Foxconn is leading a new trend towards USFF (Utra Small Form Factor) systems with the R10-S4 miniature barebone. This tiny system measures only 282mm x 95mm x 315mm so it'll fit just about anywhere, yet it has all the features you need to work, or play, efficiently.
Featuring the 45nm dual-core Intel Atom processor 330 and Intel 945GC Express Chipset, the R10-S4 is an energy-efficient solution for building up your small home file server, or a computer for remote-backup, etc. 2GB of RAM will ensure that all of your programs run without a hitch while the SATA connectors let you achieve high-speed data transfers with no bottlenecks. Integrated fast Ethernet LAN lets you connect to other systems on your network at broadband speeds. An additional PCI slot adds extra options for expanding your system.
Using a fan-less passive cooling design, this system operates at full speed with nearly negligible noise. Foxconn's R10-S4 is a real superstar in a tiny package!

great for the $$$
- Pros: quiet, energy efficient, smallish (although not at all the smallest of the Atom based barebones), 1 PCI slot, inexpensive. Whole system with optical drive/ram/and HDD can be had for around $200
- Cons: Only 2 SATA ports, 2GB Max RAM
- Other Thoughts: Purchased this for my wife who really appreciates 'green' technology, to replace her aging Athlon x64. She primarily uses it to surf and use MS office apps, so she's quite happy with the performance now that it has Windows 7 installed.
Of note-- there is an external 1/2 depth 3.5" bay that is fine for installing a multi-card reader, which is what I did-- it doesn't require disabling any USB ports as it will attach to the spare header.
iATKOS 10.5.7 *****
- Pros: Nice clean Foxconn POST screen, Bios is very simple and straight forward. 8 USB 2.0 ports. Runs Fast/Cool/Silent. Comes with good instructions with pictures. Comes with 220 Euro Style Power Plug cool, never seen one before, and standard 120v for People that live in the US. It has Onboard PC Speaker. Quality Built Mini ITX board made with good parts Choke coils/Capacitors/Voltage Regulators. Case is black and Power Coated for a Durable Finish, Solid well made construction similar to something from Antec. Good Quality Power Supply, Wires are thick connectors are sturdy, The PSU provides clean consistent power, no screeching or squeals. The PSU and the onboard FAN work as a team to evacuate all the heat from the case, they do a good job. Everything Surrounding this product including the power button is made with quality in mind.
- Cons: You have to Turn Hyper Threading off in the bios, if you don't osx will panic at boot.
- Other Thoughts: using imovie 06 HD for video editing, using all the rest of the ilife apps from version '09, Choose GMA950 Desktop version. other then that install run software update for safari 4.0 and enjoy,

Mine did not work.
- Pros: Small, cheap, nice idea, would most likely be very happy if it worked.
- Cons: Mine does not work. Used recomended Kingston RAM, Memtest does not recognize as 533. Tried auto and manual configs, no change. RMA RAM to Kingston, replacement does same thing.
When installing OS, get a drive failure. Tried Ubuntu, Fedora and XP. Same result. Also tried 3 diferent drives.
Flashed to newest BIOS. No change.
Here is the biggest complaint. I emailed Foxcon tech support (in case I'm missing something) and got no response. None. Nada. Nothing.
ION based boards are getting cheaper (and have much better graphics), Foxcon does not have a monopoly. I do not believe I will be dealing with this company again.
All small and mighty
- Pros: Impressive video and network for integrated components, better than my 2 year old GigaByte board. Would highly recommend that 2GB memory stick is used.
- Cons: doesn't have room for 2nd optical or hard drive, but that goes with the form factor. Expansion is avail thru external usb drives
Great Barebones
- Pros: I bought this to replace my daughter’s old system. She is no power user so I thought this was a good buy for the money. Small footprint, easy HD, Memory and OD install. Build time 30min. More than I expected in a low cost barebones system.
