The name “Monitor” is special to Polk Audio. The original Polk Audio Monitor Series, produced in the mid-1970s, ushered in the modern loudspeaker era by setting the standard for performance and value. The original Monitor Series is the line that made Polk Audio famous with its simple, sturdy construction, clear, accurate sound, powerful bass and superior imaging—all at a price that made great sound available to everyone. The newly reborn Monitor Series II is classic Polk: a quality-built, affordable line of high performance loudspeakers for music and home theater.

They are highly efficient, so they can be driven easily by unpretentious receivers, and they are voice matched for lifelike surround sound environments. The Monitor Series boasts a stylish contemporary look, with vinyl veneer finishes, modern dark grey faces, and bold stabilizer feet on the tower models. Built for speed, sound quality and value, the Monitor Series is a great introduction to high performance sound.

  • newegg Exceptional Sound Quality The Polk Audio Monitor30B boasts a 5.25" Bi-Laminate composite dynamic balance driver stiff with good damping for high efficiency, excellent bass and midrange clarity with lower distortion. And a 1-inch Fabric/Polymer Composite Dynamic Balance Dome Tweeter with powerful Neodymium magnet structure delivers clear and detailed high frequency response for realistic reproduction of vocals and instruments.
  • newegg Enhanced Features The Polk Audio Monitor30B features small-diameter driver design that delivers wide dispersion, better mid-range, and more detailed bass response for an open, “box-less,” three-dimensional sound. Non-resonant all-MDF enclosure construction with ¾"-thick baffles ensures cleaner, clearer, more lifelike sound quality. Crossovers use Mylar bypass capacitors for more detailed high frequencies. Critically Tuned Flared Port minimizes port noise (“chuffing”) for good low frequency extension with low distortion, resulting in natural, full-bodied sound with rich bass.
  • newegg Magnetically Shielded The magnetically-shielded Polk Audio Monitor30B can be put at any proximity to display devices such as TVs and LCD monitors without loss of sound quality caused by interference.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers

Pros: Very well built and sound is so much better than the speakers they replaced.

Cons: No cons that I can think of.

Other Thoughts: I bought a Polk Audio center speaker to upgrade the one I was using which was the typical speakers included in an "all in one box" home theater system. The sound was so great that is totally overwhelmed the side and rear speaker. Soooo, I ordered 4 of these bookshelf speakers and mounted them on the wall. Now I have a new love for watching movies. I would highly recommend them.

5 out of 5 eggsPerfect

Pros: High quality
Wall Mountable

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Tough to go wrong with Polk Monitors IIs. I know the trend is toward small and compact speakers for home theatre. But size still matters as it relates to sound. I'm using these as height speakers in a 7.1 system. Thought about using for surround, too, and they would have worked well for that. But I went with towers for front and side surround since my mounting options for side surround weren't ideal--and I didn't want stands. So went with towers for side surround even if it's a tad overkill. But frankly, the 30s could be used as primary front speakers instead of towers, if one didn't have room or a budget for towers. Just pair with a good subwoofer (I have the Bic F-12... stay away from Polk subs other than maybe the 505). Though the 30s are larger than traditional "satellite" speakers that are more common nowadays in complete 5.1 package systems, these will knock the socks off of those systems. And they're light enough (9 lbs each) where one can still find inexpensive wall mounts or can use generic speaker stands (just make sure they can hold 10 lbs).

I thought about going with the 40s or the 45Bs (in the newer Monitor series), but the extra weight and size of the 40s or 45Bs made it impractical for height speakers.

These can handle a powerful Receiver/Amp (I have the Pioneer 1323-K), but are efficient enough that they'll work well even with an entry level or midrange AV receiver or amp. Newegg is THE place to buy Polk speakers. If one is patient and willing to buy piecemeal (buy towers one month, bookshelf another month, and a center channel another month--just wait for the killer sales), you can put together a complete high quality 5.1 or 7.1 speaker system for far less than you'd think--and they'll outperform even the "high-end" satellite systems.

