Finally, I can hear myself think!
- Pros: My XPS 420 stock VGA fan sounds like a mosquito buzzing in my ear - or maybe a hydroplane? Anyway, it was high-pitched and unpleasant to be sure. Pretty easy install, very quiet and seems to be keeping the card cool so far. As long as it keeps working, I will have no complaints.
- Cons: None so far but will add to review if anything comes up.
- Other Thoughts: Bought 12/22 - arrived 12/23 - Fast Newegg shipping even at Christmas!!!
Not for a serious gamer
- Pros: Copper. Looks cool.
- Cons: The fan is a joke. The heatsink setup is a joke. Don't go with this just because it is different than the others....someone who needs REAL cooling needs something with a normal fan, not this sideways stuff Zalman seems to enjoy making. It looks and sounds cool, but it simply doesn't work as well as a more normal VGA cooler. The included RAM sinks are not as good as they could be. Sometimes they wouldn't all fit because the cooler itself got in the way!
- Other Thoughts: I bought this and used it on three different cards (2 nvidia and 1 ATI), on all three it didn't show much of a difference from the stock (worthless) fan units, and my cards still overheated. 3 out of 3 fails is pretty bad. I went with this because it was a unique idea that Zalman made look good, but in the end I wished I had bought a normal, more straightforward, more POWERFUL cooling solution, not this weak thing.
Works Great
- Pros: Super easy to mount. It took me all of 5 minutes to install this cooler on my XFX 7600GT AGP card. Kit is very complete with complete instructions, VRAM heat sinks and a generous tube of thermal compound. Dropped my idle temperature from 47 to 43C. Super quiet fan. Can barely hear it when it is running.
- Cons: Depending on the mounting holes on your card, the top of the cooler may stick up as much as 1" above the top of the video card. (it does on the XFX 7600GT AGP). While this may not pose a problem for a standard tower case, it may not fit in a close HTPC case or (in my case, an Antec Skeleton) without some modification to the case.
