoughts: Make sure you have clearance around your 3 pin fan CPU connector. If not, you will have to cut a pin off. It works fine, but it's inconvenient. I suggest using a small pair of wire cutters to chop the channel off, then sand it down. Works fine, but just FYI.
worked good as a replacement fan on socket 939 hs ,,
- Pros: low profile is nice,, moves air good,,
- Cons: a tad bit noisy, but hey who cares if it moves the air good, the metal cover piece is not my favorite thing , so i just took it off
- Other Thoughts: didnt get to do much more than test it , my cpu was dead when i got it, so it just sitting in a bin on my workbench,,, hope to use it soon, has 4 pin connector , which is good unless your plug for the cpu fan on the board is too close to a capacitor, or a fixed item on the board,
