3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I've tested this PC with the modern ROSA Desktop R5 Linux with KDE environment. The device has very outstanding "cosmic" design and looks like big DVD player. It can be hanged on the wall under your TV. It has the discrete video card NVIdia GT218 [ION] supported by 340.xx drivers.

The performance of the computer is enough to use Internet browser Firefox, watch videos via the ROSA Media Player and edit text in the Kate text editor without any problems. All devices on board are compatible with the Linux 3.14.25 and later.

The device can be easily opened to upgrade WiFi card and add more RAM memory. The back cover was made of metal.

I've tested the computer by the ROSA HW-Probe tool and got detailed list of devices on board and collected Linux system logs (dmidecode, biosdecode, acpidump, dmesg, Xorg.0.log, hwinfo, etc.). You can see computer details in the ROSA Hardware database.

Cons: The CPU is Atom CPU D525. It is slow relative to Celeron, Pentium or Core. But it's better, than, say, Atom N550. The basic amount of RAM memory installed was 1Gb. It's not enough for modern applications. So I've added 1Gb more. The maximum memory supported is 4Gb. You can see it in the dmidecode system log (and also other info about bios, slots and more).

Also I've upgraded internal cheap Ralink RT2790 Mini PCIe WiFi card to Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh]. The network connection is more stable and fast now.

Unfortunately, the BIOS doesn't support boot from flash drive. So, you need to boot OS from DVD, that is very slow.

4 out of 5 eggsShockingly Powerful

Pros: Was evaluating compact PC solutions for some kiosks and bought one of these to test out just how little power I could get away with and still run our software. Even with remote camera control, an added USB monitor (which hits the proc) and a printer, it ran like a champ with Win7 Pro.

I am pretty sure that if you wanted to run Hulu on your TV or stream other types of media this box would have no trouble.

Cons: 1GB of RAM and a 5400 RPM HD made me question if this could handle Win7. Of course for the price what do you expect? Anyway, those are the two things i would upgrade right away if I was doing something that needed more horsepower.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a cheap PC for light work, this thing is not a bad choice! I used to be skeptical of the atom based pcs but was pleasantly surprised to see that you can cover a lot of ground with a small form factor like this.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrible Customer service

Pros: Extremly SLOW

Cons: I upgraded to 4GB of RAM becuse it is horribly slow however the DVD drive didnt work when I received it so I sent it back for RMA. the unit they sent back only had 1GB of memory in it so I called them and they told me they have the memory but they wont send it to me unless I send back there HDD and the 1 GB of memory. I had asked them specificlly before I sent it if they were going to replace the DVD drive or the whole unit and they assured me they were just going to replace the part.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Perfectly

Pros: Very small. Gets the job done. I am able to play HD mkv/ blu-ray rips on my 52in sharp. This little guy even has some safe OC with the graphics card. Heat is around 60C. Upgraded to 4 GB of ram. running windows 7 ult x64.

Cons: Audio over hdmi is only 2 channels. Submitted the rebate for this when I bought it. Never heard or received anything from zotac.

Other Thoughts: The Orange ring on top is a little bright. Can be a little annoying but when I turn it off I feel that I am missing something. Maybe if it wasn't orange.

5 out of 5 eggsID31 DVD-Plus

Pros: Quiet, small, powerful enough

Cons: runs a little hot

Other Thoughts: I purchased this to use as my living room HTPC a little worried that it might be underpowered for my 1080p movies. I am extremely pleased with the results. I installed Openelec generic 1.0.2 and it plays absolutely everything with no jitters, no lags, no problems. I got mine on sale for $249 and wish I had bought two. I have it connected to a 50" plasma and it is great. Would highly recommend.

5 out of 5 eggsThis is an update to my earlier post regarding the HDMI sound problem.

Pros: HDMI works just great if you have installed the latest Nvidia drivers here for the graphics and the HDMI out audio and set audio to Nvidia.
Drivers can be downloaded below: (thanks to zotac tech pro advise)

Cons: None, Just not sure if it is a con, usb drives can only be booted via the esata/usb port. PXE booting does not work with the original BIOS.

4 out of 5 eggsHDMI no sound output

Pros: small, quiet, nicely constructed. Installed XP, runs perfectly smoothly, video quality is great with my 42" LG TV.

Cons: HDMI port has no sound, test the earphone port, it works fine.
Does anyone else encounter the same problem?
Considering an RMA, if I can not resolve the problem.

Other Thoughts: over all is great, except with the problem (HDMI)
