Do you need to protect mission-critical electronic equipment such as servers, networking equipment, and telecom systems against data loss, downtime, and equipment damage due to power outages, voltage fluctuations, and transient surges? Tripp Lite's SU1500XL SmartOnline™ Tower UPS System is the solution! Featuring true on-line operation with pure sine wave output and zero transfer time to battery, it provides the highest level of power protection for mission-critical equipment. The SU1500XL's large internal battery set supports connected equipment during blackouts, and runtime is expandable with optional external battery packs (Tripp Lite model BP48V24-2U or BP48V60RT-3U), sold separately. The SU1500XL has two outlet load banks, each with three outlets, that are individually controllable to reboot select equipment on demand or maximize battery runtime for mission-critical equipment. USB and DB9 communication ports support messaging of detailed UPS operational parameters and line power status. Included PowerAlert power management software supports an unlimited number of network UPS systems, and an optional SNMPWEBCARD accessory enables the UPS to operate as a managed device on the network.

Ideal for Protection of Mission-Critical Equipment

With a 1500VA/1200W capacity, the SU1500XL provides true on-line operation, reliable battery backup and comprehensive power management capability in a compact tower form factor. Featuring six 5-15R outlets, USB/DB9 ports and SNMP capability, the SU1500XL offers a complete power protection solution for servers, storage devices, telecom systems, and other mission-critical applications.

True On-Line Operation with Zero Transfer Time

The SU1500XL provides the highest level of protection available for mission-critical equipment. It actively converts raw incoming AC power to DC, then re-converts it back to regulated, filtered AC output with a pure sine wave, completely isolating connected components from all power problems. Zero transfer time between AC and battery operation maintains continuous output and further protects connected equipment from the disruptive effects of blackouts and severe low-voltage conditions. Sine wave output guarantees compatibility with all equipment types.

Individually Controllable Load Banks

The SU1500XL'S six 5-15R outlets are arranged in two load banks of three outlets each that are individually controllable via a software interface for remote reboot of locked-up equipment or load shedding to maximize battery backup time for mission-critical equipment.

Reliable, Expandable Battery Backup

UPS battery backup keeps connected equipment operational through short power failures, and provides time to save data and perform an orderly system shutdown in case of a prolonged blackout. The SU1500XL features a large internal battery set that provides 14 minutes of battery support for a half load (600 watts) and 4.5 minutes for a full load (1200 watts). During normal operation, incoming utility power keeps the UPS battery fully charged so that backup power will always be available if needed. For mission-critical applications demanding continuous uptime, the fully scalable SU1500XL can provide expandable runtime with optional external battery packs (Tripp Lite model BP48V24-2U or BP48V60RT-3U), sold separately.

Complete Surge Suppression with Tel/DSL and Ethernet Jacks

A sudden power surge or spike can damage or destroy electronic components and wipe out irreplaceable data. The SU1500XL features a 570-joule surge suppression rating to protect connected components and data from the harmful effects of power surges. One set of tel/DSL/Ethernet (RJ45) jacks provides surge protection for a standard phone or network connection (cable not included).

EMI/RFI Line Noise Filtering

Various electrical and radio sources can cause disruptive interference on the AC line. This line noise is a common cause of incremental hardware damage, data corruption and audio/video performance problems. The SU1500XL incorporates technology that filters out disruptive line noise, preventing it from affecting your equipment.

Front-Panel LEDs and Audible Alarm

The SU1500XL features 14 front-panel LEDs that enable IT personnel to monitor line power, on-line mode, bypass mode, on-battery, overload, battery low, replace battery and fault status information. An audible alarm signals UPS startup, power failure, low battery, overload, UPS fault and remote shutdown conditions.

Communications Ports, SNMP Capability and Included PowerAlert Software

The SU1500XL features one USB port and one DB9 port (cables included). When used with Tripp Lite's included PowerAlert software, these ports provide comprehensive network power monitoring and control. Capabilities include UPS and line power status messaging (on battery, low-battery, power restored, AC line voltage, DC battery voltage and remaining battery capacity), timed inverter shut-off after unattended shutdown, and UPS output power control for delayed or immediate reboot of connected devices. The SU1500XL also accepts an optional SNMPWEBCARD accessory that enables the UPS to operate as a managed device on the network.

Emergency Power-Off (EPO) Capability

The SU1500XL features an EPO interface port that supports emergency shut-off in large facilities (cable included).

Versatile Installation Options

The SU1500XL's compact tower form factor makes it easy to integrate with a wide range of home, business, commercial, industrial, and IT applications.

Peace of Mind

The SU1500XL comes backed by a 2-year warranty and $250,000 of Ultimate Lifetime Insurance coverage for connected equipment.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Not known yet. In theory this should be quite a nice unit.

Cons: Unit arrived DOA. Fault light came on when plugged in. Unit shows good input in software monitoring, but is unable to output and give 'General Fault' error.

Other Thoughts: Tripp-Lite tech support has authorized a RMA and will cross-ship a new unit at no cost.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: Pure AC sine wave.
Big and bad.

Cons: Loud fans run always. Can i replace them with something quieter and not void the warranty?

My spidey-sense says, no.

The manual says" "there are NO user serviceable parts in the UPS". Except the battery i presume...

Other Thoughts: The monitor does enter sleep mode now.

4 out of 5 eggsVista 64 Power Mngt?

Pros: 1200w output can handle the inrush current demand of a 1000w power supply.
Online UPS with true under/over voltage regulation
USB interface.
External battery terminals to add a 2nd battery pack.

Cons: The Tripplite software seems to have conflicted with the power management software in my Vista 64 machine. Neither the monitor or the PC will enter sleep mode automaticly any more.

Other Thoughts: I uninstalled the Tripplite software and deleted the registry entry, but the no auto sleep mode problem remains. I suspect it is a USB or a 64 bit OS conflict.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Mac Servers

Pros: HID compliant USB port (necessary for MAC power management)
Affordable on-line power delivery (zero lag time with power outages)
Additional batteries can be added
Smart card expandable for online monitoring of system conditions

Cons: Moderately loud fans which run continuously

Other Thoughts: I have a MAC server (Leopard) and have been frustrated with finding a UPS unit that works with its power management settings. You need to read the fine print with each unit and make sure that it has a "HID compatible" USB port otherwise it doesn't work. Additionally, the more you research UPS units, the more you will realize that "online" units offer the best protection. This item fits the bill in an affordable package. The fans are moderately loud, however, mine runs in a server room so I don't care. Overall, excellent product.
