1 out of 5 eggsBad Support Experience with Asus

Pros: Small lightweight, easy to assemble hardware.

Cons: I purchased my bare bones system less than 3 years ago and it finally died. I think my mobo died. I tried calling the Asus support to see if my system is still under warranty. No help at all when support finally came on the phone. They told me they had no knowledge if it was still under warranty.

Other Thoughts: I went ahead and ordered a new mobo due to their substandard customer service that Asus provided. They gave me the run around. I had all paper work ready for them to verify to see if my warranty was still in effect. They gave me no info.

5 out of 5 eggsPretty Decent

Pros: Price, size and functions. Very quick and easy to put together. Not by any means a high-end gaming rig, but a very good rig for business purposes.

Cons: I like a small and compact layout, but it seems like the space could have been utilized a little bit better. The area behind the front vent seems wasted, especially since it doesn't come with an 80 mm fan mounted there... no big deal though, installed one myself and it was pretty painless.
Also, I had to remove the side panel shroud to accommodate the cpu heatsink... again, painless, but worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts: I've been building computers for awhile now, but this is my first barebones rig that I've assembled.
x64 6400 3.2 GHZ
2 Gigs of OCZ 800 Mhz
x2 80 Gig SATA Hitachis' in raid 1
IDE DVD Burner.
Runs great. Cool and quiet, and very stable under xp pro. Easy to work with. Would have no problems recommending.

4 out of 5 eggsSame problem. Good for price though

Pros: Good price for what you get. Nice to not have to hook all of the connectors up and mount the board etc, just drop cpu, ram etc in, rinse, lather, repeat. Nice quality for price too.

Cons: First box was DOA. Had to clear CMOS each time rebooted/powered up. Sent back for RMA. Second box (like Nick mentioned) Only one ram socket worked (inside one). RAM was good, worked in first box, either stick will work in inside socket neither will work in outside socket. Just flashing yellow panel light when powered on. Latest BIOS. Nick I wonder if I got yours? Sure I could send it back, but I guess 2gb will work.

Other Thoughts: Trying to build a green box, went with 45w am2 cpu (whatever the top of the line cpu that is in that class). Used onboard raid with two 32gb Patriot ssd drives striped. OMF-ingG!!!! This is a fast setup!!! No seek time!!! WOW!!!! Highly suggested. Leave your long term data on an external drive and power up when needed. :-) BE GREEN!!!

4 out of 5 eggsGreat System For the Price

Pros: Works great out of the box, I had no issues setting this up and installing everything.

Cons: The onboard graphics does not work for games BUT you can add a graphics card at little cost that will work for games and have dual monitors! I did this and it works great!@

Other Thoughts: I am the cheap pragmatic type and this product definitely "got it done" for me and my Worlds of Warcraft addiction after adding the video card.

5 out of 5 eggsWDP

Pros: Have put together many barebones like ASUS, MSI, Shuttle and others. For the price, this one tops them all. Not a gamer but does most everything else well. Installed XP Pro, and linux fedora 10 dual boot with ease. The drivers supplied installed without error. I'll buy some more soon. Used the AMD Athlon X2 Brisbane, 4 gb memory.

Cons: None so far

2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: nice setup...Have been building ASUS barebones for a long time now..usually very reliable..and cool running..x2-4600 running at 34C...

Cons: will not run an internal card reader...hooked up two different card readers and got the same error message on both..looked for a bios update and there are no bios updates..Ran in to the same problem with another ASUS barebones that came with a built in reader, and the bios update fixed that problem...

Other Thoughts: The ASUS line of Barebones are well thought out and very easy to get up and running...My personal computer is an Asus running an FX55 with 2 gigs of ram, and it is the first computer that I have used for more than 6 months ..I usually build them and then sell them after 4 or 5 months

4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: cheap. solid.

Cons: can't put in an IDE cdrom drive. has to be sata.

the way to hook up PCI drives is very annoying. I never figured out how and just took apart my linksys wireless adaptor. good thing this isn't a gaming PC, i don't think I would ever be able to get a graphics card in this.

Other Thoughts: This was my first barebones. I've built systems before, and it was nice not to have to mount the motherboard. but, i think it would be better to just build it all yourself rather then settle for this. unless you want cheap, like i did, for a PC in your kitchen for emails and recipies.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the headache

Pros: Cheap.

Cons: Could only get one of the two memory sockets to work.

Tried flashing the ROM but turned out it had the latest BIOS already.

This is the second box that has exactly the same symptoms. I returned the previous one on the advice of ASUS chat support. They said that even if it doesn't work with two memory sticks, it should work with one stick in either socket.

Strangely enough it is the same socket that doesn't work on this box. I will return this and get something else.