Just remember to match your speakers as best as possible. The new Monitors (75T, 65T, 55T, 45B, and 35B) and older Monitor Series ii (70s, 60s, 50s, 40s and 30s) have identical specs and are interchangeable so you can mix those without concern. The hardest part will be finding a Center Channel within the Monitor series. The Monitor Center Channels (CS-2, 15C or 25C) don't go on sale as frequently, and seem to be out of stock quite a bit. But with a little effort and patience for sales, you can piece together a system that kills it!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: For the price these are awesome bookshelves. I have these powered as surrounds in my 7.2 Onkyo TX-NR626 setup. If you are looking for budget surrounds and like monopole for your rears, these are a good fit. They are clear and non fatiguing in my setup.

Cons: If i was expecting huge bass output then i would be dissapointed.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat speakers

Pros: Amazing sound, great price, no need for a sub.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For $100, I can't believe I got speakers this nice. I have a Lepai LP-2020A+ for these speakers, and even with the minimum 20W per speaker, they still put out a ton of sound. I was originally looking into getting a subwoofer after reading the reviews on these, but after hearing them I definitely won't be buying one. For a small (about 15x15ft) room, they put out plenty of bass.

5 out of 5 eggsPolk Monitor

Pros: Sound quality, build strength, price point, bass from larger bookshelf speaker, tweeter quality.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: For my HT setup in the family room I run monitor 40's for front L and R, CS2 series II center, monitor 30's L and R rears and Polk psw110 sub in a room measuring 22x18. Overall the sound from this setup is really good for the price point and I have not been able to find many other options that can compete for clarity or sound quality as this Polk setup without going to larger floorstanding speakers and increasing the $ range by a significant amount. I was running Klipsch before this setup and enjoyed them also, but thought that the highs were a little hard on my ears and these Polks have a slightly fuller sound to them.

5 out of 5 eggsBang for the buck!

Pros: Crisp sound
Nice definition at low power
Excellent base response
Great addition to any system. I bought these to replace my Onkyo factory speakers that came with my system. After installing the Polk speakers, it is apparent that the Onkyo's took a lot of power to run. When I re-ran the calibration program, the polks are considerably louder, but sound way better. Great purchase, great deal at 1/2 price.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Not really a con, but I thought they were rather large for a bookshelf speaker at 11x10x7". The Monitor40's come in at almost 16", which was way to tall for my shelf.

5 out of 5 eggsSo nice I bought them twice

Pros: Great sound
5-way binding posts
Wall-mount brackets
Can be mounted on-wall with just drywall screws (use caution)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Remember these are bookshelf speakers. These are not low-range speakers, and if bass is what you want from these, then you'll want a subwoofer. These handle what most bookshelf speakers should be able to handle. If you're not going to use a sub, then get the Monitor 40's (which I also have).

Used as desktop computer speakers with a PSW10 subwoofer. Another set is used as part of a 7.2 setup, and a third set will probably be purchased.

5 out of 5 eggsWow

Pros: Look Great and sound awesome

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I bought these to replace some very old Cerwin's that had blown out. I installed as Home theater fronts with a new Denon receiver. I was blown away. How can such a small speaker sound this fantastic! I cranked up the music as loud as I wanted with no distortion. I love these! I am going to add the matching center speaker at some point so I have a "matched" set for my HT. I debated between these and about 2 other competing speakers, but am happy I picked these.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Gaming/Music Sound

Pros: I bought these to replace the Logitech z523 setup I was using for console gaming. Pairing the Polk's with a Lepai LP-168HA amp I got a sound that stomps the Logitech setup for sure.
They have the range one would want for gaming, Killzone Shadowfall and AC Black flag had the range I was looking for on my ps4.
They have great Highs and mids...(Continue to Cons)

Cons: ...but the lows aren't apparent as much as I would like them to be. So I will be purchasing the psw505 to fill in the blank and create the thump I want.

Other Thoughts: I cant doc them an egg for any reason based on the overall value of these units. Though to me they seem to lack in bass, to others I feel as if it may already be at a comfortable level. After all they are only book shelf speakers.
