Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500 Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for PC

Pros: Very fast, double-sided scans. Simple to operate. Plethora of features in the included software such as ability to create searchable PDFs.

Cons: Not designed for a corporate networked environment (although we've done a little hackery and used it in such an environment). Not a TWAIN compatible scanner, but a lot of what this scanner is good at is because of how it's included software processes the documents.

Other Thoughts: Even though you can't scan directly to a network drive, we've got around that limitation by creating local symlinks to network drives that the scanner will then happily scan to.

Pros: Fast, compact, reliable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: At first I didn't understand why a scanner should cost so much, or how it could be worth so much. But the Neat scanner commercials on tv caught my interest, and my research pointed to this model. After about a year I can say that this was the best investment for my office, period. I use this scan almost everything to Evernote and it does so perfectly.

Pros: Very fast scans, even when on higher quality. Duplex scanner works great, removes blank pages, easy to use.

Cons: Each user has to setup the scan settings for themselve, makes it more difficult in office setting where multiple people use the same machine.

Other Thoughts: We have bought a few dozen of these over the last several years. They have worked flawlessly for the most part.

Pros: Can't say enough how impressed I am. Every positive review I read has been true of my experience. Like the reviews say: "just get it".

I'm using it primarily on my Ubuntu 12.10 desktop. I just plugged it is and scan2pdf scanning software picked it right up. I can duplex scan and everything just as I could with Adobe Standard. I am saving the included software for another Windows machine.

Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Love this scanner! Excellent scans, fast scans, easy to use.

Pros: The scanner is fast an accurate, and for the most part the software works as advertised. The hardware is sound.

Cons: The ScanSnap Manager software isn't fully compatible with network drives.

ScanSnap Manager is the application which orchestrates scanning and directs the output to different programs for processing. When output is directed to "Save as File" on a network (mapped) drive, after successfully saving the file, an "Access is denied" error is thrown on the screen. Afterwards the scan software is non-responsive for several minutes, holding up additional scanning.

Fujitsu support stated that "you will get that error when scanning to a network drive". Essentially, Fujitsu is saying that scanning to a network drive with the ScanSnap software is not supported, despite being mentioned in several places in the manuals that came with the scanner.

A comment found on another website (named after the large river in South America) for this product mentions this issue, but so far that's the only place I have found where the flaw is mentioned (much less discussed). The comment talks about problems with saving to network drive which are marked as "Make available offline", although, in my case that does not apply.

Other Thoughts: Every product will have issues, but how companies respond to those issues define overall feel for the product. While good overall, my ScanSnap experience has been marred by what I feel to be a failure on the part of the ScanSnap software and Fujitsi support.

Pros: Seems like a great scanner, however it has NO TWAIN OR WIA DRIVER. That is very limiting and disappointing.

Cons: NO TWAIN OR WIA DRIVER

Pros: I have purchased 74 of these units (at least 50 from Newegg). They are extensively used within my medical billing and coding company (Autimis) and I have yet to have a single die or even remotely malfunction. These come with the current full version of Adobe Standard, remove blank pages, can scan directly into Sharepoint, install within minutes, and literally require no end user training. Press the button...it scans.

You can put 100's of pages through them at once although anymore than around 40 and it gets tricky (basically load the next set when there is about 5 pages left to scan...and repeat)

These are compact and I would say even portable. I fly with mine occasionally and can even fit it in my carry-on fairly easily.

The quality of scan is outstanding. One important note on this pertaining to e-fax solutions. If you use an e-fax solution that converts to a .tif format before sending you may encounter issues where gray scale colors are converted directly to black or faxes look pixelated. This is easily fixed by setting the scansnap to black/white mode.

Overall and incredible product, well built, sexy design, bravo Fujitsu you have earned every penny of my almost $30k and I'm sure will earn more.

Cons: I literally have no cons for this product (a rarity) but I will speak to a con some others have posted. This does NOT support twain...interesting how the product description states this. If you need a twain scanner look for the "FI" series of Fujitsu scanners as they support twain.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure if Newegg will allow a second review but I've purchased over 50 of them so technically I should be able to review 50 times :). Newegg can you post 50 (or however many I've purchased) ratings for me?

Pros: Decent quality scans. Fast scanning. Scanning software does a great job at detecting page sizes and cropping without losing anything; it's actually better at this than the more expensive Fujitsu scanner I tried.

Cons: LIGHT scans with low contrast, and no ability to adjust this on color or gray-scale images/PDFs.

Lack of brightness and contrast controls for color and gray-scale scans.

Image bleed-through from the back side of the page on paper thinner than 20 pound weight.

Other Thoughts: Perfect scanner if you want a simple to-use, but somewhat customizable scanning solution. No TWAIN (or ISIS) support isn't a problem if you can live with the included software. Most options you would want are included in the software, the notable exception being brightness and contrast controls. The lack of these controls can be a problem if scanning thinner paper, especially if it's printed on both sides. If you are going to convert to black-and-white (not gray-scale) this is adjustable and shouldn't be a problem. But, if you want to preserve all the information in a document (including color and gradations) you'll have trouble on with double-sided pages which are printed on anything less than 20 pound weight paper...unless you can live with a little image-bleed-through.

Pros: Small footprint, two sided color scanning, relatively fast at what it does. If you are serious about digitizing your home files this is what you need. I now have thousands of pictures in digital format which can be shared with family and friends. You just have to make sure you have multiple back ups of your digital files in the event of hard drive failure.

Cons: None really that I've found. It isn't twain compliant but that is not a real big issue to me. The Scansnap filing system works just fine in my purpose.

Other Thoughts: I certainly recommend this product if you are serious about getting rid of your file cabinet drawers. The only documents I've kept in paper form are the last ten years of tax returns. Otherwise, everything else is now digital. Yes this scanner is expensive but it is worth every penny for what it does in the home or small business.
