5 out of 5 eggsFrenchie, your spelling &...

Pros: I have had my Remote Controlled pair since CompU*A closed down their Retail Chain and was sold to Lying Direct and now sells on the 'net. Got a grand new (2nd)set for $60 at Close-Out price. Original set (a little different from the 2nd set) sounds brand new- even after connecting the 2 sets together and jammin' on my old '60's, '70's & early '80's ROCK!. NEWEGG, you are still the MAIN place I rely on when it comes to PC supplies and the like.

Cons: Price of 1st pair was $130.00... when they went on sale at Fly's, CompU*A or PC CRUB, they were still $120 or 'maybe' a few $'s less at one store for weekend competition. Newegg always had them above $120 and then the shipping made them cost more than the retail outlets+tax+fuel+a Saturday out shopping for PC components at a retail PC Component store, hunting the deals before they were all grabbed off of the shelves.

Other Thoughts: Frenchie, the word "Says" is not spelled "sais", and- if you use some Deox-iT GOLD on the headphone jack and spray a little on a "Custom-Formed" cotton swab, slip it into your headphone jack and spin it around a little, then spin a clean cotton swab around again, to clean out any excess "Electrical Contact Cleaner-Lubricant" (Deox-iT), and make sure there are no SWAB-FUZZ hairs inside the jack pocket or ON the headphone jack- you'll be back to your old headphone jams... NEWEGG, you are still #1 in my Wallet!

5 out of 5 eggsGood sound for price

Pros: Purchased mine at BestByy about 5 or 6 yers ago (paid $100 at that time) and they are still going strong...NEVER a problem. The sound is good quality. Now if you push that system to get it to blast the neighborhood why not investing a few thousands dollars in a home theatre system.

Cons: Minor but annoying...after 6 years of use the headphone jack on the side of the main speaker got worn out, lose or who knows what. It is impossible to open those speakers, not sure a hammer would do it so I'm stuck with no headset output. Who sais they don't last?

Other Thoughts: My kids threw food at them, I throw nicotine and candle wax and they are still going and going and going :0)

2 out of 5 eggsGood While They Last

Pros: Sound Great While they work. Have had three sets. One for Home MP3 based stereo and two on computers. Two have the three sets have died after 2-3 years.

Cons: Don't last. Two of three sets died within 2 years.

Other Thoughts: Sucks for me. Don't know how long other manufacturers system last, but if you don't want to have to replace after a couple years buy from different manufacturer.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't be fooled

Pros: -Plenty loud
-space saving design

Cons: The problem with these speakers is that the bass in the subwoofer is WAY too overpowering for the very tiny drivers in the desktop speakers. When you go to turn the bass down, it creates a loud and obnoxious humming sound.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor, and don't buy these speakers. i had thought that Altec Lansing was a reputable company with good products, but i guess not. You would be better off buying from a brand like sony, cyber acoustics, and if you can afford it buy bose. I returned these speakers to staples (where i bought them) and picked up a cyber acoustics 2.1 set with a tinier less overpowering subwoofer and bigger desktop speakers, and they are terrific, much better than the altec lansing speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing Sound !!!

Pros: These speakers are stylish and well designed. Crystal clear sounds emit throughout the room. The bass was extrodanary with movies and music. The adjustable settings on the speaker come in handy when watching many videos in a row to equalize the sound. Light touch power switch is nice to use. This system has a great frequency respone. No bass humm on mine?

Cons: Shipping was a little high.

1 out of 5 eggsTerrible units

Pros: Comes in black.

Cons: Sub-woofer unit has annoying low-level hum at all levels. Midrange/high units don't sit flat on a desk, and are prone to wobble. The angle of tweeter units cannot be adjusted. I really wanted to buy another unit of a previous Altec-Lansing model (# VS4221), which is no longer available (and is an excellent unit!), and thought this would be reasonably equal. It's not!

This is not a comparable model, although it's designed and priced to be so. It's the dumbed-down, cheap-end cousin. A-L should be ashamed to have inflicted this on consumers.

5 out of 5 eggsCollege Dorm Awesome

Pros: Altec Lansing has never failed me on Price:Quality ratio. These speaks are just what I needed to complete my dorm room. People are blown away by the quality and the unique design is cool to talk about.

Cons: slight hum with the sub, scared me at first but i guess thats what u get for having such powerful bass maybe? it blends into the backround anyways, no prob.

Other Thoughts: -pregame in my rooom babbbyyyyy

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid sound, easy setup, and the bass is good for the price.

Cons: The headphone jack stopped functioning after about 6 months.

Other Thoughts: Solid set up speakers for under $100.

5 out of 5 eggsamazing speakers!

Pros: They sound crips and amazing! I have had these for about 3-4 years now and they still sound just as good from day 1. I listen to everything from rock to electro and everything sounds great with them.

Cons: seperate sound control module, like all the other newer speakers have. Not a huge problem but it would be nice.

Other Thoughts: Still have them and plan on keepin them for a couple years longer.

5 out of 5 eggsAazing small system

Pros: Great clarity, small system is great for people with a small space but want big sound.

Cons: Always has a buzzing noise but this is because the whole system is sitting too close to the power source and some of the cables are unshielded.

Other Thoughts: This still gets 5 eggs because the only con I have is sort of my fault for being so limited on space. I actually only paid 30 bucks for these from a big chain of electronic stores because they were on clearance.
