1 out of 5 eggsDefine Refurbishment

Pros: Good speakers. Electronics are not refurbished and DOA on arrival.

Cons: Wrong DIN cable (S video cable included but does not work with setup). Amp does not turn on. If it indeed were tested it would work. This one was not. Unfortunately got a great deal on the price for something that was reboxed but not tested. Can't return as it is too much money compared to purchase price

Other Thoughts: I would avoid this model and look for something else.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SUB for my needs

Pros: I bought this system for the subwoofer only as I'm mixing a record that has a lot of low, low, low frequencies (did I say low?) and I needed to hear what was happening down there. One downside is the sub is not easily used without the master speaker (the one with the controls on it), so it's got to be connected to one of the satellites at all times unless you want to splice cable. Not a game changer as I am using two of the other sats as B channel speakers for the TV setup in the living room. And the extra speaker is holding papers down on the desk. Anyway, the sub is great for what I'm using it for- very loud, very low, and a small footprint. It's not an HD sub, so you'll hear just about every piece of audio junk that exists below 50 Hz, but that's what I'm going for. You can adjust the frequency with a knob, and the level too. I can literally shake the china in the room upstairs. And it's only about 18" high. Another small plus is the nice looking metal grill cover and EV logo, unlike the satellite speakers which look a little cheesey and have a really ugly SonicXS (I find this name funny considering what I'm hearing) sticker plastered across them. I pulled these off with a knife. The sub is worth the price alone, keep the little ones as extras for when your mains go pop.

Cons: Cables short, cannot separate master speaker from sub, logo stickers way ugly.

Other Thoughts: I hunted high and low for a cheap sub for mixing audio with a $200 budget, got this setup for $50 less the $40 rebate and it works great. I spent the $190 left over on a case of Zinfandel.

5 out of 5 eggsTelex Electro-Voice EV Sonic XS 4.1 5-Piece Powered Hardcore Multimedia Speaker System

Pros: - Price...
- Price...
- Price...
- Clear sound - no hiss that a few people have noted.
- Excellent volume!
- Excellent Bass!
- Look 100% brand new - no flaws from being refurbished that I could see on my speakers.

I use this for my home theater PC system. My wife isn't the biggest fan of surround sound so I have the speakers on both sides of my fireplace under the TV. When we move these will be with my PC and we'll have a proper 7.1 surround sound, but this is excellent for the time being.

Cons: This is built for a PC 4.1 surround sound so this con is very minor. A couple of the cords for my use are a little short, but if you need more length you can order or swing by Radio Shack and get some 3.5mm male to female cables to give you some additional length.

Other Thoughts: This is funny...and sort of related. My wife's birthday was on the 24th and one of the things I got her was an Oontz bluetooth speaker that is about 6 watts and ~2x5 inches. She loved it! These speakers showed up the next day, and my wife threatened to post on Facebook a picture of the speaker I bought her for her birthday next to the speakers I bought for myself. I felt like a deer in the headlights for a moment and then I realized...It's OK. I'll just post that I only paid $39 for the Oontz speaker, the exact same that I paid for these 125w 4.1 speakers after rebate. :0) Wow, can't get over the price of these things. Now I'm wishing I'd bought a couple more pair for Christmas presents to my friends with man caves.

5 out of 5 eggsThey don't make em like they used to

Pros: These speakers sound much better than a my more expensive "THX certified" logitech z-2300 system. The speakers are bookshelf quality.

Cons: As others mentioned, all the cables included are way too short. Of all places the manufacture cut corners on cable length. The sub-woofer distorts when playing music with lots of bass. My Polk Audio PSW10 doesn't do that. The speakers connect with two 3.5mm jacks, so they are only meant for desktop computers and not tv, game consoles, etc.

Other Thoughts: The speakers buzzed when i first turned them on. Adjusting the tone knob removed the buzzing for me. It's hard to come by media that takes advantage of the rear speakers.

5 out of 5 eggsOld tech that sounds GREAT!

Pros: Loud, powerful sound EV Pro Commercial Sound is famous for like the night club Grand Slam in Minneapolis owned by rock star Prince that runs an all EV system. No low volume hiss in mine as stated by another review. System looks new. Almost a giveaway if the rebate comes through. I thought they would be smaller but I am glad there not. There just about bookshelf size.

