5 out of 5 eggsFantastic UPS

Pros: Had this 3 years in a apartment and house for my home server, works like a charm (battery still working after 3 years). Finally need to replace the battery on the 1000VA version I bought 2 years before that (so 5 years old).

So between both of the Procom UPSs I own, both are fantastic and well worth the price (I have about 5 APC as well which their batteries don't last as long under the same loads).

Cons: Heavy, but what do you expect?

Other Thoughts: I'd buy again in a heart beat.

3 out of 5 eggsGood price, decent UPS, questionable long-term quality

Pros: Have owned three of these 1500VA units over the last 5 years. Very good price point for the capacity. Units have done well riding through utility low-voltage dips and multiple utility failures. Original batteries lasted about 3 years and replacements are cheap and easy to find and install.

The software is a bit lack-luster but does work; it takes a bit of experimentation to get it to work right. In the end, it can send e-mail notifications, which I have going to my cell phone as a text message, and the readouts and logs do work. Questionable battery readings however, as the instant utility power is lost, the battery charge drops drastically; it is not a smooth decline.

Overall a decent unit for the price.

Cons: My major issue with these is workmanship and quality. Out of three units owned over a 4-5 year span, all three have failed inexplicably. Not battery failure, but electronics. Two I never could explain. The third had one of the transformer lead solder joins on the main board simply fall off; this must have obviously been a poor solder connection at the time of manufacturing.

Other Thoughts: While the price is great and I trusted the units while they worked, after three out of three failures I will unfortunately not return to the Powercom brand.

1 out of 5 eggsCauses more failures than it prevents

Pros: Cheap and big.

Cons: Causes more downtime than it cures. For some reason, its wanting to go onto battery backup even though I've got power. Then it runs out of juice and brings my computer down. It theoretically has monitoring software, but only if you have an RS-232 port available. There is absolutely no way to see why it thinks its switching to backup and there is absolutely no way for it to shut your computer down. In order to get back up I unplugged the darn thing.

Other Thoughts: Opti-UPS has the same problems and I think is just a different nameplate on the same piece of junk.

So: Unreliable and impossible to manage. Waste of money IMO.

5 out of 5 eggsworks awesome for me

Pros: works very well for what im using it for...a stable all communication open work station in a power failure

Cons: ive had three instances it turned my rig restart just 8 months...i bought it in 8/ posting this review 4/09
my input voltage swings from hi 80's to hi 120's tho mostly in the 100-115 cuts and boosts where needed to keep over 110 but under 130...which is much needed where i am

Other Thoughts: this runs my 21 inch trinitron monitor, my modem, my router, my cordless phone and base, a 100 watt desk lamp plus my rig

q6600 3.94 max on air
4 sticks of 1 gig gskil
antec 900 3-120mm and 1-200mm fans plus my ifx-14's 2-140 mm's
260 gtx 216 65nm overclocked
1 hdd
and only uses 34% at idle...50% at max usage...using the monitoring software included

1 out of 5 eggsIndifferent Customer Service

Pros: Affordable 900w UPS.

Cons: The unit I received from newegg had a bad battery which was confirmed by the King Pro monitoring software. The unit will fails with only a 93 watt load. I called their customer support and my options were pay to have it shipped at my own expense to "have them look at it", or buy a new battery for it. They would not just send me a working battery or reimburse me if I were to buy one.

So if I have to pay for shipping I'm RMAing it to NewEgg for a reimbursement.

Other Thoughts: It might be a worthwhile buy if you're shipped a working UPS, just don't depend on their customer support to come through for you if there are any problems.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: This is a great behemoth of a UPS. It'll keep everything you have running and more.

Cons: Not many outlets, but if you plan things out before hand that shouldn't be an issue.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Works Perfect on a very demanding system.

Cons: Not USB.

Other Thoughts: Wish I noticed this was Com based and not USB based. Luckily I have a Com Port, though not all new motherboards (Asus P5B) have Com ports without buying additional equipment.

3 out of 5 eggsNot what i hoped for

Pros: its an ok ups. it has the really loud beep and starts automatically like its supposed to but i noticed that running 3/4 capacity it held up for less an hour. unless i misunderstood the information, it should last 80 minutes at full load...

Cons: i did not like the fact that it did not last as long as they said it would, nor the fact that as soon as the power goes out, it immediately drops down to 89% charge and quickly works its way down to 59%, then out of nowhere, drops STRAIGHT down to 29% and starts beeping really quick(low power). it is really sensative to low power so do not plug in anything jumpy on voltage.

Other Thoughts: the software is a bunch of bs. it does not give accurate readouts. the batteries did not hold a full charge when new, nor do they now.
i would say it is my luck, but if i were you, i would walk on past this one and come back later and look.
