- Pros: I’m really excited about this little gem. I was pumping HIGH ANXIETY about putting it together but everthing was pretty much a piece of cake. My legacy (circa: 1990) floppy didn’t seem to like the C3 (e.g., black screen of death for no reason). Once I pulled the floppy I easily installed Win2000, Firefox, IE6, SP4 and it all seems very stable now. Point of interest: Without a floppy I wasn’t sure how I could update drivers….found out it can be done easily from a USB thumb drive. My Ethernet fired up right away….I figured that would be a nightmere, it wasn’t. I’m using the second 5.25 bay as a removable boot drive location using a Kingwin KF21-IPF Mobile Rack. It’s very slick. Run 5 different hard drives on my IBM machine and will set up a like number to run off the C3. Needless to say I am a tech neophyte but I had a blast playing with this system and getting it running. Kudos to NewEgg for their outstanding service.
- Cons: The case can get a little crowded. I may change the ribbon cables for rounded ones. You have to be a little careful when you "fold" the case closed to be sure nothing gets mashed...I think thats what happened to my floppy drive cable.
- Other Thoughts: If you're just hanging out getting old (I'm 75) get one of these c3's. It's just a blast. Give one to your grandaughter.....she'll be impressed.
- Pros: Very Quiet, Win89 legacy support.
- Cons: Only 800mhz CPU, but at this price... can't complain!
- Other Thoughts: First one was DOA, see post below. This one runs fine. Needed a low end computer for a client to run Win98 OS with one DB-9 serial port and one DB-25 parallel port. This little Barebones fit the bill perfectly. For a low end basic computer, it would be pretty hard to beat this unit with pretty much everything built-in. Oh, you can use less expensive DDR333 & DDR400 memory in this barebones, it will default to DDR266 speed- save a few $$.