Cons: The RCA plugs are a complete joke and way too short. I plan to at least upgrade the connectors to push connectors. No problem for me as I have built several speakers throughout my lifetime.

Other Thoughts: I like these a lot but not sure where to put them.

1 out of 5 eggsTelex Electro-Voice EV Sonic XS

Pros: Newegg mailed them Quickly.

Cons: DOA - Dead on arrival, & because I mailed the rebate in right away, I have been told I have to send them back to the manufacturer. I have been too busy to set them up, until about a week after delivery. I had to make room for them, unpack them, & then I have to repack them, and ship them back? Newegg was very little help in this case.

Other Thoughts: Newegg shouldn't be reselling refurbished items, that possibly aren't even refurbished. I had to open a case with paypal for a refund. I was very excited when the speakers arrived, but I knew I couldn't set them up right away. What a disappointment in every way!

5 out of 5 eggsSurprised!

Pros: Price! Got them for $14.99
I just bought these because they were cheap and had good reviews. I did not expect to receive what I actually received. The box is full color! Easy to set up. Came with lots of cable options. The sound is on par with entry level systems if not on high end of entry level. Watched "Mama" and the cats were freaking out from the music and sounds making the house shake. I would buy these even if they were full price and be very happy!

Cons: Maybe a bit too simple. No bass or treble levels just one "tone" knob but it does what it needs to do. Cables are a little short for the rears but hey this is actually a desktop system not a home theater.

Other Thoughts: Great system you will be amazed! I actually brag about the price point to people listening to them.

5 out of 5 eggs90's nostalgia... and rockin the hell outta it!

Pros: °Accurate sound reproduction
°Crisp, clear sound quality
°Flat, warm sound makes it very versatile in reproducing audio of all genre
°Takes well to EQ equipment
°Little distortion, even at very high volume
°Nice control knobs
°Great build quality and materials

Cons: °Hiss when music isn't playing
°Bass is not very tight- it is more ominous and backgrounded, almost as if it was trying to hide than act as an element of the music. Still LOUD and RUMBLY!
°Cords are flimsy, brittle, short and irreplaceable (unless you want to break out the solder gun)
°Hisssssssss.... And loud, too
°"Small" sound at lower levels of volume (about 40% and less)
°No mounts, though that was expected
°This is hiss hella annoying...

Other Thoughts: For many years now, I have been working with high end audio equipment setups, so I know good sound when I hear it.of course, these will never compare to equipment with a price tag with many more zeros following, but these things are great. And for $15, I doubt I will ever find a deal as satisfying as this. As mentioned, the build and sound quality is awesome! However, no deal is too good, and these are no exception, though their flaw is minuté compared to other products. At volumes less than 40% or so, these big speakers produce such small sound! It's difficult to describe unless you hear it for yourself, but it's almost like hopping into a Corvette whose engine was swapped for a 4 cylinder. You get in expecting to blacken some pavement, and are left dumbfounded when it does not. Crank it to 45% or more and that's where you find all the lost power! These spears really shine at high volume, producing sharp, clear highs, melodic mods and earth shaking bass. The last part is awaiting the rebate! I purchased mine on the 29th and submitted the rebate on the 2nd with all the needed paper work, so I guess we will see what happens!

5 out of 5 eggsThe Price Was Right

Pros: They worked, maybe I'm just lucky.

They sound better than ANY computer audio system I've heard short of the $250+ price range.

Even at that price range these things might still take the cake for volume. At half volume these things will make your ears bleed, I'm sure they could easily fill up a living room with sound. A computer room is almost too small for these speakers to stretch their legs.

They are relatively clear with very little hiss as other reviewers have stated. I can't hear the hiss over my computer and when my computer is off I still have to listen for it to notice.

Cons: If I had to pick a con, which is silly for this price, I would have to say it is a bit of a trick between the various dials to get the sound balanced the way I like it. The subwoofer has its own volume dial which to say the least is on the floor, while the mail speaker has a fade dial, on my desk.

Also, there doesn't seem to be any way to mount the speakers to the wall.

Other Thoughts: These speakers really harken back to a set my college roommate had that could quite literally shake the building (Z5500). The sheer volume and potential bass of that set was unbelievable, these are fairly similarly powerful without some of the other frills like the fancy remote. Plus, I believe the Z5500 system is pretty hard to come by, and the newer model (Z906) is a little lackluster.
