Pros: The main benefit of this scanner is that it can (ostensibly) talk directly to your PC or document server via the network, which frees the user from the rigmarole of installing and troubleshooting drivers.
- scanning quality is fine
- scanning speed is good
- PC doesn't have to be on in order to scan

Cons: The SMB / CIFS upload feature seems to be inoperative. I get an error "Confict with Device Name detected. Please change device name." I spoke to tech support about it. They had me update the firmware but that did not fix the problem. The tech offered to swap out the scanner. Luckily my document server is a Linux-based NAS unit, so I am able to accomplish uploads via the HTTP protocol, which is working properly. So essentially I am able to use the scanner as I need to. I'm going to wait until the warranty is almost over, then raise the issue again to see if I can score a new scanner.
- The built in touch screen is cumbersome when inputting long text strings, e.g. email addresses or server names, but this information can be input using the web interface. The touch screen is OK for setting up routine scan jobs.

Other Thoughts: HTTP, FTP, and SMTP uploads work fine.

Since I don't have an analog phone line I am not able to test the fax function. I don't have a printer hooked up to the scanner so I am unable to test the copy function.

My satisfaction with this unit will depend on its longevity. I'm expecting it to last at least 7-8 years, so I can't comment on whether it was a good value or not.

Overall I can do what I need to do, so I'm generally happy with the purchase.
