2 out of 5 eggsWindows Home Server

Pros: After initial install and understanding workaround to load Windows Home Server it worked fine. Added hard drives and moved files with ease.

Cons: Power supply died 1 year and 4 months after purchase and can't any information to replace it. Connectors on motherboard are different from standard ATX and Fujitsu doesn't sell replacement parts.

Other Thoughts: Is this a throw away server? Can't get any service from Fujitsu. No support what so ever.

5 out of 5 eggssuper buy!

Pros: well built little server, made in Germany. has 4 drive bays on swing-out door. wouldn't use more than 2 hd's unless upgrading the 250w PSU. installed WHS2011 on the included 250gb drive with NO problem. if the included disk doesn't work for that, use your head. running Forefront Endpoint Security for AV. not much else availble for WHS2011. for $299 & free shipping I can't complain.

Cons: not a big issue, but adding anything but OEM RAM gives a warranty violation error message upon bootup. would really like to get rid of that since the ECC RAM upgrade was expensive. one little dent in the corner of the swing-out door was due to foam packing & UPS.

Other Thoughts: no eSata port. installed an eSata PCI card that came free with a drive enclosure.
added 4gb ECC RAM.
super features & great performance compared to other name brand servers in same price range.

3 out of 5 eggsalways read the fine print

Pros: the product operates as specified by the owners manual.

Cons: the product does not work with Microsoft Home Server 2011 combo'ed with it. I suggest to anyone who buys a combo do not be rushed into buying it because of the low price, it might not work together.

Other Thoughts: I would like newegg to respond to me to work with me on my unsatisfied purchase.

5 out of 5 eggsThis onw has the 4 bay drive cage

Pros: Fantastic for a home server. There are six sata ports on the motherboard. You can easily put in 6 hard drives. Mine came with the 4 bay drive cage. It only has drive rails for two drives, so you will have to figure something out for the other drives.

I will install four drives in the swing out cage, plus a drive each in the 5.25 cdrom slots with simple 5.25 to 3.5 hard drive adapters. There is no need for a cdrom/dvdrom drive after you install the server OS.

there are also two internal 3.5 bays, but they look shorter for some reason...

I am planning to use Windows Home Server 2011 and will purchase Drive bender to add back in drive extender support.

This is a very well built server class machine. This is not a desktop repurposed.

Cons: Wish it had a more efficient processor. This generation of i3 is 73 watts TDP.

4 out of 5 eggsTop choice

Pros: Very well engineered machine. The German manufacturing shows. Great value for money.

Cons: Comes loaded with Red Hat. You will have to load Windows if you want to use it in that environment. Not a con in the strictest sense.

5 out of 5 eggsThe real story

Pros: -- Very good build quality and design
-- Excellent price
-- Very good performance
-- Nice design
-- Good documentation and feature set

Some real facts:

This server, the Fujitsu TX100 S2, is an incredible deal. Its successor, the TX S3 is another $100 more, and in my opinion, not worth the extra dollars. The other two name brand server folks, the Ds and the Hs, will run you at least 75% more, if you get them comparably equipped. Quality is the same among all three -- you'd be hard pressed to start splitting hairs. And, the Fujitsu is actually a joint Fujitsu-Siemens product, and includes both "Made in Germany" and "TüV" labels proudly displayed on the box.

This is a server, so expect that. Bullet proof build quality, no fancy frills, obscure drivers, solid square-edged design for corporate use. Gamers look elsewhere -- you'll do better with a different platform to start from.

Setup is a breeze -- the box comes with a DVD that has all the drivers you'll ever want, and t

Cons: -- Information is there, just buried a little deeply sometimes.
-- There is a heck, I mean a heck, of a lot of misinformation about this server posted here in the reviews and on the Internet in general.
-- Half the problem with setup was separating the wheat from the chaff.

