5 out of 5 eggsVery Happy

Pros: Bought this UPS in Jan 2011.... and was using it til this last weekend. It was sooo easy to set up and use. Basically just plug everything in and the first time my power went out it properly shut down my PC in a couple of minutes. A storm hit over this weekend and Monday when I turned the UPS back on it was making a constant beeping sound. A google search helped me debug the issue pretty quickly and a quick call to the 800 number on the back confirmed what the issue was. I am so happy APC was super helpful and followed through with the 2 year manufacture's warranty... they are sending me a replacement battery free of charge :D

Cons: none.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat Else Is There To Say? APC ROCKS!

Pros: Great UPS from APC! I love the spacing on the two ending outlets on each side to allow room for those "monster" power bricks (which need to be banned from this earth! Who's with me?). My desktop is currently AWL as I'm waiting to get a new power supply here from Newegg so I cannot fully test out the battery life, but I've haven't had a problem with the battery yet. Has surge protection for cable and phone line/Ethernet connections which is really of no use to me, but is a nice touch. Ubuntu on my laptop automatically picked up the UPS through the included data cable without the software and let me know the current charge and other info.

I always recommend APC to my computer business clients. Their products are always high quality and I will not buy another surge protector or UPS from anyone but them! $85 to protect over $800 worth of equipment is a very worthwhile investment!

Cons: None...how can there be any?

Other Thoughts: I've been with APC ever since we've gotten our first computer back in '01, and I can say their quality beats out all other competition! I've had ZERO problems with their surge protectors, and I've finally got myself a UPS. I actually didn't buy it from here, but instead got it brand new from a private seller on my local Craigslist. Hey, $25 for a brand new, sealed UPS? I think YES!

5 out of 5 eggsups

Pros: Simple setup. Decent software.

Cons: battery doesn't last as long as I would like but that comes with the price.

Other Thoughts: I made this purchase to replace a previous APC who's battery had finally bit the dust and I couldn't find a replacement. This UPS does as it is intended. It's kept my NAS, router, lcd, and main system up and alive during the recent storms we've had.

5 out of 5 eggsAPC delivers as advertised

Pros: To be brief:

- Tested the unit against my tower, monitor and internet router - was able to keep them up five minutes and apparently had time to spare.
- Monitoring tools are simple, and easy to reference if any issues with the unit.
- Battery charged again quickly
- Has already detected lots non-clean power outlets and was able to talk to the energy company about this and have had an electrician come out and 'clean up' the apartment for free... bonus for the unit!

All in all, I'm satisfied.

Cons: None yet. Will update, but I doubt I'll have any issues...

Other Thoughts: I live in thunderstorm territory, power flickers are common place, this gives me some piece of mind for my tower and hardware.

5 out of 5 eggsBack-UP POWER

Pros: Best back-up power that we have ever had. Not a lot of use for them at our main office due to the generator that powers our offices. But they do keep us up and running when the power does drop out. The other office space that we have does not have back up power so when the power goes out they do last long enough for us to save our work and keep things going on a short term.

Cons: We replace the batteries every 5 years weather they are good or not. Safety first. Guess its not really a CON. They only cost about $20.00

5 out of 5 eggsNice Little Units

Pros: Fanless design, completely silent! Uses a single 12V 9Ah battery that is easily replaceable. Four outlets are on the battery backup, and another four are for surge protection only. It has surge protection for phone/Ethernet, and coax cable too! APC includes a variety of cables and their powerchute software to install on your PC. I've purchased four of these about three years ago and they have been solid.

Cons: Wish there were more outlets. With so many "small" devices that use those big clumsy wall-wort power supplies, it would be nice to plug them all in on the battery backup side so I can keep my internet and router up when the power flashes.

Other Thoughts: I had one of these suddenly show a bad battery. Upon removing the battery I discovered that somehow it was cracked open! The UPS itself was not damaged when I purchased it, so I can only assume it was a defect in the battery. Easiest and cheapest place to get 12V 9Ah batteries is at hunting / sports superstores (i.e. Gander Mountain, Academy, Cabelas, Tractor Supply, etc...) These batteries are the same that are used in deer feeders and other items so they always have good fresh stocks of batteries for ~$25.

