The APC BE450G incorporates a variety of features to make it the "greenest" battery backup in its class while still offering reliable power protection for your computer and peripherals. It uses a highly efficient design to save energy and has an RoHS (Reduction of Hazardous Substances) certification to help reduce the toxic materials in our dumps.

The APC BE450G has eight outlets, four of which are linked to the battery power, with four providing surge-only protection for less critical equipment. The maintenance-free sealed Lead-Acid battery lets the UPS run up to 9.4 minutes at its half load, offering you enough time to close files and protect data in a power outrage. It also protects connected loads against surges, spikes, lightning, and other power disturbances.

Battery failure notification provides timely warning fault analysis so you know when the UPS needs maintenance. The award-winning shutdown software automatically saves and closes open files and shuts down the PC in an intelligent and orderly manner, with audible alarms. Count on the BE450G and APC to keep your valuable equipment and data safe!

5 out of 5 eggsA great backup!

Pros: -Battery Backup
-Software controlled (optional - see other thoughts)
-Has a 4 port surge protector too

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: We use these both at the office and it lead to my eventual purchase at home.
As mentioned it has firmware that can control this via usb. It tells you the battery status and life %, estimates of how long the system can run under battery, and a bunch of other things. My favorite is the ability to turn off your pc when the % hits a certain level, this is very useful for a RAID. Also, very useful for safely shutting down all pcs on the network in the event of a blackout.
It also has a 4 port surge protector incase you want to plug in a few more things without taking battery life (useful considering it takes out an outlet). This is great if you bought it to backup a monitor/computer and don't want to drain battery over a printer or speakers.
We only had one fail here and purchased many. It works, but every now and then it fails to run off of battery in the event of a blackout (the battery also frantically beeped out of nowhere on 2 occasions). We ran tests with the firmware (before and after reseating the battery) and they are inconclusive showing no sign of issue with battery life - so I do not know where to go with that one. (not a complaint, could just be faulty wiring at that specific workstation - we actually relocated it recently and no complaints so far). Basically what I am saying is that the event of getting a dud are literally 1 in a million.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat you come to expect from APC

Pros: 1. Plug and Play (Relatively you do need to pug in the battery)
2. No software required to have it shut down windows when the power goes out
3. Ample power plugs
4. Uses USB
5. The cord has a really nice end that is also out at 45 deg
6. Silent not a single fan to worry about

Cons: 1. Really heavy (Then again what UPC is not?)
2. Really annoying loud beep (But then again I guess that is what you actually want, I just kinda find it annoying)

Other Thoughts: I have 2 of these now, I have one for my networking and NAS system and I have the other hooked up to my personal server. ( Not in the same location as the other )

I will tell ya what I sure do like them, I really like being able to just plug the USB into my server and have windows take care of a controlled shut down in case of a power outage or just a little brown out.

I also have a Pro1500 that I use on my work station, you pay a little more for APC but in my experience you get more.

5 out of 5 eggsGood UPS for light loads

Pros: These smaller Back-Ups UPSs are handy for many sensitive electrical devices including cable modems, emergency lighting, etc. They are small enough to be portable and convenient with a modest price point.

These small footprint UPSs can prevent a lot of electrical damage to electronics from surges and brown-outs in addition to providing a short run time in the event of a complete power outage.

Cons: Depending on how much load you apply the run times are relatively short.

Other Thoughts: The "overview" for this product states that all APC Back-Up UPS come with a three year warranty yet the "details" section states that it only has a 2 year warranty - which is more likely.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for a 1U Server

Pros: ~Gives me 15 extra minutes as advertised. Even with a dual-CPU 1U server.
~Software allows my system to automatically, gracefully shut down before power runs out.
~Has already saved me two potential headaches.

Cons: ~A bit large/heavy.

Other Thoughts: As usual, Newegg provided quick, efficient service. :)

4 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: So far so good. This is my second APC (first I bought about 8 years ago). Served me well. I am going to order another one (have a second office).

Cons: Need to mention though: the order came without the software disk ...:-( Honestly, I expected a better care from you. I need to order another one. So, you guys, better be sure that you packed everything that belongs to this order.
That is why the overall rating is not the highest one.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for TV

Pros: I live in a rural area, and am constantly plagued by intermittent breaks in
my electric service. The breaks last only a few seconds but a 1 second break causes my DIRECTV receiver to reset. This takes what seems to last about 10 minutes or more. With the APC 450 I don't think I'll ever have to wait again.
I was going to get the 350 which would have worked fine but newegg had the 450 on sale for the same price. I'll now feel comfortable hooking up my router too. Way to go newegg.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat For Modem/Router

Pros: Got this to keep my modem/router on during an outage. I have AT&T Uverse Voice so the modem has to be on to make calls. If the power goes out then no phone. Got this to use exclusively on the modem/router. When I tested on a full charge, it keeps it going for nearly 3 hours before it goes off. I was really impressed it stayed on that long. The price is really great too. Good quality as well. I like the software you can use on the computer to let you know how long you have left on a charge, also lets you disable the annoying alarm sounds.

Cons: None that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: Like I said I got this for my Uverse modem/router to keep it going for my phone during a power outage. I'm really impressed it keeps the power going so long. Nearly 3 hours. I like the way its made as well, kinda flat and not tall so it fits real nice on the side shelf on my desk. The price was not too bad as well. I checked the price on the Belkin one that goes with the Uverse modems and it was $129 and they dont last nearly as long as this one. The software is great as well so you can see how long of a charge you have left and also disable the annoying alarms. The last one I had there was a button on the top you could hit and it would stop beeping but this one doesnt have that. There was one little mistake I made, and yeah it was my fault for not looking closer, but only 2 of the plugs on the top are for backup and supply power in an outage. The others are just surge protectors. I was trying to use one of those at first and thought I had a bad one. Was about to send it back to Newegg and then I saw the writing on the top. Newegg is always great with shipping of course.

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It does what it's supposed to without any major hiccups

Cons: Plugging things in is a huge pain. Some of the sockets are fine, but others require me putting my entire upper body weight on the plug in order for it to go in