How many hard drives? The swing out HD rack has 4 bays, but only two sets of proprietary drive rails. Simply zip-tie two additional drives into the empty bays -- it's that easy. Then, you can always cram more into the bays by the DVD, if you want to be more studly. Six total connectors available. Cabling is also sufficient to start you off easily with two drives.

I put in two Samsung HD204UI 2TB drives (yes the ones with the screwy firmware - see below), and am running a third as an external, transportable server backup. Plus the cloud -- so I have two sets of the data in the server, one on a USB drive away from the box, and one in outer space accessible from any web browser. Plenty of redundancy.

Other Thoughts: For those with issues on a WHS/v1 install, it couldn't be simpler:

Install your hard disks. I use two identical Samsungs -- the second to hold only the second set of Drive Extender files, which are later accessible by plugging the drive into any Windows computer - no obscure file system in an emergency.

Power up, right into Setup, change SATA RAID to "Native," aka IDE. Do not use AHCI for WHS/v1 - the performance gains are negligible, and WHS/v1 often doesn't play well with AHCI hard disks.

Set boot from DVD, and disable PXE boot manager.

Insert your WHS DVD, and the install will run like a champ.

Then, once loaded, go into My Computer/Hardware, and see what drivers you need -- they're all on the DVD that comes with the machine. Use Server 2003 drivers for WHS/v1.

Samsung HD204UI 2TB firmware? Root around the Internet for 3 files - the 621878F4EG.zip firmware file, and HPUSBDisk.exe with ubbe.zip, to make a USB boot stick. Xtract the F4EG.exe on the stick, and run on

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent budget server

Pros: A good reasonably fast server for those on a tight budget. Outperforms all of the workstations in our shop, including another with the identical core i3-540.

Cons: 250gig harddrive is rather small, and seems to benchmark fairly slow despite the 7200rpm and sata II. Works ok though - hard to complain at this price point.

Also sorely lacking in legacy ports. Don't expect to use much of anything unless it's USB capable.

Other Thoughts: Overall, for the price it's still an excellent server and a cheap way to upgrade older equipment. I would definitely recommend.

5 out of 5 eggsyep they rock !

Pros: - runs ESXi 5.0 native no hardware changes/has an intel NIC
- set raid card to ahci
- loaded esxi onto a 32gb usb boot drive
- 250gb SATA drive separate for vm image storage
- ECC ram
- solid build, cpu cooling is great, rear exhaust fan is great
- quiet as a whisper

Cons: It does not run 4 drives out of the box as others have said. You have to purchase 2 additional rails elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: The issue with not running 4 drives without the proper rails, that is not the purpose of this server. This is not meant to be a 4 drive home backup server. There are other servers on the market in this price range that are meant to be file-servers, get one of those for that purpose. This machine is much stronger in that it has RAID for those that need it, ECC Ram.. putting it a class above other home servers, and it has a fairly strong CPU for this price range. These machines can be used for ESXi experimentation, they make nice web-servers and even light database servers. I have a handful of them I am making a cluster with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat server

Pros: Good entry level server. Windows Small Business Server 2011 Essentials installed with no problems. Small form factor can fit pretty much anywhere. Also pretty quiet.

Cons: Little bit cramped when working in it, some cable routing for multiple drives can be a bit tricky. Needs to allow server OS' to be installed without the disc included. Could not install the server OS without it.

Other Thoughts: To the person below who said there are no PCI slots, if you did your homework and read the manuals on their website, the PCI slot on the board (yes it's a PCI slot) is a 3.3V PCI slot that uses cards with the notch towards the back of the slot. A 5V PCI slot would have the notch on the opposite end of the slot and a universal PCI slot has both notches.

2 out of 5 eggsNO PCI SLOT!!!

Pros: Great deal and very quiet system

Cons: No PCI slot on the motherboard is reversed and cannot be used for PCI devices...

Need to buy PCI-Express video card and sound cards. Built-in video card has 1280x1024 max resolution. USB sound card should work too.
