5 out of 5 eggsGreat Box, BUT...I'm Confused

Pros: I have two of these...as well as three SD30G2PLUS Shuttles. They are my favorite platforms.

Cons: OK, the V2 has an upgraded motherboard and a new BIOS. Great. So, why is the V2 10 bucks cheaper than the older V. 1.2? I am confused...less money for more box?

Other Thoughts: I love shuttles and have:

SG31G2: Q9650, 9800GT
SG31G2: Q9550, 9800GT
SD30G2PLUS: E8600, 8800GT
SD30G2PLUS: E8400, NPV295
SD30G2PLUS: E6850, 8800GT

Just buy one...and you will see why I bought FIVE.

5 out of 5 eggsGets the job done ... NEATLY!

Pros: Small, quiet, and comes with everything needed although I used some artic silver for peace of mind instead of the white paste that was included. The system was put together quickly once all the parts came in and I had zero BIOS/Boot issues. (Not sure if BIOS is most recent, but seeing as how I had no problems at all with the config, I didn't see a need to go messing around.

Cons: Taking in to account what its designed for (read not power hungry users), there are no faults at all...:)

Well, there is that bright blue power light...

Other Thoughts: System was built for my mom so it had to have a small foot print and needed to be quiet. I put in a SAPPHIRE 100255HDMI Radeon HD 4670 so that my son (14yrs) can play some games when we go over. This video card DOESN'T require an additional power connection and the games he plays (UT3, L4D, COD:WAW). They play remarkable well at 1280x1024 on high settings. (yes she still has a CRT. That's next to go.)

System parts:
Intel E8400 (stock speed)
A-Data 4gb DDR2800 cas5
WD 640gb HDD
LG Blu-ray player GGC-H20L
Radeon HD 4670

Everything ran fine on first boot. Installed Windows 7RC with zero problems. This system is replacing another Shuttle- nForce2 based!(which is still running fine although slow by todays standards)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

Pros: Shuttle SG31G2, Intel E5200, Corsair 4GB DDR2 800, Western Digital Caviar 320 GB, SAMSUNG 22X DVD Burner
SAMSUNG SyncMaster P2350, and Vista Home Premium 64bit. Total Cost $713. Absolutely Pleased, Very Fast & Very Stable. Easy to build - Loaded OLD SOFTWARE with no problems finding drivers & updates for the 64bit.
On board video & audio is great. Hooked up a pair of old JBLs, and was blowed away with the sound quality.
By the way Newegg is great to work with.

Cons: NONE

Other Thoughts: I will soon be 72 yrs old, if I did it so can you.
Why buy a machine loaded with a bunch of promo-junk that you don't want / need.

5 out of 5 eggsHas Thermal Grease

Pros: Easily assembled with the suggested components from shuttle's website
http://global.shuttle.com/support_list03.jsp?PI=646
I had a small packet of thermal compound included with the cables, ties, and case hardware. I read in another review that I needed to purchase some.

Essentially next day shipping for everything I ordered.

Cons: mehh there is no wifi on the mobo, and I forgot to order a wireless PCI/USB card. No big deal though.

Other Thoughts: I've only had the computer for a day so... this review probably doesn't have much credibility

5 out of 5 eggsSG31G2 - Open Box

Pros: Purchased an Open Box item of this and assembled with 4GB Geil Black Dragon and an E6750 and an old x800xl I still have. This thing booted up immediately and with a repair of an XP install from a salvaged HDD, it was working without issue within a couple hours (probably less).

Cons: The light is pretty bright on the front of the case... but that can be worked around easily.

Other Thoughts: Quiet and solid for my purposes. Hooked up to my living room LCD TV and it works flawlessly. I think I'll be sticking with Shuttles for a long time.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat little box

Pros: Very well designed box, easy to set up, no BIOS issues with newer processors like some other brands (i.e. core 2 quad Q9550), runs very cool and nearly silent.

Cons: This is both a pro and a con, but one time I forgot to plug the CPU fan back in after the initial build. The good is that it ran acceptably cool for several hours. The bad is that it let me do it (most systems would have failed to boot). There is no ugly.

