Cut your desktop clutter with the touch of a button. The Xerox DocuMate 272 quickly turns a stack of papers into digital documents that can be filed, searched, e-mailed, and more. A hi-speed USB 2.0, duplex color scanner, it can handle everything from business cards and checks to legal-sized and other long documents. There's also an integrated card scanner that handles embossed insurance and ID cards making it perfect choice for healthcare facilities. And it takes up no more space than your average desktop printer.
The DocuMate 272 scans up to 33 pages per minute in duplex mode at 200dpi resolution in B&W, includes a 50-page automatic document feeder and can achieve image scans at up to 600dpi resolution and 48-bit color depth, so you get sharp images without loss of fine details. Dual scan heads scan both sides of a page simultaneously, creating up to 66 images per minute. The scanner incorporates Visoneer's OneTouch technology for eliminating multiple steps in sending scanned documents to predetermined applications or devices.
The scanner offers a professional software bundle that includes Kofax VirtualReScan that provides such capabilities as autoexposure and wide angle de-skew. VRS also helps improve the accuracy of recognition software, thereby reducing the need for manual correction of intelligent character recognition and OCR results. It also ships with advanced ISIS and TWAIN drivers allowing the 272 to communicate with advanced electronic content management (ECM) software applications. This incredibly versatile scanner is a great addition for your home or office.
Pros: We have used this scanner to scan everything from small business cards, large card stock, normal paper and photos. Both 1 sided and 2 sided have been great. It is fast in black and white mode. comes with pretty good software that can read typed writing fine. Can't read strange fonts but most can't. Have probably scanned well over 20,000 items with this machine and would recommend it for most work environments.
Cons: Feeder is biggest issue - We really had to work with the thicker card stock to make it go through. Also it just can't deal with more than about 30 pages in the hopper. The software is kind of strange to use until you figure out why sometimes it puts the files into a different folder than the one your working in or perhaps makes them into a different file type. Once you get things set though it really goes fast. We found that after scanning about 1000 items in a row it needed time to cool down for a bit as the rollers stopped working as well. Truthfully we needed to cool down too at that point.
Other Thoughts: The price seems kind of high but this is a good machine compared to the typical MFP it'll whoop them. The software needs updating to be compliant with modern machines. Xerox did post Vista x64 compliant software drivers on it's website. Don't know if they work with Win7 though.

Pros: Very fast scanner. It moves the sheets thru rapidly, 1 sided or 2 sided scans doesn't seem to matter. Seems that the sheet feeder path being almost straight helps. Had another scanner before this, and the paper curving almost 180 degrees had jams and when it did, removing the paper was so difficult in that you had to open the flatbed and remove the often torn paper. This Xerox scanner you just open the paper cover and any jam would be right there. The card scanner is cool too, and haven't had much chance to use it. The one touch features to scan 1 sided or 2 sided is just too cool. This is the best scanner I have ever had the pleasure of using. I've learned that the $300 models that I have used many of, do not compare to this one. Now I know that price makes a difference.
Cons: Not many, but I'm sure I may find some if I look hard enough. Only had this for a week now.
Other Thoughts: Very powerful scanner, for documents only. I'm not sure if this is a good photo scanner. I also bought a Canon thin flatbed for photos.

Pros: The software package is good. At least it eliminated the need for buying Adobe Acrobat which saved us a few bucks. The scanning quailty is good and as fast as they claim. After owning it a month I feel like i have a pretty good understanding of how it works. The OCR I didn't really like, but on the other hand i don't have anything to compare it to. It seemed like it couldn't always tell the differnce between graphics and text. So far i am happy we went with this one. The one touch scan is nice
Cons: The second install CD was missing from the package which the company used overnight mail to send to me. It still took a couple of days.
Other Thoughts: I researched a lot of scanners and reviews are hard to come by. I was looking for one that we could use to convert office files paperless. I finally went with this one.
