Just because you work in a cube doesn't mean everything has to be ugly. The K-4500-RS Perfect Cube Mini PC from Shuttle is a space and power saving system that's a great choice for everyday tasks. It comes with an Intel Celeron 430 CPU for a great balance of power and efficiency. The Foresight Linux OS isn’t a memory hog so you only need the 512MB that's installed, though you can upgrade to 2GB if necessary.
The glossy black front cover has a removable clear panel that you can put your favorite picture behind. Or you can change images depending on your mood so other people coming into your space can get a heads up in regards to your mood.
Though the case is small, there's plenty of room for external expansion. Four USB 2.0 ports give you a multitude of options for external devices. A PCIe x16 expansion slot allows you to add more powerful video or other capabilities as needed. Power, efficiency and attractiveness - Shuttle hit the trifecta with the K-4500-RS!

Best Bang for the Buck.
- Pros: The build quality is amazing, you're getting a whole system for less than most Shuttle barebones. Case is solid, small, relatively light. Seagate 7200.10 3.0gb not sata 150 as listed. The ram is Crucial. Booted into Foresight which isn't a half bad Ubuntu-style Gnome based distro. Looks like it's going to be a great little network box. The Celeron in this box is based on the Conroe and uses 35w.
- Cons: 945GC Chipset supports pci-e, a pci-e x1 slot would have been more forward thinking instead of a pci. GMA950 isn't the most capable onboard graphics solution, but it seems to be towing the line. Warranty void if removed sticker? Sorry but you know people want to put in more ram and pci cards right?
- Other Thoughts: Immediately open this puppy up and take the header off the hard drive, it will let it operate at sata II instead of I. I put two Crucial Ballistix 1gb sticks in and it flies even with the Celeron.
Great Windows Home Server Box!
- Pros: This is the perfect box for Windows Home server. Small, quiet, pleanty of power for WHS. If I had known about this when building mine, I'd have gotten it.
- Cons: Will need more Harddrive space. Maybe 2x500GB. Will also need an external DVD drive for WHS installation.
- Other Thoughts: Love these SFF Shuttles

very noisy, good server box in a closet
- Pros: Very small box with decent hardware for linux. The default linux should be wiped and replaced with fedora or ubuntu or something stable. Other than that, great little server box.
- Cons: Very noisy little power supply fan is on full blast all the time - sounds like a little 1u mini server fan. No problem in a server room or a closet, but not something you want on a desktop.
- Other Thoughts: Shuttle sells a no-fan silent power supply, but it costs about $90. Puts a power supply brick outside the box, but claims no noise. Have no idea if it works for this box, but seems like it would make the noise level drop to a manageable level.
Bob
- Pros: The price is perfect. These make great computers for basic web surfing and office use. I installed Ubuntu without any issues. Very happy with the purchase.
- Cons: The warranty issue other reviewers mentioned. As a reminder be aware you cannot install an internal CD/DVD drive. The bay is blocked with sheet metal. I knew this when I made the purchase. An external CD/DVD is a worth while investment though, since you don't always use your CD/DVD drive and can unplug it when not in use to save some electricity.
- Other Thoughts: I bought two of these for two relatives who use them for web surfing and some light applications. They love'em.
IT Guru II - Warranty Sticker
- Pros: I see one other review based on the "sticker". I have a shuttle XPC and it also came with the warranty sticker. The first thing I wanted to do when I got it was to replace the DVD drive. I was very upset about the warranty sticker and called Shuttle ready to fight and complain that all I wanted to do was upgrade the DVD drive. Shuttle's response was a pleasant. "Sure go right ahead and do that. We will make a note about it in your file..."
- Cons: This little guy only has a 100w psu so I am not quite sure how much upgrading you will be able to do anyway.
- Other Thoughts: I had to mention this even though I don't own a KPC but I am seriously looking into getting one for each of my children so they will leave my computer alone!
