5 out of 5 eggsThe constantly evolving Shuttle XPC

Pros: About five years ago, I realized that I had built probably 100 PCs from scratch, and I was kind of tired of mounting mobos and banging my knuckles and tripping over hulking cases. I read a review of the SN41G and bought one on a whim. I have bought three more since then.

Shuttle makes solid little products, and you can see that they put a lot of thought and engineering into their designs. That SN41G is still running as a server, 24/7/365. Comparing it next to the SP35P2, I can see how much Shuttle has improved the noise and heat issues over time and revisions. They have also gotten better when it comes to installation ease. It took me maybe 15 minutes to assemble it, from box open to boot.

I have the SP35P2 paired with an E8400, a 9600GT, and two WD Raptors. Redonkulously fast, stable, quiet and cool. I've been playing COD4 at 1650x1050, eye candy on high, and it runs and looks so good, it brings a tear to my eye.

Cons: I wish it had a PCIe 1x slot. Shuttle needs to get out a BIOS update to fix the OC issues with the "R" BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Please note that, despite earlier claims, the HD audio chip (model 888) does not do DD realtime encoding over S/PDIF as the SX38 does with the 888DD chip. Shuttle pulled this from the specs once word got around, but caveat emptor.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Small quiet and simple to setup. I put the Q6600 in this guy and it runs nice and fast.

Cons: I wish the PCI and PCI-E slot were switched. I have an older TV car that was blocking all circulation for my video card. I ended up finding a nice big Fanless GIGABYTE GV-NX86T256H GeForce 8600GT. This fit perfect and runs cool.

Other Thoughts: I went with fanless to keep the noise down on the video card. If you have a larger heat sync on you video card you might not be able to use the PCI slot. This is my first shuttle and so far it is Great!

5 out of 5 eggsWorks well; can get a bit loud

Pros: I bought a recertified unit from Newegg. Quite a bargain. I am running a 8800GT video card and the computer is fast. The careful engineering that went into this thing is obvious. Very solid, lightweight, and well-organized. Except to a few minor issues discussed below, finishing the build is easy.

Cons: My instruction poster came only in Chinese :) I think this was a mixup. Also, the unit can be somewhat loud, particularly at startup. I wish I could figure out a way to lower the fan speed in the PSU. Just a little lower and it would still run cool but would help reduce noise immensely. Still love the unit though. One other nitpick, the eject button on the front of the case is hard to get to work, and to this day mine does not work consistently. Space is tight and video cards can be hard to fit in. Note that the system does have a clever hinged area over the video ports that opens up to allow wiggle room to fit the cards in. Both expansion slots must be unscrewed to open this hinge.

Other Thoughts: Although this unit is not the quietest unit I have ever heard, it is also not by a longshot the loudest. I still give it a 5, but I think buyers should be aware of the potential for noise. I think much of the noise is from the PSU fans, making it difficult to address with settings or aftermarket solutions. If anyone has a solution to this, I would be all ears.

5 out of 5 eggswow, but...

Pros: great box, has everything I need, sleek and stylish.

Cons: Mine was defective, and I had to send it back to the company. I don't know, I just turned it on, then turned off automatically.

Other Thoughts: I have had other shuttles, they are really good! This is my first problem with a shuttle. They are usually not defective, in fact, they work great!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat product - works fine with 45nm CPUs

Pros: Contrary to the other reviewer, this works fine with an E8400 45nm CPU.

Cons: OASIS cooling system - The heatsinks don't sit flush against the southbridge chip in at least 3 of the systems I have had my hands on. 2 of those systems there was noticable tilt on the northbridge. This could be a very bad thing if the heatsink isn't in full contact with the chipset.

Other Thoughts: The OASIS cooling system is a wasted effort. Give me at least the option of passive heatsinks instead. Fingerprint software doesn't work in 64-bit Vista. And who in their right mind *wants* a fingerprint driver/device on their system? Last thing I need are yet more flaky drivers to blame...

3 out of 5 eggsBIOS ISSUE

Pros: Good small and powerfull little box.

Cons: BIOS Stinks! Version Q was pulled as it was killing 45nm CPUs. Version O works with 45nm CPUs but kills the LAN. Version N does not support the 45nm CPUs. So in short as of right now this DOES NOT WORK WITH ANY 45nm CPUs.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully the BIOS issue will be fixed soon.

3 out of 5 eggsBIOS Needs Work

Pros: Good design, small and fairly quite.

Cons: The BIOS stinks! Version Q has been pulled as it was killing any 45nm CPUs. Version O kills the LAN port. So basicly it does NOT work with 45nm CPUs at the moment.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing little box of fun!

Pros: Amazing, excellent, great. Turned on and booted without issue first time up. Build quality of the interior is top notch. It's even pretty quiet with fans set to mid-performance. Love it!

Intel Core 2 Quad 6600
GSKILL 2x2G 1000 Mhz RAMXFX 8800GT extreme
750GB Seagate HDD

Cons: None that have anything to do with Shuttle. Kudos on an excellent system!

Other Thoughts: Beware the noise from stock 8800GT coolers... even then newer ones. Also, and pay attention n00bs - know your RAM! If it requires 2.1V to run @ 1000 Mhz, then dont forget to set it correctly in the BIOS before doing anything else.

4 out of 5 eggsRAID/SATA DVD Warning

Pros: This is my 6th shuttle box and they have all been good to me. I would recommend them to anyone wanting a simple, small computer that you don't plan to upgrade. Resale value is good too.

Cons: Unexpected problem with Intel ICH9R south bridge chipset, you can NOT RAID two drives with a SATA CD/DVD ROM device onboard. You must get IDE if you want to RAID. It isn't until after you get the error can you find anything abou this problem (Look it up FAQ/SP35P2 Pro "General FAQ 2007/11/22") So don't order SATA DVD with this unit. FYI: Latest driver/BIOs didn't help either.

Other Thoughts: Vista Ult 64-bit - Intel E6750 - 4GB GeIL 2x2GB DDR2 800 - 2x250 Segate SATA - LITE-ON DVD - ATI Radion 3870 - Samsung 226BW LCD - Logitech G11 & G5 LIFE IS GOOD!

5 out of 5 eggsA LANers DREAM

Pros: Supports high-end video cards, and duo/quad intel processors. Exceptional cooling. Finally a compact PC that can compete with a full tower.

Cons: Onboard sound is not the best, this is coming from a spoiled audio enthusiast.

Other Thoughts: I recommend adding the OCZ memory cooler, it helps to cool the northbridge and also adds a nice touch.

My PC: SP35P2 PRO, e6750 @ 3.2Ghz given 1.34V, eVGA 8800gt superclocked, 2x2GB G.Skill PK's w/ OCZ Memory Cooler, vista x64 BenQ FP94VW Silver-Black 19" 2ms, Asus 20X DRW-2014L1T
