When it comes to awesome performance in a compact design, few speaker systems compare to the VS4121. You have got to hear it to believe it. The tweeters sing with crisp, clear highs, while a unique, down-firing midrange driver in each satellite uniformly disperses sound around the room creating a warmer, more natural ambiance. The long-throw woofer brings out the thumps and bumps that make listening to music, watching movies and playing games truly intense. 5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Comapired to regular spakers, these are great. There is such a difference in the quailty of sound. Even to the point (and yes i tested this) were you can turn them all the way up and still clear as the lower volums. Even really good for whn i plug my headphones into them. Easy to set up and long wires, so i have the sub under my bed and my desk which the speakers are on is next to that. I still have room to move hem around and the bed does not affect the bass at all.

Cons: Living in a dorm... so many complants about them being too loud.

Other Thoughts: Dependsing on your situation, hard to get the bass out of them (i have to use the equalizer in itunes and then turn the bass down on the speakers).

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Good

Pros: Good speakers! Sounds a lot louder than i thought. Great price. If your a gamer these are the speakers you want. Or if you just like to listen to music here is a deep bass.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Saves a lot of space. I have the two speakers on the side of the moniter and bass behind and its perfect.

3 out of 5 eggsGood at First

Pros: Okay, like the person a couple people below me said--they're nice but only for a while. True, I did have them close to three years--but it shouldn't matter. They started flaking out at the connection to the subwoofer.

Cons: Subwoofer connections to the speakers, neighbor compaints when the system was working at full blast. 8-)

Other Thoughts: Sure, you can say 3 years is a long time for a set of speakers--but if you end up paying 50, 60, 70 bucks once every couple years wouldn't it be a better investment to buy a more upscale product that will sound better and last longer?

3 out of 5 eggsHad them a long time

Pros: Ive had these since I built my first computer, atleast 3 years ago now and i finally got around to writing a review. If theres one thing I can say about these things is that they are a solid bet, if you want to keep them for a long time they will keep working for as long as your willing to listen to them.

Cons: Ive had some trouble as of late with the connections to the sub sometimes the bass will stop working and you have to jiggle the connector and it'll fix itself, same with the left speaker. This has taken over 3 years to manifest itself though and Ill contribute it to wear and tear. Its nothing big, but it has its aggravating moments.

Other Thoughts: They work pretty well for the price, plus the bass on this thing might be a little TOO powerful, but thats a personal thing and might be a plus to some.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome speakers, awesome bass

Pros: I've had these speakers for a while now, and they have come in handy after upgrading from a old 2 can system that came with my monitor.

I think what most people don't realize about these speakers is that the tweeters are not as small speakers as they look. The roundish base of both tweeters is a good 3.5" speaker so you aren't losing any treble to the bass.

But, since the sub woofer can push A LOT of air I prefer to turn the treble up a little bit when listening to loud music.

I've had 3 parties with these so far, and people have even complimented them! Dance music sounds especially good on these.

Good price for such a big woofer and nice system.

Cons: Not really a con, but simple inputs on the back leave little for versatile needs.

Can there be such thing as too much bass? Nope.

Other Thoughts: If you want some good entry level speakers, I highly recommend these. Very even sound and the volume feels like it will go up to 11.

5 out of 5 eggsThese speakers rock!

Pros: I have owned a previous model of these speakers for years. I got these for my brother, and he loves them. Excellent bass, crisp and clear highs. Convenient volume, bass, and treble controls.

Cons: Bass may be too strong for some. Proprietary connector for right speaker. My neighbors say they're too loud... not sure if that's a con, though :-)

Other Thoughts: These are great speakers. Altec has always made great speakers, and these are no exception. Highly recommended

4 out of 5 eggsALTEC LANSING VS4121

Pros: Good on games and music.

Cons: Base is too "boomy". It over powers the treble too much.

Other Thoughts: Decent set of speakers but I expected better.
