Pros: Went to 4GB today; it didn't improve boot up speed much, at all. Still a lovely machine, and 110 sec. cold boot probably seems slow, because the rig never makes any sound, nor is there an HDD activity light, optical drive, etc. Obviously, lotsa programs run much more nicely with 4GB.

Cons: Slow cold boot off SDHC Class 10.

Pros: Unit's heavy base keeps it from toppling. “Kensington” laptop lock slot is hidden on rear of chassis; this box could blow away. It stays nice and cool (62 hour burn-in, and counting). It uses DDR3 1066 (AKA: PC3 8500, 204-Pin) memory. The stuff is sold as “laptop” memory. There are two slots; Shuttle's specs. say the slots max. out at 2GB each. It has an HDMI output, unlike the V2.

Cons: An optimized (No GRUB, no startups, various swap sizes, etc.) Ubuntu 12.04 cold boot takes 110 secs. off Class 10 SDHC card in reader. I'm about to upgrade to 4GB RAM; I'll check back. It ships with Realtek's 8188CE WLAN, and Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't find it. You can download a remedy driver from realtek.com, but you'll have to compile it.

Other Thoughts: It is a bit odd looking. (It's fanless, so the whole rig functions as a huge heat-sink.)

Pros: The system is great and I would recommend most of the other shuttle system with a similar design though I would get one with the ATI video card.

Cons: The Intel Graphics card does not support Windows 8 or Windows 7 x64 and there does not appear to be any future support for these OS's by Intel.

Pros: This is a great little box to use is tight spaces, in a warehouse (or dirty) environment, or as light PC. You can get an SSD and have NO moving parts in the system.
Throw in $25 worth of RAM (4GB) and you are good to go.

Cons: Like other people stated, it doesnt support Linux. It only supports windows 7 32bit.
HOWEVER, that is not a reason to give it 1 star. If people read the description of the item, they would know that.

Other Thoughts: This is a nice box and can gave a fully functional machine for about $350 (including the Windows license). I highly recommend it.

Pros: Might work for windows, don't know I did not try it

Cons: Don't buy this is you want to install linux. There is no video or network driver for linux for this chipset

Pros: Small.. easy to work with and very quiet!

Cons: If you purchased this like I did for a linux server, please be aware that you're going to have a nerve racking time of getting the NIC to work (either one of them). The JMC251 is not only super out of date with it's drivers it's also next to impossible to get working with Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian and pretty much all the server OSes except Windows. Windows does seem to work fine with the NIC, but unfortunately I didn't realize that I would have such a hard time or I would have purchased another unit.

While this may seem like the fault of the Linux devs, I would say that it also falls on to Shuttle for not building this thing with a better NIC. Anything but this horribly sub-par chipset. I have spent a good part of this afternoon trying to get this to work. I am extremely close to returning this to newegg and never buying another Shuttle again. The absolute frustration I have for this device has turned me so far off of Shuttle as a company.

Other Thoughts: I've heard that desktop versions of Linux seem to work, but since that's not what I purchased this for (my plans were a mini web server). It is literally doing me no good.

Pros: I got this with an SSD drive, so this is not just quiet, it is absolutely silent (except when the CD/DVD is running-- the only moving part). It is also very small; the whole thing is the size of a standard DVD drive. The case is laid out nicely and installation of the hard drive, RAM, and dvd was easy. It seems quite fast. Liknux (debian testing) recognized everything and palyed nicely, except for the display. This is my third Shuttle box, and all have been reliable. The fanless design is well-done, temperatures are better than my office machine, which has a slightly faster cpu, but has 3 fans.

Cons: The video card, a GMA 3650 (Intel-labeled) is poorly supported in linux, at least so far. I finally gave up on using my new widescreen monitor, and went back to my old Sony with a 1240x1024 resolution which the linux drivers could handle. This also has no acceleration, so videos may not be so great. There are hacks for linux 32-bit systems, but I want to keep it a 64-bit OS since I do a lot of computations. I am confident that eventually there will be drivers that work, but those in the new 3.4.10 linux kernel did not help.

Also, Newegg should be more careful about the bundles they suggest with this. The webpage suggests you buy a 3.5" hard drive and a standard-size dvd, neither of which will fit. The hard-drive bay is 2.5" and the dvd bay is only for slimline drives.

Other Thoughts: This is a very nice, very small computer. Not a gamer's box, but nice for general communications, writing, etc.