Other Thoughts: I've built about a dozen of these using Core 2 Duos and Core 2 Quads - no problems of any kind !!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Things in a Small Package

Pros: Shuttle DOES listen & several things noted as "con's" in the past seem to be addressed in the unit I received. But those "con's" were pretty minor in my mind to begin with.

Bottom line - LOVE It: Fast, Quiet, Simple Design, fits Exactly where I need it to.

Arrived in great condition on time - very well built, nice design, and a lot more features on the motherboard than listed. I will be exploring those more in time, but my original intent for the unit was just to be my "Communications" box to handle my huge load of emails and other simular things.

Used the combination most seemed to like for Memory / CPU (CORSAIR 4GB TWIN2X4096-6400C5 & Intel Core 2 Duo Wolfdale 3.0GHz 65W Model BX80570E8400) - VERY happy with the result.

Shuttle's cooling solution is well thought out and good. Enough space is available to use the Intel Fan and Heat Fins in addition to the Shuttle's, so I have 2 fans cooling it even more.

Cons: I check the facts carefully and buy a unit that FITS my need. So for me.. NO Con's.

Other Thoughts: Fan noise, WHAT noise. Even with my adding a fan the unit is VERY quiet IF on Automatic, Forcing it to run Fast, yes you will have noise.

Many say the Drive / Power LED's are too bright, and I agree, but that can be delt with on your own.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good

Pros: Small form-factor, looks neat and tidy, easy to put together

Cons: Can behave unpredictably if you don't use parts from the recommended parts list. The motherboard is a pit picky about what you connect to it.
Minor niggle, but the power supply is a bit under-powered and its fan is a bit noisy.

Other Thoughts: Pretty satisfied with the so far. Just need to invest in a new hard drive to replace the 4-year old clunkler I put into it.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Basic Computer - Not for Gaming

Pros: Owned this unit for just over a year now and have to say the build quality of the machine is excellent. Everything fits together nicely, cables are long enough to reach components, and the cabling of the machine is nice and clean. Easy to install CPU, Memory, Disk Drives. CD provided includes XP drivers, for most recent Vista (or Windows 7) you'll need to visit the manufacturer's website. I've run XP Pro, Vista Premium and Windows 7 on this machine without issues. Currently running Windows 7 and having much success. Really like the small form factor on the desktop as that was my main reason for buying it. If you're a gamer this machine is not for you. The graphics capabilities are adequate for XP/Vista/Win7 basic office functions, but not for gaming or high performance video. For my basic needs, this is a good machine.

Cons: Like many others on here, I've also experienced the dreaded "Verifying DMI Pool" issues on boot-up. Seems every time I go into the BIOS and make a change I get that error. Contrary to Shuttle's Tech Support, "Verifying DMI Pool" isn't due to the hard drive. I've had 20 different HD's in this thing, all of them have that error? I don't think so. Shuttle desperately needs to fix this issue. I'd happily buy another Shuttle *only if* Shuttle were to fix this specific issue.

Other Thoughts: My config:
G.SKILL 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ, Cas Latency 5, Timing 5-5-5-15, 1.8V - 1.9V
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3250410AS 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
- Intel Q6600 Quad-Core 2.4GHz
- Sony DVD Burner

4 out of 5 eggsso far so good

Pros: Easy to put together.
Intel Q8200 at stock speeds idles at 24C!!
SUPER quiet.

Cons: 1) Running WinXPpro 32bit, I can't get the on-board video to use more than 128MB of RAM. In the BIOS, It is set to MAX, which is supposed to be 384MB. But when I check in windows, the max is 128MB.
2)Shuttle tech support for this issue is weak.
3)Comes with only 1 SATA data cable.

Other Thoughts: After reading the numerous bad reviews I bought it anyway. I haven't had any problems other than that mentioned above.
I bought the Shuttle P23 internal USB card reader. That installed easily and works good. Only downside is that it was hard to find.
Would I buy it again? Probably. Though it feels like I got lucky when I read all the bad reviews out there. I made it a point to use only hardware that was on the supported hardware list, but I don't know if that's why I haven't had other problems.