5 out of 5 eggsBest UPS I've owned

Pros: This is a great UPS. Has 8 outlets which is more than enough for my purposes. Best thing about it though is that it actually has a REMOVABLE battery. You have no idea how great that is because other UPS drives you have to send the entire thing in if the battery starts to wear out, and any battery over time will begin to wear.

I have another UPS, different brand, that I bought from Best Buy and now it's just a regular power strip because the battery is dead. Not even worth sending the entire thing in to be fixed. With this UPS, you can just buy a new battery from the manufacturer (or maybe elsewhere) if you ever needed a new one.

I've had it for a few months now, and no problems whatsoever so far. Tested it by unplugging from the wall and it held its charge.

Cons: Half of the 8 outlets are surge protection only, but really, how many things are you going to be plugging in that will need battery backup? Tower and monitor are the only important things, maybe printer if you needed to print something out. If you want to hook up multiple computers I suppose then you might have a bit of trouble, but most UPS I've seen worked the same way with only some outlets being battery back up. So I don't really consider this an issue.

Other Thoughts: I think one of the most important things in a UPS aside from retaining charge is the ability to replace the battery itself instead of sending in the entire unit. I'll never buy another UPS that doesn't have a removable battery.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

Pros: Gives me 5 min of backup on a 650 watt power supply, i7 with a nvidia 560 ti gfx card and 4+ hdds.
Dallas has had a lot of thunderstorms lately and this has gone to battery back up a few times, even when it just detected "dirty electricity." Not even sure what that means but impressed.

Cons: I thought all the plugs were battery backup. Only half are. The other half is still surge protector. Make sure you read product details better than I.

Other Thoughts: I definitely want to tool time this to get more battery life.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Solid construction, easy installation

Cons: Industrial design warrants that this item be installed out of sight.

Other Thoughts: I've had good experiences with APC equipment going back 20+ years. I don't anticipate this to be any different.

5 out of 5 eggsOne of the Best UPS Products for Home/ Small Business Office Computers

Pros: Overall, I am impressed with the performance of the APC BE650G during a full power outage and restoration after shutdown. I am also impressed with the ease of the PowerChute software installation in both Vista and Win 7. I liked the fact that PowerChute provides different types of shutdown modes, the ability to configure audible alarms (i.e., no audible alarms during the night), and the ability to set voltage levels for power conditioning to kick-in. APC included all accessory items and thorough instructions to help me completely install each UPS in about 15 minutes. The APC BE650G comes with a full warranty (parts and labor with the customer responsible for shipment to APC and APC pays return shipping) and a lifetime $75,000 connected equipment warranty. Overall, an impressive product and a great value!

Cons: The APC MSRP for the BE650G is premium priced compared to the competition. When purchased during a sale or promotion, this UPS can be the best value around.

I purchased two APC BE650G UPSs and connected them to two desktops: a Dell Inspiron 530 (Intel Quad Core 6600/ 3 HDD/ Vista 32 bit) and a Dell Vostro 460 (Intel Core i5 2400/ 1 HDD/ Win7 64 bit). ONLY the desktops are connected to the battery backup outlets with the APC PowerChute software (automatic shutdown software) installed and set to shut down the system with 8 minutes of battery time remaining. Since the BE650G is limited to 650VA, the monitors and other peripherals are connected to the surge protection outlets ONLY and are NOT powered during a power outage. The Ethernet RJ45 is connected through the onboard surge protector.

Other Thoughts: I ran a test on each computer that simulated shutdown for a full power outage while running two Firefox browser windows, a Word document, an Excel document, and a PDF document. After shutting off power to each computer (disconnected the UPS from the home power outlet) I observed the shutdown sequence and restart for each computer. With a full battery charge, the Dell Inspiron shutdown after 17 minutes on backup power while the Dell Vostro shutdown after 21 minutes on backup power. Each backup battery had about 20% reserve power when the shutdown sequence started. With power restored (re-connected the UPS into the home power outlet), I restarted each computer and each returned to exactly the same browser and document windows that were open prior to the power outage with no loss of any working documents!
