5 out of 5 eggsGreat product

Pros: Great equipment with great sound and a lot of function to fool around with. Great display in the front of the receiver for clarity view of what output you are in. Many sound option from variaty of output. Have no problems with it so far. Plus great deal when purchase for this receiver compare to the stores.

Cons: The receiver clicks when you turn it on/off.

Other Thoughts: All in all it is a great product so far for the price when it was on discount price. Definitly recommend to other looking for a 7.2 receiver.

5 out of 5 eggsTerrific Bargain on Sale

Pros: *Sounds great with my Polk RSi series speakers and Hsu sub.
*Cinema DSP 3D mode allows for adding two additional height speakers. Adds interesting ambience, particularly for sports and movies.
*YPAO auto speaker setup and room correction system provides a good starting point for fine tuning room.
*None of the HDMI handshake problems I had with my Onkyo.
*Very good and intuitive onscreen GUI controls.
*Easy-to-read and informative front display.
*Front USB for firmware upgrades and music play with flash drives (manual says USB hard drives not supported but a WD portable hard drive plays just fine on mine).
*7.2 channel preamp outputs if you want to add separate power amps later.
*HD radio built-in. Tuner works great with my BIC Beambox.
*Lots of extra features I haven't even gotten to yet.
*Hard to match the value when on sale.
* After my Onkyo, it's a real pleasure to have an AVR that you can't fry an egg on.

Cons: *Tiny buttons on the remote, and lots of 'em. If you have big fingers and/or bad eyes, could be a problem. Use a Harmony remote instead.
* Owners manual can be intimidating. LOTS of stuff in there and some of it's hard to find. Recommend downloading the PDF version so you can search.
*YPAO room correction only measures one listening location vs Audyssey's 3+. Judicious use of an SPL meter for fine tuning can compensate.

Other Thoughts: This AVR wasn't even on my radar screen until I was lucky to find a showroom that allowed me to audition it with the same speakers I have at home. It sounded better, to me, than all the Onkyos, Denons, and HKs I A/B-ed it against. You can read all the spec sheets you want, but nothing beats a live audition with your own ears. I'm very well pleased with my Yammy.

1 out of 5 eggsNot really happy...

Pros: Bought it when it was on sale at
Looks great; when it works sound is amazing.

Cons: Died after 3 quarters of the Super Bowl. Bought it back in Sept 28th, opened it last night. Hooked it up at the start of the Super Bowl and it died 3 minutes into the 4th quarter. Don't know how or why, speakers were set to -20dB [volume] which is not even mid level I believe. The unit just turned off; I unplugged and turned it back on, then it shuts off after 5 seconds.

Other Thoughts: I've had other Yamaha products before and they perform flawlessly; don't know if this was just a bad apple in the batch or what.

4 out of 5 eggsHappy Days

Pros: Price.
Sounds Great.
Solid construction.
Auto speaker calibration.
On screen menu does make things easy.
DSP functions are good if you like that.
Ipod integration work with on screen. Can navigate ipod from TV.

Sources: PS3, Tivo HD
Speakers: Def Tech Mythos Gems, ML dynamo sub

Cons: Rapid clicking when switching between inputs on some occasions.
On screen menus are not overlaid video, are are not in HD. Also it looks pretty bad compared to SONY.
Switching to on-screen menu is slow.
HD radio tuner take 3-4 secs to lock in a station.
Remote in general is not very good. Dated looking and too many buttons IMO.

Other Thoughts: Wish I could set LFE crossover on a per-speaker basis.
Wish it had a front HDMI input for camcorder/digicam.
