The Xerox DocuMate 3125 is an A4 desktop document scanner with speeds of 25 ppm and 44 ipm (images per minute, duplex) in black and white, grayscale and color at 200 or 300 dpi. Durability tests support a daily duty cycle of 3,000 pages. The scanner uses a CIS (contact image sensor) and an LED light source for efficient power consumption. The unit offers a 50-sheet (based on 20 lb, 75-80 g/m2 paper) document feeder for document widths up to 8.5” (216 mm). Long capability is supported up 38” (965 mm). The DocuMate 3125 has ultrasonic double feed detection so that stapled or other misfed documents can be sensed before they are crumpled, destroyed or cause a jam.

1 out of 5 eggsChoose a different scanner

Pros: Price was good if it performed properly, twain driver, speed

Cons: Everything else, driver disk damaged, constant jams, one touch and xerox software not good

Other Thoughts: Switched from a Fujitsu fi-4120C scanner because fujitsi would not update drivers from xp to win 7. Very sad because scanner was very good. Xerox arrived, looked great and had small footprint. Driver CD was damaged and would not load, bummer. Found drivers online at Xerox website, downloaded and installed. Software not intuitive and quite frankly not very good. Took a long time to setup, uninstalled and reinstalled until I got the desired settings. The scanner had no problem quickly scanning one page front and back but multiple pages causes it to miss pages or scan almost every time.
Unfortunately, Xerox does not repair their scanners and refers you to third party maintenance companies. It's cheaper to buy a new scanner than to fix. My xerox is going into the garbage.

2 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money...

Pros: Small, Compact. Decent software.

Cons: This thing constantly misfeeds papers to be scanned. I've been trying to use it for over a year and am constantly frustrated with the double feeds or worse with this unit. Many times, I will have to practically feed it one page at a time. Thought that Xerox would produce a better product than this - especially for the high cost. Have been very disappointed with this document scanner and would not recommend it to anyone.

5 out of 5 eggsMuch better than my All in One!

Pros: Bought this at a great price through New Egg. This scanner was simple to set-up and it does what it says it will do. I previously owned an all-in-one and if you have owned one you understand what a hassle it can be to have to worry about catering to the printer 'feature' on the device when all you want to do is scan. Much simpler to have a separate toner printer and not worry about keeping up with replacing the ink if it runs dry due to lack of use (The all-in-one I owned wouldn't scan if there was any missing ink, very frustrating!).

Cons: So far, so good.

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy

Pros: It is compact. Newegg is good!

Cons: This scanner jams quite often, not good. Also, the last and final time it jammed for me I opened it up and the front door broke off. I tried to get Newegg to replace it and they said it would be Xerox that will replace it under the one year warranty. Wrong, Xerox would not replace it either. Xerox was also very rude about it when this all happened. I have had the scanner for less than 6 months. I would NEVER buy a Xerox scanner again, they do not stand behind their product and quite honestly could care less. Newegg was good to us but there wasn't much they could do.

2 out of 5 eggsNeeded repair after 4 months

Pros: Fast scanning when it works.

Cons: Scanner needed to be sent back after 4 months of ownership and fairly low usage. Scanner jams often requiring pages to be re-scanned. Manufacturer should stand behind there product and pay for returns of defective products. Software not the best.

Other Thoughts: Scanner worked fine for four months then started creating a rectangular box on the scanned documents. The box appeared to me to be settings related but support feels it is the scanner lamp. Scanner is still under warranty so it will be fixed/replaced for free but I had to pay to ship it to the company. I don't feel that I should have to pay to ship a defective item back to the manufacturer for warranty repair and would not recommend the product based on that.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: One of three Documate scanners we have in the office. The ability to configure custom scan modes (e.g. PDF, TIFF, JPG, etc), combined with the push button access of these configurations on the scanner, make this a great productivity tool for the office. The oldest unit, DM252 is several years old, and still works, although the one scan side is now failing.

Cons: One scan side is failing leaving a dark streak on the back page when duplex scanning.

1 out of 5 eggsWorst experience ever.

Pros: Small footprint. Easy to pick up and smash into the ground if you get frustrated with it.

