5 out of 5 eggsGreat Machine, but a little small?

Pros: Low power consumption, very quiet

Cons: Very restrictive case

Other Thoughts: I have had this running as a server/torrent box for 3-4 weeks...server 2003. Not a problem with it so far. It not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination but that is not what I bought it for. The case is a little restrictive. I have a load of spare drives lying about. Has any one tried putting it in a larger case?

5 out of 5 eggsNice Little System

Pros: Compact, low cost, lots of connectors for expansion. I use 2 of these to run Linux file servers and do backups. Have been solid. Can put power supply fan in smart mode and the box is nearly quiet.

Cons: The CPU is a VIA design which is not a recent x86. Not all recent stock Linux kernels will boot on it. I had good luck with the latest Fedora.

4 out of 5 eggsgood system for the $$

Pros: all in one pacjkage. Only thing that would have made it better whould have been a Gig of built-in RAM!
good basic PC for a teen or other starter PC catagory user.

Cons: hard to work on.
tight fit to EVERYTHING!!
I'm not 5' 1" at 105 Pounds so I don't fit too well inside these small form factor PC chasis

Other Thoughts: gonna get some more for other customers

3 out of 5 eggsbuy it only if you need a NAS

Pros: It is probably good for a NAS. It consumes relatively little power, but not as little as some of the reviewers claim. My machine draws 43 watts when idle and 50 watts when loaded. Also, the fan speed can be adjusted with some third-party program.

Cons: very slow, slower than my old dell PII 350mhz machine. Disabling the on-board audio made no difference. Q-fan not useful at all. Installation uses the screwdriver a lot. Asus modified the system but did not update the manual, which is confusing. Also, my machine did not come well sealed. Ugly beige color. no reset button.

5 out of 5 eggsWeb Server

Pros: I needed a web server and had no budget for one - but I have a whole bunch of PC2100 x 256MB, and a stack of 40GB IDE's not to mention a huge pile of cd drives. Installed W2k server w/IIS 5.0. Now the students at my school have there own "MySpace". For the amount of traffic it will ever get it works just dandy.

Cons: None for what I'm using it for.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I have your basic A+ background and needed to replace my wife’s blown Socket A system. She never really did much other than surf and email so I felt this new box should do it. The booklet is clear and simple. I installed the old sound card, memory, CDROM and AS IS hard drive from my old box, powered up, immediately went to setup to change the system clock, disable onboard sound and boot options, then booted from the XP Pro OS disk to repair the OS partition. XP clanked away for about 45 minutes and presto, just like new. Worked so well it scared me.

I need to get another one and put a dumb terminal in the kitchen.

Cons: No floppy option but hey, who uses them any more!

4 out of 5 eggsInexpensive low-power desktop/file server

Pros: This machine has a truly compact design with a small power footprint. Provides support for 4 IDE and 2 SATA drives, plus 4 USB (2 front and 2 back) for external drives and devices.

Cons: Support for only 2GB RAM, 10245x768 display resolution via the VGA port from the VIA UniChrome chipset. Photo gallery shows 2 expansion slots on the back of the case, but only one PCI slot on the motherboard -- this is slightly misleading.

Other Thoughts: I have this unit running Windows Home Server (based off Server 2003 kernel), and it has more than enough processing power to act as a file and backup server.

5 out of 5 eggsAn excellent machine

Pros: Run Ubuntu 7.10 out of the box. Quiet. May disconnect case fan, as it does not seem to need it. Simple, with great bang for the buck.

Cons: Make it a black case. Smaller case would be nice too, as most people will not put four drives in this baby. Make it so that you don't need mods to get an extra HDD in there (just a simple extra hole or two for screws would do it). May buy another just to play with. Bravo!

5 out of 5 eggsBuild your hone server in 15 minutes

Pros: I built my server using this PC and a software package called ezblue business server. All I needed is to add a 512mb and 250gb drive. I also added a CD drive. So for about $300 total software and hardware I built my server which it would have cost me $2500. newegg is the place to shop.

Cons: No CD drive, space for only two hard drives. you need a spacer to mount the second drive. newegg has it. I had to pay $12 for the CD drive and 10 for the spacer.
I think they should included the CD Drive.

Other Thoughts: I didn’t want to spend lots of money or learn some technical mambo jumbo to do build a server. I also didn’t want to use windows for my server. I have enough trouble keeping my XP from crashing everyday. This PC and the EZblue software server is what I was looking for. It is an All-In-One server. All I had to do is install it on this PC. I followed the steps in the Quick Start Guide that came with the software. I was up and running in few minutes. It is that simple.
