4 out of 5 eggsUsed as media player

Pros: I installed openELEC on this machine, using some memory I already had and a 4GB flash drive as the only storage.

Plays movies and streaming media quite well over wired Ethernet

Cons: getting the case open to install memory requires some care and patience.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for the money!

Pros: First things first, read "Other Thoughts" as Newegg's description is wrong.

Lots of USB ports, eSata port, HDMI, wifi, tiny, quiet.

I use this as an HTPC running XBMC Live with a WD Scorpio Blue 500gb hard drive, and 4 gigs of DDR800 ram. My media is on a 3tb external drive. This thing is so small and quiet you never know it's there. Turn it on, boots straight into XBMC in a few seconds, and I'm enjoying movies and shows.

This thing handles any content I've thrown at it without a hitch!

Best used as an HTPC or a small PC to get your parents on the internet, and for that it performs beautifully.

Cons: That awfully bright blue LED on the front, what is with companies putting extremely bright LEDs on their hardware. No option for a slim internal optical drive, but honestly I'd rather have the smaller size.

Other Thoughts: These barebones kits do not have USB 3.0 ports like their complete counterparts.

If you want to play 1080p content, you will need a player or media center with hardware acceleration. In XBMC I can play 720p content fine without hardware acceleration, but 1080p is like watching a stop motion movie at a few frames a second. With hardware acceleration everything is perfect. Make sure you install the latest driver from Nvidia as well. Streaming HD is can be iffy, but that's an issue no matter how powerful the PC is. Great buy, best $130 I've spent in a long time(bought mine as an open box).

Also, if you're looking to get a low power HTPC like this and don't choose this particular one, make sure you get something with an Nvidia GPU.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Box! 1080p streaming?...maybe not

Pros: Next-gen Nvidia Ion, Low Price, USB 3.0 and eSATA, great form factor

Cons: I can't for the life of me get 1080p to play from this box properly. About 80% of MKV and AVI 1080p files play ok (but only through Media Player Classic - couldn't get VLC to play anything HD at all 720p or 1080p) (choppy). Streaming 1080p from YouTube was impossible. Still trying to work out the kinks.

Other Thoughts: I'll save this section for any updates I have on performance: -------------------------------------------------------------------

- Asus EeeBox PC EB1012P
- Windows 7 Ultimate x64
- 120 GB SSD
- G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 800 (N82E16820231156)

Downloaded latest service pack, latest drivers, latest directx, latest VLC and MPC

4 out of 5 eggsComplete Media Center

Pros: The size of this pc is perfect for it's purpose. The easy mount that it comes with allows mounting on most flat screens and TVs. Very quiet and the 1080 view is awesome.

Cons: It's a little slower than I'd like when lunching Media Center but It's a cool running low power device. I think that the price could reflect barebones a little better.

Other Thoughts: I have two of these little computers mouted on TV's in the house and coupled with the Ceton tuner, I'm able to watch cable encrypted TV and access all Windows 7 Media Center features. I also added a Media Center remote to allow for channel changes and viewing of other Media Center features such as Netflix. I entend to buy two more.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great but I'm not sure about USB 3.0

Pros: D510, Next Gen ION, up to 4GB DDR2 800, Handles Flash and HD Content Superbly, HDMI, SPDIF out although adapter Not included, Small form factor with low heat generation, and comes with a VESA mount.

Cons: Only con I can see is that is doesn't have and IR Port for windows media center remote. Oh and I'm not sure this thing has USB 3.0 Ports there not blue and don't look any different than the USB 2.0 Ports.

Other Thoughts: With 4GB DDR2 800Mhz and 250GB 7200rpm Samsung HDD, this a relatively snappy little machine. I use it to watch HULU and Netflix along with movies on my Home Theater and it doesn't skip a beat. But can anyone confirm whether this has USB 3.0?

4 out of 5 eggsesata Port Multiplier???

Pros: Small form factor. Really quiet. Plays 1080p video.

Cons: ASUS Customer Support. No where was it documented if the esata port supported port multiplier. I'm interested in this feature to turn the eb1012p into a file server using a external esata enclosure. I had contacted ASUS support 3 times for an answer.

1. The analyst told me my product was not supported before I even told them what product I was calling about.

2. Second analysts put me on hold for 2 minutes then came back and told me yes it does support this feature

3. I had emailed their customer service to complain about the fist call and they told me that the product does not support this feature because they have not tested it.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this originally as a front end media center. As that I have no complaints. Does everything I need it to do and more.

I picked Asus over some of the other lesser known brand names because I was under the impression ASUS had some what good technical support.
