1 out of 5 eggsproblems out of the box

Pros: cheap price

Cons: Wouldn't POST out of the box, tried various DRAM until I finally got it to POST. It had just clicked then shut down. Checked power supply and it was set at 115V. Finally got it to POST consistently with a 1GB stick, but if I attached a DVD drive or hard drive, it again wouldn't POST. Looks like this is going back to Foxconn

Other Thoughts: We'll see how Foxconn customer support is... will be calling them during the week.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Little System

Pros: It's small and pretty peppy for being an Atom machine.

Cons: It can be a tight squeeze if you do put a disc drive in it.

Other Thoughts: I'm using it as a media server and general data server which is working great!

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect home server with Linux (CentOS 5.5)

Pros: 1. Small, quiet, power efficient, runs Linux (CentOS 5.4 and 5.5) out of box without anything needed.
2. Gigabit ethernet
3. one PCI slot for future expension (would be nice to be PCIE)
4. Atom dual core processor with hyper-threading support.
5. Supports 4-GByte RAM

Cons: 1. Only 2 SATA 3Gb connectors.
2. only 1 3.5" drive bay and 1 5.25" drive bay available. The other (external one) is too short for hard drive, but OK for card readers. It would be nice to have a drive bay on top of the CPU.
3. no ESATA port.
4. no HDMI video out. Please replace the VGA out with HDMI
5. comes with Serial and Parallel ports. Why? Please get rid of them!
6. only USB2 ports, no USB3.

Other Thoughts: First of all, people who have problems with the machine (such as random shutdown, etc), please check the power supply. It is set to 230V by default (by mistake at the factory?). It should be set to 110V in the USA.
Secondly, people should buy low-profile DDR2 memory for this machine. Memories with tall heat sinks will not fit. I bought the G.Skill F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ (PC2 6400 CL5-5-5-15 4-Gbyte dual channel kit). And it works perfectly with this little toy box. The BIOS sets at 677MHZ, I reset it 800Mhz as it should.
It's a very nice machine with Linux (CentOS 5.x) as a file server. I install two hard drives (WD 500GB as primary boot drive), and Hitachi 3TB as data drive. It's configured as NAS and shares my lazer printer as well. the 3TB drive needs to format as ext3 file system, and needs to use parted to partition the drive, if you want a single 3TB volume.

3 out of 5 eggsit's Alive! nvm it died again..

Pros: I have built one of these before and everything worked great. On this one everything looked to be in good shape but no dice.

Cons: The machine randomly shuts down with no Windows errors whatsoever. I loaded Windows & home on it. That process took a couple hours because the system kept shutting down in all different phases of the install. After Windows was loaded, I tested the system for a few hours with no issue. All at once the system started randomly shutting down again...it's running kool and the memory and HD tested fine....

Other Thoughts: sombody burned the box on me so when I sent it back in a different box to newegg they wouldn't accept it. It has now been over 2 weeks since the start of the process and my customer is really upset about it. Hopefully Foxconn support won't be a nightmare.

5 out of 5 eggshas made a great server

Pros: It works well and has the features I want. The dual atom processor is a sturdy performer. The package is efficient in terms of size and power usage. The power supply is one that could be replaced from Newegg.

Cons: The onboard ethernet was unreliable for me using linux, and I bought an Intel low profile card that has worked perfectly. The case is small, and so you are packing a lot of things in there. The two 3.5 in hard drives went in there though.

Other Thoughts: I used this to build a server, and it has worked very well. I used two Samsung 1 TB hard drives, 4 GB of G.Skill DDR2 800 memory, and an Intel PCI PRO/1000 GT Low Profile card. The OS was SME 7 (a Redhat/CentOS based distribution). A USB CD drive was used just for the install.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat on-line serverand Deskto[

Pros: Quiet, Small outline case, has all the basic peripherals on board.
Replaced my 10 year old servers on-line with these and so far they work great. Purchased a 160G and 300G SATA drive and DVD reader. Loads RH Enterprise Linux 5.xx with no problem. Using them as a web server all peripherals are supported with RHEL-5.

Cons: The power switch is on the side and easy to turn off.
The DVD ROM should be a short one in order to fit in the case if you purchase standard memory. If you purchase low profile memory all is fine.

Other Thoughts: For a standard desktop unit for a small business these are a great buy.
