5 out of 5 eggsStill kickin'

Pros: I bought these before I went to college. It's been 12 years. Enough said.

    Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome speakers

Pros: cheap and good. Nice punchy bass, good mid bass, great highs.

Cons: lacks mid range, can be slightly adjusted with EQ and more volume.

Other Thoughts: I've owned these speakers since 2004. They just broke the other day. I can't believe it's been 11 years, through countless LAN parties, moves, apartments, and general use. I will miss these. We've been through a lot.

5 out of 5 eggsNice speakers

Pros: So good for what they are. Incredible sound.

Cons: I killed them on accident.

Other Thoughts: It's been a few years. Late one night I had just moved into my new place and couldn't sleep, so decided to set up my PC.

I either plugged my vga monitor into the subwoofer port (the port was the same size as the VGA) or plugged something coming from the sub into my VGA port on my video card. Can't remember which, but it blew the sub or the center speaker controls. Man these were awesome while they worked. No other parts were damaged in this late night stupidity session.

5 out of 5 eggsBack in production?

Pros: I bought my set over four years ago and they are still my main gaming speakers. I just don't have any legitimate reason to drop extra money on an upgrade. Sure, if you really want THX or digital inputs or insane volume levels then maybe... but you'll be easily spending 5 or 6 times the money. There isn't a better 5.1 system out there if you're on a budget. The sub is surprisingly powerful. With the system placed in the corner of my basement, I can do a pretty respectable job of filling the space with music when throwing a party. Everybody who hears them are amazed that I paid under a single Ben Franklin for them almost five years ago. Sure, nobody is going to mistake these for a premier home theater rig... but they put out great sound quality for the price. If you are looking for an affordable bedroom/office setup, anything more is almost overkill.

Cons: When pushing the extreme volume limits, the satellites get a little too much of the lower frequencies and distort. Still, at this price point... that is nothing more than a minor nitpick. The rear speaker cables might be a little short depending on room size but it's not terribly hard to rig up extentions.

Other Thoughts: These are analog only, so they will use three minijacks on your sound card. This means you will loose your rear microphone input when connecting these if your soundcard only has standard "blue green pink" minijacks. If your motherboard and case support a front audio connector, then this shouldn't be a big deal. You can just hook the microphone up there. If not, you will lose your microphone connection altogether. Also, make sure your soundcard supports 5.1 sound.

    5 out of 5 eggsaudiophile1

Comments: great speakers for the price. Hu doesn't understand that speakers have sealed cabinets for sound quality. True, they sound louder in ported enclosures but sound quality decreases dramatically. A ported enclosure with a driver of this size would not make a noticable "loudness" difference anyway. Point is- DON'T HACK YOUR NICE SPEAKERS without researching facts!

5 out of 5 eggsFast Shipping, Product

Comments: After having a car with close to 4,500 watts, i wasn't expecting too much performance from a fifty dollar set of speakers. I was astounded. In a dorm room with lots of other music constantly going around these speakers still sound very good even at near full volume. The sub is very well set up with the system, make sure that you play around with the phase volume before you make any decisions about whether you like it or not, after you wait through 12-24 hours of music, videos, whatever to let everything break in. A kid down the hall has the THX 5.1 that going for two hundred more and though it does sound incredible i would never drop the extra money. Especially when in college.
