5 out of 5 eggsI Love it when a plan comes together!

Pros: Lets count the Eggs, shall we?

1. Boots very Quickly.
2. Runs extremely cool, and quiet, was very surprised.
3. Sexy blue neon bar and various light indicators glow when in use (including SD cards- nice touch)
4. Nice design, looks great in the vertical or horizontal position.
5. If you can read and can follow along with the pictures putting the system together was a snap.

Lets see did I forget anything...Hmnnn.. oh yea

6. , 7. , 8. , 9. , 10. Got this Barebones on a ridiculous deal if you paid more than 76 dollars you paid more than I did that included Shipping.

Cons: It was mentioned before, and was true!! When installing memory, HD, DVD etc. I handled the unit like it was a baby. Yet two tabs that hold on the front Bezel literally fell off. I lifted the unit up and the first tab was on the table the second tab fell off while lifting...

Booo!! Very poor design here. MINUS 2 EGGS FOR EACH TAB!

It does not effect the front Bezel staying on though vertically or horizontally ( you dont even notice it when its flat).

Other Thoughts: Other reviews complaining about size of the inside of this unit are way off! Yes it is tight, but if you have ever built a PC before and know what your doing this set up is a breeze. Like I said if you can read and follow allong with the big picture "map like" instructions you cant go wrong.

As for the heat spreader memory issue. I had (2) PNY Optima 1GB DDR2 Memory sticks in my PC lab, the heat spreader clamp on and barely go over the top of the memory modules. So when I installed the DVD ROM over the top of it I had a few MM to spare (hehe).

Set up:

SFF R40-D4 Intel Atom D525(1.8GHz, Dual-core)
(2) 1GB PNY Optima Memory DDR2
Lite-On 24 X iHAS424-98
Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 3.5" SATA 3.0 Gb/s
ASUS VH236H Black 23" 2ms Full HD Widescreen LCD

4 out of 5 eggsGreat little Linux Box

Pros: EZ setup only need a Phillips driver
Built-in Card Reader
Silent {sorry, mine is not noisy. Fan set to PWM)
Ubuntu 10 is fast & runs flawlessly on 2GB (DDR2-667) RAM.
bought on sale for half -price w/ free ship.

Cons: VGA only: Intel GMA 3150 is not the best.
No inexpensive PCI video upgrade found, yet ;^o
1x PCI Slot (LP only)
150W PSU
RAM & HD are not included (yes, I'm a cheep-geek!)

Other Thoughts: MB is the Foxconn D52S, manual available on their website.

I don't care about an optical drive. Hi-Cap USB Flash drives get cheaper everyday. I've been using them for video on my Mini-9 for ages,
4 to 6 rips per 16GB stick. Linux installs from a 4GB, OS X on an 8GB.

btw, I can confirm Kingston ValueRAM 2GB (2x1GB 667) 240-Pin (N82E16820134046) is compatible with this board.

The recent sale made this purchase a true "no-brainer"

1 out of 5 eggsCard Reader Defective

Pros: Low power consumption, beautiful computer

Cons: Unable to install operating system either XP or Linux. Called Foxconn, they told me to isolate card reader by unplugging card reader cables from motherboard header. It worked fine without card reader connection to motherboard. Foxconn US operation has elevated this issue to their Headquarter in China to resolve this issues. Anybody who buys this item please do somework. Newegg offered to take this barebone back but waiting for technical support to come up with solution, if not then return this product.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Sorry for the inconvenience.
We will care about this issue continually ,if there have any solution ,we will inform you in time. And we will improve our products in the future.
Thank you very much for your feedback.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat low cost machine

Pros: Small, quiet, fast for a low-cost machine.

Cons: Not much room for expansion but hey what do you expect?

Other Thoughts: Currently own 4 of these at our business and use them for many things. Have had Server 2008, Server 2003, XP, Vista, 7, and Linux running on these with no real issues. Run stable and fast. Will be buying more in the future!

5 out of 5 eggsFoxconn Barebone 3150

Pros: Excellent value. small footprint. very fast.

Cons: old processor, louder than expected, still not too bad.

Other Thoughts: DVD ROM fits fine in the slot. some drivers, i believe are longer than others which may block the memory. good price @ $ 75.

3 out of 5 eggsNice little Home Server - but takes a slim DVD ROm drive

Pros: Small footprint, low energy cost, very affordable. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate without a hitch. Worked first time. Use it for Home Server and torrents and it works like a dream for me.

Cons: Won't take a full size DVD ROM drive.

Other Thoughts: Because it's not designed to take a full size DVD ROM drive I have to buy a slim version, which is much, much more expensive than the full size, and costs almost as much as the barebone itself, making it a not-so-cheap solution as I originally thought. So I can only give it 3 stars.

4 out of 5 eggsBig plans for a tiny package...

Pros: lightwieght (relatively) but not cheap-feeling, dual-core Atom (low-power) processor, and the internal design is good for being such a small form factor. The Card reader and optical drive are both on the same removable caddy. Got it on sale! This, 2 X 2GB @800mhz (gskill), and one 1TB drive totaled ~270 bucks!

Cons: Description could be misleading... It lists two 3.25" bays inside, but the one that is ("fit for CR") fit for the pre-installed card reader cannot be used for a second drive (runs into the long power supply). You will have to use the optical drive bay if you want a couple HDDs in this (in RAID 0/1 perhaps). Also, note the fact that there are no hard drives and no RAM included when considering purchasing.

Other Thoughts: I plan to be using this as a home server running linux. I put the max amount of RAM in (4GB). After some searching, RAID 0/1 is supposed to be supported by the motherboard and its two sata ports, but as mentioned above, you will not be able to put an optical drive inside. I would recommend using this as an alternative to a NAS/home server/ftp server/etc., if you don't plan to have an optical drive. Having something like this opens up many more options than having a NAS. I will update if I am unsuccessful in RAIDing two 1TB WD1001FALS drives with this mobo.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat Little Compy

Pros: Got this for a basic office computer. Boots quick and runs XP nicely. Runs quiet. That bar you see in the middle of the bezel lights up in a cool blue color when its on.

Cons: The lower clips on the front bezel can be easy to break. I broke one of them despite much care. Thankfully it didn't affect the bezel laying flat and staying in place.

No real listing on the Foxconn website, so don't loose that driver CD it comes with! Only R40-D2 is listed in the driver section.

I bought it days before it went free shipping and on sale :(

Other Thoughts: The CD drive was a bear to get in the right position. Took me 3 attempts ( one for each offset >.< ) to get it where it needed to be. Center one was the winner.

VERY IMPORTANT. Do not buy ram that has any kind of heat spreader or the like, or you will have clearance issues with the CD drive over hang.
