5 out of 5 eggsVery Impressed

Pros: These. Speakers. Punch.

No really, I'm into techno, dance, and yes (some) dubstep, and these speakers satisfy my need to feel the music. Sometimes I wonder if that's the bass I feel in my chest or my own heart beating. I can't tell.

Cons: The volume controller... It has a snazzy UFO turn disk thing. It would have been nice to function like modern stereo volume knobs where it just keeps turning in one direction without having to center itself - well, that's what this one does. I just want a knob on it so I can see roughly what % it's at. I can't do that with this one. If someone else goes to turn up my speakers, they are very confused, and then they blast it b/c they have no idea what they're doing. Volume should be the most intuitive control of speakers. A Little design oversight here.

Other Thoughts: The con, being kinda big for me, still does not detract an egg because I absolutely love the sound quality.

I had a pair of the old $80 Altec 2.1's (which are still going strong I might add) but I needed another set for my living room.

Don't buy a porche to drive in the slow lane, and don't buy these speakers if you don't intend to actually feel your music.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Speakers

Pros: -The best thing about these speakers is not how loud they get, regardless of how incredibly loud they are, it is the fact that if you turn the sound up too far and the speakers cant handle it, they will automatically shut off to prevent damage to the speakers.
-Modern Design with a seperate volume control attachment

Cons: the cords are kind of short, but thats not a serious issue.

Other Thoughts: They literally shake my house

5 out of 5 eggsHighly recommended.

Pros: I just bought these, and I'm very satisfied so far. I'm upgrading from a 6 year old Logitech 2.1 system, and while that was in roughly the same price range as this set - maybe even more expensive - the difference between the two is staggering. The mid- and high-range frequencies coming out of these speakers are incredible; I can literally hear things that I never heard before. The bass is so smooth, there is no buzz even on the floor next to my SECC steel gaming cube case. Don't turn the bass up full crank, if anyone lives elsewhere in your house or apartment building, etc., you will make them mad or wake them up.

Cons: Came just in the retail box wrapped in plastic. It was a little beat up, but I won't take any eggs off for it, because it's still working just fine.

Other Thoughts: At first the bass seemed a little subtle, then I realized that I had the Windows volume set to 50%. Once I set that to 100%, the bass became much more satisfying, and everything else that much more clear.

5 out of 5 eggsInstant Transformation

Pros: In less than five minutes my “All Business Workhouse Computer” was transformed into a “High End” Entertainment Center! Unbelievable sound quality. My high-end Sony receiver on digital fiber from the same computer doesn’t even come close. With almost 30 yrs in computing, I have never heard such bold sound quality coming from a computer until now – Not at this price point.

Cons: I can see it’s going to be hard to get any work done now – The sound is so good I just want to immerse myself in it and forget about the incoming email. . . Needs more Eggs – Five is not enough!

Other Thoughts: The satellite cables are not that long as others have noted – You may want to get extensions. I just put the sub-woofer behind the desk in between the two and problem solved.

Pros: Love these speakers, I hot swap them between my PS3 and PC, and every thing sounds great, very happy with my purchase so far.

Cons: the unnecessary light show on the volume control pod. wish they were a little cheaper.

5 out of 5 eggsWow, just wow.

Pros: - Amazing sound quality
- Quality build design
- Great pricepoint (performance vs. expenditure)
- Volume/Bass/Treble pod is actually very useful
- Pod has power button AND iPod and headphone jacks on it

Cons: - It was shipped to me in it's retail box. The box had several holes in it and I was glad to see that it even made it to my doorstep. Thankfully everything inside was in working order.

Other Thoughts: In the last few weeks I have purchased and returned Bose Companion 3 Series II and the Klipsch Pro Media 2.1 sets. They each had inferior overall quality when compared to these speakers.

I just can't express how surprised I was by the clarity and amazing sound that comes from these speakers. Yes, the sats are a little large (read: "deep"), but that doesn't bother me. They are an interesting shape and design, but I really like them. After hearing them, I don't really care how they look.

The subwoofer is slightly underwhelming. After listening to my brothers Logitech speakers and having the Pro Media 2.1 set (which both seemed to overpower the other music), this sub seems a little more tame. That doesn't mean that it doesn't rock it, it just does so at a more moderate volume. The bass is very clear, not muddy or muffled. Overall it makes the sound feel very round and doesn't overpower.

4 out of 5 eggsGood in my opinion

Pros: The sound is very nice from these speakers. They get very loud and fill my bedroom nicely. All speakers are relatively large. Larger than average.

Cons: The hissing noise that some people have said is deafening is not nearly as loud for me as they say it is for them, which means they (and potentially you) must consider the possibility that it is something in their set up that is causing the noise. Interference somewhere along the line that is causing the sound (google "ground loop" for more info on the topic). As I said, the hissing for me is barely audible and you don't even hear it when sound is coming out, even low volume sounds. I can't even hear it now over the sound of my computer being on (and I have a relatively quiet machine). It is only after I shut down my machine and forget to turn off the speakers that I hear the noise. Seriously that is the ONLY time I hear it. Altec Lansing claims also that the sound is the result from not having a discreet soundcard. Since a decent card is $30-$50 I'll experiment with that another day when my computer has everything else it could possibly need.

Other Thoughts: The box came completely beat up and brightly colored with the contents of the box proudly displayed on all sides for someone to walk by and steal knowing exactly what they were getting. I never schedule deliveries on days that I or someone else will not be at the house to get it inside immediately, but I will never understand why merchants plaster info like that all over boxes that will sit on someone's doorstep. I wish newegg would wrap them or repacakge them or something; or the manufacturers would create packaging for home delivery separate from retail store (yeah right...I know...).

5 out of 5 eggsMust Have Speakers!!!!

Pros: Love the controller pod, killer bass and striking appearance of the satellites. Great value for the money spent!!!!

Cons: highs on the satellites are on the bright side but with some adjustments I should be able to take care of this, what can you expect for under $200. right?? I also wish they would have given more length to the satellite wires for easier placement.

Other Thoughts: I wish Altec would offer and even higher end 2.1 sound system for computers as I would be there first customer.
