1 out of 5 eggsGeneric re-branded caca.

Pros: When it works, i works as expected.

Cons: I used this device about 3 times before it stopped working on my Macbook Pro 17". Tested on multiple Macbook Pros and eSata hard drives at the Mac store, but it doesn't even light up anymore.

Other Thoughts: I don't believe Rosewill manufactures anything, they just put their stickers on cheap generic products and re-sell them. Spend a little extra $ (and save yourself time and headaches) by getting a brand that isn't a re-branded generic product. I'll try SoNNet next since I believe they actually manufacture their own devices.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat Paperweight!!!

Pros: The Price, (but when you think about it, I could get a paperweight cheaper than this)

Cons: 99% of the time, it will just lock up the computer, it did this with both of my laptops (an hp dv9000 and an hp mini [the only hp mini with an expresscard port])

5 out of 5 eggsjust works, but comes out easily

Pros: Plug into the computer (Lenovo laptop, Fedora Linux 15), immediately recognized and usable. Running 2x2TB drives on it without any issue.

Cons: It comes out easily. Don't know if all express cards do that, but while adding and removing eSATA cables I've unplugged this express card by mistake.

Other Thoughts: Supposedly the Sil3132 chip also supports SATA port multipliers, I have not tried that.

2 out of 5 eggsMixed Results

Pros: Works fine in HP dv7 notebook. In machines where it works it seems to work OK.

Cons: Doesn't work at all in Dell Precision M4600 notebook.

Other Thoughts: Not sure what to make of the non-functionality in the Dell. Other ExpressCard devices work fine so I know the slot is OK. Have tried Win7 and XP but no dice for either on the Dell M4600.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Interface... When you can find a driver

Pros: -Works flawlessly every time it's plugged in
-Able to connect 2 or more HDD's at once
-SIIG chipset so drivers are USUALLY updated... but good luck finding them
-Solid construction and hasn't fallen apart after two years
-Support for OSX and Windows

Cons: -Can't find the latest drivers for OSX when you need them
-Sticker on the unit started peeling off after first few weeks removing name and model number for identifying when searching for drivers
-If I were a first-timer or newbie to the techie community, I could see how getting this unit going would be an issue.

Other Thoughts: It's a great unit and works well with OSX and Windows. I use this for audio recording applications and haven't had any issues yet.

Apart from the lack of promptness from Rosewill to release drivers under their name and the shoddy sticker situation, I would buy it again.

Note to others with this unit: SIIG is the chipset manufacturer. So if you need drivers, SIIG is the way to go, NOT Rosewill. SilliconImage*.*com is the way to go when searching for the latest OSX Lion drivers. Or like the guy below said, Google "SiI 3132 Mac OS X 10.6.x BASE (non-RAID)". <-- Thanks kavazan!

2 out of 5 eggscheap but i prefer startech

Pros: - cheap
- 2 eSATA ports

Cons: - no physical stabilizer included with the card - it's too easy to accidentally move it sideways in the wide ExpressCard slot (especially that my laptop has its optical drive located directly under it) and disconnect your external hard drive(s), causing data loss

how expensive is it to add a piece of plastic with a small metal part to this product?

- problems with being recognizing in Windows 7 64-bit and Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit - even installing drivers from manufacturer's Website did not help - device remains unrecognized.

- it worked last year, it doesn't this year with the same laptop - no physical or electrostatic damage done to it, as far as i am concerned.

Other Thoughts: i recently bought Startech eSATA card, slightly more expensive, but has a plastic stabilizer for the wide ExpressCard slot), is recognized by the OS easily, works fine.

i gave away this card as it no longer seemed worth the effort of trying to get it to work.

i still have an older Rosewill RC-604 PCMCIA card with 2 eSata ports which i use with another laptop (Windows XP), and this one is recognized and works fine.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks with OS X 10.7 (Lion)

Pros: I was utterly disappointed that this stopped working when I upgraded my MacBook Pro to OS X 10.7 (Lion). After contacting Rosewill about upgraded drivers, they pointed me to drivers from the Silicon Image site. I was a bit dubious, but sure enough, it worked like a charm.

Cons: None, anymore.

Other Thoughts: I tried posting the link that Rosewill customer support sent me so that other people could download working drivers for OS X 10.7, but the review got rejected for containing a link. My best advice is to google the following: "SiI 3132 Mac OS X 10.6.x BASE (non-RAID)" and go to the first link listed. From there, download the second driver listed (which should match the name you googled). It's 207kb and version 1.2.5.0. Hope this helps Mac users who have upgraded to Lion.

5 out of 5 eggsThis now works with OSX 10.7 LION

Pros: I had written a previous review lamenting the fact that this was no longer useable after my upgrade to OSX 10.7 Lion. I emailed Rosewill, and they advised me to download drivers from Silicon Image (even though they are for 10.6). I did so skeptically, but sure enough, it worked like a charm and I can use this device again under OSX Lion.

Cons: None anymore...

Other Thoughts: The drivers that Rosewill customer service pointed me to are located at: http://www.siliconimage.com/support/searchresults.aspx?pid=32&cat=3

Download the drivers for the second entry on the page: "* SiI 3132 Mac OS X 10.6.x BASE (non-RAID)"
