War rages on – but this time on the modern battlefield – in the fourth installment in the Call of Duty series. Russian utltra-nationalists have started a second Russian Civil War and have overthrown a Middle Eastern country to distract Western forces. Play as a United States Marine and a British SAS soldier in a series of intertwined missions that will take you from the burning sands of the Middle East to Azerbaijan, the Ukraine and Russia with the threat of nuclear weapons looming.
Take advantage of the latest in modern weapons and technology with night-vision goggles, man-portable anti-tank weapons and the ability to call in air-strikes on stubborn opponents. Pick up dropped weapons to stay in the action and recover laptops for intelligence on the enemy's plans. Take cover behind objects to survive, but keep on the move, as the enemy can destroy your sanctuary.
The heart of Call of Duty 4 is its proprietary game engine which features real-life and HDR lighting effects, dynamic shadows and depth of field for a realistically rendered war zone. Smarter bullet physics mean that your shots don't stop dead at a wall, but punch through depending on caliber and material. The multi-player modes include 16 maps and 13 different modes of play with the ability to call in UAVs for recon and helicopters for airstrikes. An additional four maps offering scenarios ranging from a fog-shrouded city at night and a close-in building assault to a wide-open village killing field are available for download using the enclosed code. Up to 18 online players can take part in a single match. Lock and load!

Average Game
- Pros: Great campaign mode, unique levels, photo realism.
- Cons: Too easy to kill. Perks make the game outrageously unbalanced. The guns aren't exactly balanced to begin with, but Stopping Power and other random perks make it just unbelievable.
Honestly, the only thing going for this game is its campaign and photorealism. It's fun for a few minutes, but then you realize that it's nothing but "Aim in their general direction to get a kill".
The whole idea of reseting your rank for basically no benefit is rather idiotic to me, but others seem to like it for some reason. Online you seem to always go to the same 5 or 6 levels, even though there are over 3 times that amount.
Honestly, this game is average, but its simplicity makes it so that just about anyone can get a kill. It isn't uncommon to see 1 person get 1/3 to 1/2 the kills in a 75-kills-to-win game. It doesn't promote teamwork, as one person can take 3-4 people in a row if they find that right combination of perks to use with their gun.

- Other Thoughts: I bought this games on day 1 when it was the normal edition, though I got mine from Best Buy with a "Collector's Edition" that came with a free copy of "Behind Enemy Lines" on DVD.
This game isn't for people who want a game that requires heavy teamwork and communication. It's the kind of game you get on to show your friends how well you "pwn noobs".
If you're a fan of competitive Halo, R6V, or other such tactical shooters and enjoy the tactical part of the game, steer clear of this game. It's nothing but an extremely unbalanced party shooter.

- Pros: Just about everything that you could want in a shooter. It has well-rounded gameplay, amazing sound, great physics, beautiful graphics, a compelling story, and one of the best online experiences you will find.
- Cons: The only con I can think of is the lack of co-op.
- Other Thoughts: Thoroughly enjoyable, especially if you have xbox live.

Awesome
- Pros: This game never gets old. If you are a competitive FPS player, this game is the ultimate in re-playability (on xbox live). If you're not, It still has a compelling story line, and you will still find the online play fast paced, exciting, and rewarding.
- Cons: This is the game of the year edition but it doesn't come with the free maps.
- Other Thoughts: The sequel to this game is coming out in a couple months.. might be worth it to wait for that.
bad - game disc unreadable
- Pros: game is awesome. the online multiplayer is good
- Cons: can only play upto first part of act II in the campaign and after that whenever i restart from my saved game - the game won't paly. unreadable disc........ i even paid 8 bucks shipping to get the game disc replaced from newegg - BUT the new one still doesn't work....
now i am going to get this game from a shop where i can return the defective game and not have to pay half the game price in shipping cost for returns

- Pros: Great graphics and nice story line, also it has intense battles and very simple instructions
- Cons: You can notice the game glitch out sometimes with people half way through a wall but it does have a lot of pixels to calculate so its not that bad
