CyberPower CP825LCD Standby UPS System

Offering battery backup protection for home computers and networks, wireless routers and entertainment equipment.

Why you need it: When power goes out for even a second it can result in data loss and hardware damage which can shorten equipment life expectancy. This battery backup unit provides sufficient emergency runtime power to allow for safe closure of open files and proper shut down of electronics when an outage occurs. In addition, it safeguards electronics from commonly occurring power surges caused by storms, activity on the power grid or high-powered equipment turning on and off.

Typical Use

Provides backup power and surge protection for home and small office computers, wired and wireless network routers and modems, home theater systems, game consoles and personal electronics. Safeguards valuable documents, photos, videos and music files from loss or damage due to surges and uncontrolled equipment shutdown caused by power interruptions.

Product Highlights

Surge Protection — Prevents damage to equipment from surges and spikes, including lightning, and also safeguards telephone and fax equipment, cable modems and routers from power surges traveling through unprotected phone or data lines (RJ11/RJ45). The amount of energy a surge protector can absorb is measured in joules. A higher joule rating means more protection.

Ultra-Quiet Operation — Eliminates distracting fan noise normally emitted by battery backup units.

ENERGY STAR Qualified — Recognized by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as one of the most energy efficient battery backup units available.

Multifunction LCD Panel — Displays battery backup vitals for easy monitoring of run-time and power conditions.

Additional Features

Computer Monitoring — PowerPanel Personal Edition management software allows for controlling and monitoring the battery backup to safeguard open files and connected equipment during an outage.

Versatile Design — Compact unit stands upright, lies flat or hangs on a wall.

USB Communication Port — Allows communication between the battery backup unit and the PowerPanel software installed on the connected computer to enable power management and auto shutdown functionality.

Noise Filtering — Advanced EMFI/RFI noise filtering coils reduce electromagnetic and radio frequency interference that cause disruptive humming and static.

Wide-Spaced Outlets — Large transformer block-style plugs can be connected without obstructing other outlets.

Building Wiring Fault Indicator — LED status light on battery backup unit indicates wall outlet wiring problems, such as improper grounding, that could inhibit surge protection or cause shocks. When lit, a professional electrician should be contacted to correct the problem.

Audible Alarms — Distinctive tones sound when the backup unit is on battery power, overloaded or low on power. The alarm can be silenced if desired.

FREE PowerPanel Personal Edition Management Software

PowerPanel PE is included with this battery backup unit and is easily downloaded and installed on any computer. Its diagnostic screens facilitate complete control of the battery backup unit's capabilities.

Highlights
  • Intuitive dashboard design
  • Real-time monitoring of battery backup status
  • Self-testing functionality
  • Adjustable high/low voltage warnings
  • Safe auto shutdown
  • Configurable system notifications
  • Power problem event summary

Versions available for download:

PowerPanel PE for Windows — Compatible with Windows 2000, 2003, XP 32/64, Vista 32/64, 7, 8, and Server 2008 and 2012

5 out of 5 eggsBattery was Disconnected

Pros: - Compact in size and weight
- Good Price to Performance
- LCD screen nice added touch

Cons: - Battery leads can come off during shipping

Other Thoughts: When i first received this UPS, it wouldn't run off of the battery, and would beep constantly unless I muted it, and the green light would flash constantly. According to the software and the LCD display, the battery was 100% and present, but nothing would run off the battery and self tests would instantly fail. My initial thoughts were, "shucks, its a dud."

When I came back to the office on Monday and it was still flashing, I decided to check the battery and see if I could find anything wrong. I removed the battery and the wire leads slipped off too easily for comfort. I re-connected the leads securely and closed everything back up. I pushed the power button and for the first time the UPS was working, with a battery charge of 40% and capable of powering the computer by itself without wall A/C.

Since then I've charged it up full, run thorough tests and all is working well. can't really dock an egg because the battery likely disconnected during shipping, but the false positive on a disconnected battery is definitely a red herring when you are trying to diagnose the problem lol.

3 out of 5 eggsIt works, but is an old product

Pros: Compact size for the capacity it has, LCD status helps determine if your devices are within the UPS' capacity, low price.

Cons: This UPS has "Made for XP logos" on the box and software. Best case scenario is that it is 6 years old as the "made for Vista" logos replaced the XP logos in 2006.

Batteries don't last forever, but the unit does have a 3 year warranty.

Cons: Would have liked a longer cord to get to the wall though having to move the desk was inconvenient.

Other Thoughts: No dim button on the Display screen.

4 out of 5 eggsWe'll See

Pros: Nice unit - high output. Run time is not long, but this is due to it's physical size as only one battery will fit in the unit.

Cons: This unit died in a surge 60 days after purchase and we lost all of the equipment (Linksys 48p switch and access point) that was plugged into it.

All other UPS units are APC SmartUPS and BackUPS and had no problem with the surge.

Other Thoughts: The only reason I docked a star was because the other APC units did their job.

Now waiting to see how well Cyberpower holds up on warranty claims.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: It's been running great for over a year and I couldn't be happier. Everything works as advertised. In some cases, I'm getting better performance in a power failure compared to what the manufacture specs state.

Cons: I don't like the outlet spacing/design. I have a few wall warts that eat up space on this thing. I solved it with a little 8 inch extension cord for each wart, but I would rather not do that sort of thing.

Other Thoughts: I got this after a power outage destroyed a raid array in my NAS. I connected this to two servers (one is a very low-power NAS), a cable modem, a VOIP modem and a wifi router. Since everything is low power, I'm using 50% to 75% of the load depending on the day. I used the linux drivers to shut down one of the servers at power failure. I leave the NAS, the VOIP, the modem, and the router running. I usually get about 45 minutes of run time. I'll get about 12 mins if I keep the more power hungry server running. If I decide to manually kill the NAS, I can get over an hour of use. The drivers then cleanly shut everything down when the power is low enough. That's usually all I need to get through a power outage. I'm probably going to get a couple more of these so that each server has its own, more than capable UPS, and I can also put the modems and router on its own battery.

1 out of 5 eggsCyberPower never again

Pros: Has a LCD screen

Cons: It can't handle advertised load. This item suppose to protect my electronics from failing not causing the failure.

Other Thoughts: It's too much hassle to return it. I won't buy anything else with CyberPower brand on it. I should have spent $10 more and stick with UPC.
