3 out of 5 eggsLasted 3.5 years. Not True Sine Wave. Runs very hot

Pros: It did its job with equipment for about 3.5 years. If your power supplies don't mind step wave, the unit is fine

Cons: Does not talk to Linux. Sales said it would. Support then said it would. I spent a lot of time before I finally got support in Taiwan who said "We never got that working." Sales gave me a partial refund to cover the "required" special cables I'd purchased.

Batteries died at 3.5 years. Not worth repairing.

Other Thoughts: I didn't pay very much for it, and I guess I got what I paid for.

5 out of 5 eggsGood UPS

Pros: This is my second one of these. My last one lasted me 7 years... One battery change. Really nice UPS for the price. I am really glad that they still make these. The software works much better now too.

Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsproblems with power on/off

Pros: when working, it was great

Cons: The micro on/off switch is HORRID. For six months I battled each time to turn it on or off. A replacement switch sent by the factory was worse, I could not turn it on more than once and then when I had a power failure - it shut off.

Do NOT buy this unit.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Unit

Pros: Purchased in April 2007. Had this unit for about one year and it crapped on me. They repaired (maybe sent a new one. can't recall for sure) it and it finally crapped out again for good last week, July of 2012. I called there and got somebody on the phone right away (just like I did 5+ years ago) and the dude told me to check the battery voltage. Already knew that but thought I would see if there was anything else I could check or do to be sure it was dead. In reality what was I thinking? 5+ years for a UPS? Not much else to do but get a new one... Side note: Of course two days after the unit dies the power goes out from a storm. The surge jacked up my power supply (always have a spare power supply handy!!) and I am in need of one those as well!!

Cons: It didn't last 8 years :-)

2 out of 5 eggs9 out of 20 are dead.

Pros: The first few we purchased lasted many years.

Cons: As we've expanded, we've added tons of these units, and now they are dying every month. They will no longer turn on, and the cost to ship these in for warranty repair is likely not worth it, especially if we get another unit that will likely die on us.

Other Thoughts: I used to think these were the best, but switched to another brand and haven't looked back. There is clearly a degradation in quality with more recent units.

2 out of 5 eggsElectronics fail before the battery

Pros: Case and materials appear to be solid. Batteries last more than 2 years and would probably last for 3 to 5 if the electronics within the UPS lasted that long. Plenty of room in the back to connect the monitor, computer, external drive array and on the surge suppressor side, the sound system.

Cons: During the last power drop, which had a power spike follow it, the electronics near one of the heat sinks fried. I thought it was a bad battery, but was having trouble removing the battery, so I removed the entire cover to get to it easier and noticed a large oblong dark spot on the clear plastic that protected the board from the case. There are 2 fuses rated 30amps near that entry point and neither were blown, but the resistors and capacitors near the dark spot were all blown, thus allowing a surge to pass through to my computer that took out the power supply and memory. How it missed the CPU or motherboard, I will never know, but I would expect the UPS to protect the hardware connected to it during a power surge that follows a power drop. This was not the case.

Other Thoughts: Neighborhood gets hit with a lot of power drops that last less than 30 seconds - enough to cause havoc with anything not protected. I had 3 of these units (1 left) and watched them hold up throughout the worst of the power spikes in our area (would not try it in Florida near those storms). Each unit supported a computer, monitor and external drives. They lasted just over 2 years and were rock solid during that time.

I suspect that the constant work that power drops and surges put these units through are part of the reason for the short lifespan.

Because the electronics die before the battery and the resulting power spike is allowed to pass through to the items it is supposed to be protecting, I will stay away from this brand until they find a way to resolve that issue. I had hoped these would resolve my problem with the short life of the APS batteries, but I guess I will have to try something else.

5 out of 5 eggs1 year of service follow up post

Pros: This is the second one I've owned. The first one was still going strong after 4 yrs. of service. It was stolen. This one is protecting two design and rendering computers (w/ multi-monitors) and has saved my backside many times. It doesn't use that much electricity in stand-by mode. I don't use the available application stuff. Just turn it on and go.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I doubt if an U.P.S. is needed by everyone, but if you think you do then you do - just buy one! It's kinda like insurance except it pays off much faster - in picoseconds.

5 out of 5 eggs5 years of solid service -- RIP

Pros: Lasted for about 5 years running a critical data logger and testing gear in our lab. Still available for purchase from NewEgg, which is always great.

Cons: Looks like the transformer went belly up. It's never good when an electrical component goes "hiss, snap, crackle, pop." Okay for breakfast cereal though.

Other Thoughts: I just bought another one from NewEgg. Saving the old one for parts. Hope to get 5 years out of this new one too.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfect

Pros: I've had this for 6 months now and I must say it is awesome, kicks in just long enough for the power to either come back on or allow me to shut down everything to not lose data. Zero issues with it what so ever!

Cons: Doesn't have a USB connection to automatically shut down the PC incase I'm not here which is slightly disappointing but I'll get over it.

Other Thoughts: Overall I'd highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fairly cheap way to protect their computer.

3 out of 5 eggsDied after 4.5 years plus.

Pros: Worked without a hitch since I bought it from NewEgg ~ 9/2005.

Cons: Started beeping this morning and switched to the battery mode even though there is line power. A relay clicks periodically. The batteries check good. The output voltage is 101 V. No schematics are available. Will buy another one and try to fix this one.

Other Thoughts: It is a shame I cannot just replace the control board.
