4 out of 5 eggsUPDATE

Pros: Had it for 7 mouths.
STILL never dropped a connection!
I use it with my ACER 5420 (vista 32bit sp2),
because it works better than the
internal wireless card.

Cons: The vile piece of code they call "utility sotfware"
Do not install this software(pure evil).
Just install the drivers(Realtek).
Only 150 mbps

Other Thoughts: other than the "software", I've had no problems.
even found linux drivers.
A good unit for older computers with PC card slots.

1 out of 5 eggsStay Away

Pros: Only "pro" I can give this product is Newegg's customer service. I bought this to take on vacation since my laptop's wireless antennae is messed up. It arrived and between me and calling Trendnet we both determined it to be faulty. At that point I had 3 days before I left for vacation and I told Newegg CS to do anything they could to help me out...and they did. They did an advanced RMA and overnighted me a new one that arrived on Friday the very next day. Bad thing was...new one was faulty also. Both were tested in 3 different machines and none of them even acknowledged them being installed.

Cons: Might have been my bad luck to get 2 bad devices or maybe just a bad batch of product.

Other Thoughts: I am sending the replacement back monday and recieving a refund and will select a different brand. I would think twice before purchasing this product.

4 out of 5 eggsIt Works

Pros: I am 30-40 feet from my router(wireless G), the other
side of my house, and I usually get 24-48 Mbps.
Good range and faster than my old card(wireless B).
Has NEVER lost signal. (not even once!)

Cons: Case is larger than it needs to be. The last 1/4 in of the case is empty space!
Did not work with ubuntu 9 (linux).
You HAVE to use their software to get it to work.
IT automatically connects, but there is NO disconnect.
If it's IN, then it's ON. I hate when there is no stop/off/disconnect !

Other Thoughts: I bought this as an easy/cheap way to have wireless for
an old(2003) laptop(a Gateway 400SD4 running windows XP SP3)
in my garage.
It works very well for my needs.
Will see what kind of speeds I can get
when I upgrade to a wireless N router.

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work as advertised

Pros: Nice packaging.

Cons: Does not work as advertised. I purchased this along with a TrendNet 639GR router and a TEG-S5g switch. All are faulty.

In the case of this card, it won't connect to the router at 300Mbps. I live in a remote location the West, there are NO other competing networks interfering with the signal, and there are no other 2.4GHz devices in the house to interfere. And yet this brand new card and it's matching router can't connect at 300Mbps. They will initially, and then immediately fall back to 150Mbps.

Sorry, but this is the next best thing to an RF test chamber. If they don't work here, they don't work. And they don't work.

5 out of 5 eggsPreferred over the linksys 2.4 Ghz N adapter

Pros: works and GUI much easier than the Linksys adapter; using it to write this, now, have them on identical T60 Thinkpads although this one has 3GB of RAM, and its much smoother in operation and GUI works great.

Cons: More expensive than the Linksys; though it works much better (GUI).

Other Thoughts: Using it with the Trendnet Wireless router, too.

3 out of 5 eggsTEW-641PC

Pros: Installed on both laptops without any problems and found the TRENDnet TEW-633GR router I bought at the same time. Router is in the basement about 25 feet and one floor and 3 walls away. Signal strength shows 100%.

Cons: I am only getting 52Mbps kind of disappointing, and this is consistent no matter where I am in the house. I was expecting quite a bit more. If the laptops are running all day the signal drops 2-3 times a day. I don't know if the cards are getting hot or what, they don't feel hot.

Other Thoughts: Maybe with a new firmware update the signal drops will stop, and maybe Mbps will increase. The card is fairly good, so I would recommend it due to ease of setup. Chipsets are common so maybe another make would net better results. If Trendnet would use the Atheros chipset then those using linux would be able to use it.