Cons: By far the worst scanner I've ever used. I want to note that this could have been a defective item but I wasn't about to risk getting another one and having the same issues. The software utilities leave a very bad after effect on your computer even after uninstall. Followed directions, and tried scanning. I couldve honestly drew better free handed compared to what this thing did. I tried adjusting every setting with no true change to output quality. Called customer support only to talk to a guy that I believe doesnt work at Xerox customer support and just happened to walk into their office and pick up the phone when I called because he was clueless. Felt like I wasted my time with this company. Purchased it because I thought there was actually quality behind the Xerox name and I was mistaken.

Other Thoughts: First let me say that this product was ordered through my company and I had no say in where they ordered it from so they got it from C-D-W. I would've told them to get it from Newegg. Newegg is awesome and I order most of my items from them. I went ahead and rolled the dice and purchased a Brother ImageCenter AD-2000 and LOVE IT!!! Install driver, plug in scanner, put document in, push one button and it actually scans perfectly! Just placed a review for it if you want to know more.

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Fast, small

Cons: This device didn't work correctly from day 1. It is a pain to get it to feed the papers through correctly without jamming or pulling multiple papers at once.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Scanner

Pros: Fast scanner, pretty reliable feed - the only jam (so far) was trying to batch feed 20 sheets of paper that had originally been folded in quarters. They fed fine as single sheets. Otherwise - I've batch fed 50 sheets with ragged edges from being in files for years with no problems.

Cons: Software - PaperPort would scan three sheets then report that it had lost communication with the scanner. And I would frequently get a PaperPort Not Responding message from Windows 7. The software is SE (Special Edition) and Nuance provides zero support for it. Don't waste your time installing it. I bought another OCR/PDF package and it hasn't lost communication with the scanner and will OCR 20 sides in the time it took PaperPort to do 6 sides.

Other Thoughts: Probably should just go to the Xerox web site and start with the latest drivers, Actuity, and OneTouch software instead of using the disk. Start the driver install BEFORE connecting the scanner.

5 out of 5 eggsInitial Impressions

Pros: I just got this and took a chance on it with there being no reviews so I wanted to get my initial impressions. Once I've had this for a month or two and had a chance to put it through it's paces (including use in Ubuntu) I'll post an updated review.

Fast! Great Image quality on documents compared to scanners I've used before. Very small foot print. Easy to customize the one touch scanning from what to put the output in to what program you want to send the output to (from options on disk such as paper port). The one touch scanning configuration has fast and easy access from the system tray.

Installed on Windows 7 Pro x64 without issues.

The following Software was installed from disc (with versions)
Kofax VirtualReScan 4.5
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable (both x86 and x64)
MSXML 4.0 SP3 Parser
Nuance OmniPage 17
Nuance Paperport 12
OneTouch 4 ScanSoft OmniPage 16.2 OCR Module
One Touch 4.6
Sentinel Protection Installer 7.4.0
Xerox DocuMate 3125 Driver

Cons: Most of the software installs don't give you a choice of drive to install to! Really? Those of us with SSDs don't want your software on our C drive.

All of the installs don't let you chose the folder to create in your start programs. A serious pet peeve of mine.

USB cable could be longer but it's not short. I just have it on another desk and the 3ft USB extension cable I used on it cause no problems at all.

So far I have no cons that deal with the device or functionality itself. The software is not Xerox's fault as they didn't make most of it so not deducting an egg there.

Pro: (ran out os space above)
Just noticed that if you don't turn off the scanner after you are done it goes into a sleep mode after a while and the power button light starts to blink. Wasn't expecting that.

Other Thoughts: I just geeked out in a home office sort of way. I was looking at this one and the Fujitsu Snap Scan S1500 which had a lot of good reviews. I choose this one for the faster scanning speed and Twain/ISIS support (which the Fujitsu does not support). The verdict? I'm in love! (My girlfriend was bound to lose to technology)

I just got done scanning 17 stacked pages of flimsy crinkled paper that my lawn service invoices get delivered on. I scanned them multiple times trying out B&W and Grayscale and Simplex vs Duplex. Each time the 17 pages scanned in 44 seconds!!!!! To give you a comparison my all in one HP Photosmart C7280 would have taken about 9 minutes or more.

The image quality is amazing and the B&W scans are so good of quality with extremely small file size (408 KB for 17 pages). Just from initial use I defintely recommend this scanner. I may re-scan old documents again just to use the scanner more and due to the file size savings I'll get with the B&W mode.
