5 out of 5 eggsExcellent UPS

Pros: Reliable performance
Long life
Relatively easy battery replacement

Cons: Expensive
Replacement batteries expensive

Other Thoughts: While both the base unit and consumables for this UPS can be a bit pricey, the performance matches the expense. This has run for 5+ years for me under a varying load between 500W and 1000W while using crummy municipal power. The cutover to battery gets tested pretty much daily on this thing with no ill effects to the downstream hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsThe best

Pros: Excellent price/value

Cons: Batteries do swell and get tight

Other Thoughts: To the other users that have trouble removing the batteries
First when you pop the cover off, flip it up on top so it is out of the way
If the batteries are too tight to pull out with the plastic strip, turn off all your equipment, unplug the unit, then you should be able to get in there and dig with something without hopefully electrocuting yourself.
If you still cannot get them out, take the unit apart and remove the top battery guide rails, then you will never have a problem again

3 out of 5 eggsGood UPS, bad battery changing

Pros: I've had two of these -- the first since June 2007, the second since late 2008. They've performed well.

Cons: Changing battery is *sometimes* difficult for one person (no way to secure the unit while pulling old battery out), and easy to break the unit (as I did this morning). Couldn't get the new battery all the way in and, with 2 of us pushing and twisting to try, the front panel (which cannot detach from the ribbon and has to hand flimsily to the side) finally tore away from its ribbon cable. Unit is broken and garbage now, though expensive repair *might* be an option, but likely cost prohibitive.

Other Thoughts: APC should: (1) make the battery easier to slide in/out (perhaps on a tray); and (2) make the front panel detachable from the ribbon to keep it safe while doing the battery change.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice Machine

Pros: This is a very nice UPS system. It give good back-up time. I have my main PC with 22 inch monitor hooked up and it barely draws a load. APC offers also a nice software bundle that can either shut your computer down automatically when the power goes out, or to keep it running until the UPS reaches about 10% or so and then shut-down the computer.

Cons: The Software has a little bit of a learning curve to it, but not too bad. Replacement Batteries can get a little expensive.

Other Thoughts: I would recommend APC products to anyone. They are a good company that almost always makes a good product
