The XPC Barebone SH61R4 is based on Intel's H61 Express chipset for second-generation Intel Core processors (LGA1155) and features new, energy-efficient technologies and innovative functions like USB 3.0 for the office and home environment. It allows for up to three drives to be installed and can operate up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory at the same time. For expansions, one slot for PCI-E x16 2.0 (graphics cards), PCI-E x1 2.0 and mini PCI-E x1 2.0 (expansion cards) is available. The two digital monitor connectors on the rear can be controlled by the graphics function integrated in the Intel Core processors - without any add-on graphics card required in the PC. The front panel can be customized by adding individual design motifs for the maximum individuality possible.

  • newegg Supports Intel 32nm Sandy Bridge Processors The SH61R4 features Intel H61 chipset to support the 2nd Generation Intel Core processor family (Sandy Bridge). Sandy Bridge is the codename for Intel's new 32nm processor microarchitecture introduced in early 2011. It is the most sweeping architectural transition from Intel since the introduction of Pentium 4. In addition up to four CPU cores, the design incorporates the memory controller, PCIe links and the graphics processor. This integration brings higher performance, lower platform power consumption and more compact packaging. The integrated graphics processor (IGP) has become more capable. It can decode and encode H.264 highdefinition video streams. The architecture provides a high-bandwidth, ring-style interconnect between the cores with their associated L3 cache partitions and the IGP. This also allows the IGP to expand its available bandwidth by making use of the L3 cache.
  • newegg The R4 chassis design: clean, customizable, small and easy to build Shuttle XPCs offer the performance of a desktop PC at a third of the size while using standard desktop components. The construction and cover of the R4 chassis is made of aluminium. This leads to a stylish-robust appearance and makes it a popular design. The front of this XPC can easily be customized by simply changing the mylar behind the acylic front plate. Add your individual design such as a photo, graphics or a company logo to the front panel in just a few steps. The meticulously designed internal layout features pre-routed cables to reduce clutter, increase airflow and make the installation of components easy.
  • newegg Intelligent cooling Shuttle's exclusive Heatpipe Cooling technology with variable speed control automatically ensures maximum system stability and quiet operation in this aluminum Shuttle Mini-PC. Te warm air is specifically transferred out of the chassis by means of cleverly arranged components, which enables a large number of parts to be cooled simultaneously in the air flow. At no time can heat build up and adversely affect the stability of the system.
  • newegg Dual View Technology with two digital video ports Dual View technology offers multiple display support for up to two separate monitors. This helps to improve on productivity by allowing to spread multiple windows across two monitors while working with them simultaneously. The SH61R4 features two digital DVI video outputs.
  • newegg Internal Drives Up to one optical drive and two hard disks can be fitted in the SH61R4. To reduce heat and improve on airflow, the drive rack built into the SH61R4 leaves generous space between the hard disks. Intelligently engineered airflow mechanics channels cool air to where it is needed most - protecting components and providing optimal performance.
  • newegg The fastest connection to external peripheral devices available to date The USB 3.0 connectors of this model allow for data transfer of up to 5 Gbit/s (625 MB/s). This enables external devices such as USB hard disks to be connected and run at nearly the same speed as their internal siblings. USB 3.0 is downward compatible so that also devices of previous USB generations can be hooked up.

5 out of 5 eggsShuttle Computers are GREAT

Pros: Real easy to set up. I needed multiple monitors for my workstations and this fit the bill. i5-3570, 8GB RAM and an SSD make this a perfect workstation - Point Of Sale on one monitor while the other has internet and other apps. Easy build.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Business OC

Pros: Dual DVI ports, Quiet, stable.

Cons: Nothing.

Other Thoughts: I have been using Shuttle computers for over 10 years and this one is nice and stable just like most of them. Dual DVI ports is a necessity for a business computer these days. Saves me $100 on an NVS300. Someone said finicky about RAM. I've never had an issue, but I always use Crucial.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat value

Pros: Small footprint system with plenty of expansion room for sub-$250.

Cons: Dual ethernet would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a NAS platform for eSATA and optional USB3.0 if I needed it later. This system allowed for plenty of RAM with a decent CPU (I went with a Celeron G540) and an additional PCIe 1x SiI 3132 eSATA card. It has worked great running Ubuntu Server. No temperature problems or any other aside from some bad memory I had to replace.

1 out of 5 eggsstopped powering up...

Pros: quiet, nice formfactor, easy to setup

Cons: ugh, after 1 week, it would only power on maybe 50% of the time. Sometimes it would kinda come on, then try to reset itself, and even then only sometimes fully power on. Searching online, this appears to be a relatively common failure mode for shuttle pc's. I'm sad. I wanted to restock it, and get a different small PC package, but Newegg says only replacement available... bummer... hope the next one works.

5 out of 5 eggsJust one of those things

Pros: Great SFF. Design is simple to install and relatively easy to troubleshoot. Just some points to remember.
1. If you install winxp make sure Sata is set to IDE
2. Install each driver that comes with the disc individually. The auto-install had crashes. And drivers would not load properly.
3. Check if your RAM is working go to start/accessories/system information and check if all your RAM is registering. Properties of MyComputer only tells you the RAM available.
4. Use the USB 3.0 slot for your k/board and mouse.
Install only took around an hour after windows was loaded. Runs quiet as a church mouse.

Cons: Would have liked an available 3.5" drive with this model and price.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid build

Pros: Detailed user manual makes it easy to assemble. Very solid barebone. I use it to install Fedora on it and things work out of the box.

Cons: As others point out, the optical drive button on the panel is too close to the power button. Besides it will be ideal if it has card readers and HDMI onboard.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Everything went together smoothly. Posted first time. Installed Win 8 without any problems. Small size fit perfectly in a media cabinet.

Cons: Can be tricky to put together if you don't take your time.

Other Thoughts: I pulled a G620 and a GTX 460 from an old build and put it in this shuttle box for a HTPC/Light gaming machine hooked up to a 1080p TV with Windows 8. Everything worked fine, and I have had no problems with it.

2 out of 5 eggsThe new shuttles are super finiky about ram

Pros: used to be high quality.
like the form factor

Cons: I have built several of these but the last two built on this case have both failed to post with the original ram i purchased. one was on the recommended list and one wasn't. i think these boards in this thing are quite unstable..:(

Other Thoughts: Going to shift away from shuttle if these issues persist.

5 out of 5 eggsNice, but there are snags

Pros: Small, quiet, and very well put together.

Three heat pipes come from the CPU to a reasonable radiator at the back of the case, an 80mm fan mounts right in front of that.

SATA cables are tied down and routed to where they are needed.

Cons: Connectors to hold the cooler in place weren't obvious in their use and are based on expanding nylon pegs through the motherboard rather than screws.

Optimized BIOS defaults wouldn't run with Windows XP

Power switch is way too close to the CD/DVD eject button.

Other Thoughts: Booting an installed copy of XP consistently failed and rebooted, the XP installer from CD halted before entering Windows or copying files to the hard drive. Using the STOP ERROR I was able to determine the problem as the SATA mode chosen. The defaults are to use AHCI, it needs to be IDE.
