2 out of 5 eggsSevere overheating on video playback

Pros: - Nice compact case
- Lots of ports
- Wifi n
- Plays 1080p video without hiccups

Cons: Overheats severely during video playback with XBMC on Windows 7. Apparently, this is a known issue with Zotac GPUs. System overheats and freezes about 1hr into playback.

Sent in for RMA, hopefully the replacement works better.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat machine

Pros: Very small size, very cheap, very quiet. I bought this as a 'test' system to install in my bedroom before getting them for the rest of the TVs in the house. Tested a 720p mkv file in VLC last night and it was perfect, although youtube was not so good fullscreen-probably a hardware acceleration issue with Flash on Linux

Cons: Horrible WIFI. Not a big deal for me, because I have multiple Cat6 drops in every room, but I tested it anyways and I was only getting 500kb/s with connections dropping and reconnecting (WRT350N AP is on far side of house, WPA2 using AES). My MacBook Pro 3 feet away was getting 10mb/s over wifi.

Other Thoughts: HDMI Audio is not super easy to configure for the layman - but this is not the fault of ZOTAC, linux is a highly configurable beast and exposes more 'stuff' to the user. Instead of fooling around I googled it and found all kinds of things saying to mess with modprobe.d files but I gave up and fooled with it anyways. I figured it out in about 5 minutes - in ubuntu 11.10 if you go into sound settings (go to Hardware and Output tabs) there's more than just 'HDMI Output' - I had 4 additional (n1 n2 n3 n4) options as opposed to just 'HDMI output', just find the correct one in the dropdown and you're done (mine was n2). Will come in handy

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for XBMC HTPC!

Pros: Just works out of the box. All you have to do is plug it in, and install your favourite OS and Media Center software. I went with Ubuntu/XBMC, and 1080p h264/mkv video plays without flaws with only 5% CPU usage. Its a little more expensive than other systems, but it mounted flawlessly to my TV and only has 2 wires: power and HDMI. Makes it easy to have a real slick looking setup.

Cons: I wish this bundle had a tiny solid state drive instead; just enough for an OS. Most people are using this for an HTPC and I think that would have made it even better.

Other Thoughts: Very happy with my purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Nice

Pros: size of course it the biggest pro for this unit but its also fast. Installed Win7 with no issues - very smooth install - very responsive at this point anyway. Let see what happens when I finish all my installations.

Cons: the blue light may be an issue - too bright - if you trying to watch a movie in the dark. It could probably be turned of...

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic HTPC

Pros: Compact, powerful handles HD video without a problem

Cons: very difficult to get sound working on Kubuntu/Ubuntu Linux you must install pulseaudio and mess with a few settings. Works great with XBMC media center

Other Thoughts: I bought this product believing it had a DVD+R/RW drive based on newegg's advertisement "Zotac ZBOXHD-ID40-PLUS Intel Atom D525 CPU 1.8 GHz Dual-Core Next-generation NVIDIA ION DVD+R/RW w/ 2GB RAM, 250G HDD, WiFi All-in-One Mini PC". Once i opened up the pc, i knew this machine could never house a dvd drive cause of space. I was disappointed, but it wasn't enough for me to return the product, i didnt deduct any eggs for this since this was the fault of neweggs advertising and not the product itself.
