Definitive Technology SuperCube II 8" High-Pressure Subwoofer (Black) Single

  • 14 Hz – 200 Hz
  • Internal Amplifier Power: 1250 watts
ICON Loading...

If you are assembling a superior performance home theater system with a high definition video projector or monitor along with an audio system that exceeds the sound quality and sheer visceral impact of premiere movie theaters, without taking up a large amount of floor-space, then this is the subwoofer for you. The SuperCube II incorporates an 8 inch SuperCube® Technology woofer pressure coupled to two 8 inch Ultra Low Bass Radiators. The total piston area is over 30% greater than 12-inch diameter woofer but with far greater speed, musicality and control than a single large diameter woofer could ever deliver. The SuperCube II can easily fill your in-home theater with loud, visceral, extended and musical bass yet it occupies a mere one square foot of floor-space.

  • newegg Music Lovers Rejoice There’s more to home entertainment than rocket blasts and explosions—there is music, be it in the movies you watch or the CDs you enjoy. And for music the quality of a subwoofer’s performance is way more important than the quantity. The bass should be “tight,” precise, and musical. Bass notes should have pitch, not just a dull thud or drone. Definitive Technology was started by and is run by music fanatics and the very first thing we do to evaluate a subwoofer prototype design is to listen to music. If a subwoofer doesn’t do an exemplary job with music reproduction, it isn’t a Definitive.
  • newegg Massive Power The SuperCube II is powered by a 1250-watt class D amplifier. The result is astounding high-definition bass performance extending effortlessly down to 14 Hz. Slam, pace and rhythm are exemplary as is the ability to actually shake foundations. A complete complement of inputs and controls are included on this surprisingly compact and stylish cube. To top off the extraordinary performance, the SuperCube II is finished in gorgeous piano-gloss black.
  • newegg High-Definition Subwoofer Drivers Deliver Superior Detail and Lightning-Fast Transient Response The powerful, high-definition drivers used in all Definitive powered subwoofers were specifically engineered for their task: to deliver rock-solid low distortion bass, reaching down to the lowest frequencies, with an outstanding quality of superior transient response (“tightness”). The special ultra-stiff cones are joined to specially formulated surrounds and long-throw voice coils and spiders. The incredibly rigid baskets are engineered to hold the massive magnet structures and large voice coils in absolute alignment. The high temperature voice coils are made of aluminum wound with triple insulated ultra-pure copper wire and baked in epoxy for power handling in excess of 750 watts.
  • newegg Rock Solid Non-Resonant Cabinets Ensure Pure Low Distortion Response The cabinet of a loudspeaker plays a large part in its sonic performance. Definitive's subwoofers utilize monocoque cabinets, which have been specifically engineered to be totally inert and vibration free, to ensure you of absolutely pure sonic reproduction. Monocoque means that the cabinet is of a unitized construction where all panels are permanently joined together into one solid structure. The cabinet walls themselves are high-density medite fused together by space-age polymer adhesives. The front and rear panels are nearly 2-inches thick and the cabinets each incorporate multiple internal braces to ensure total solidity.
  • newegg Adjustable Electronic Crossovers Assure a Perfect Match to Your System and Room The sophisticated low distortion electronic crossover incorporated in the SuperCube II is a masterpiece of design and execution. It contains a complete range of hookups, circuitry and features which allow it to be connected to and perfectly blended with any system and room. A continuously adjustable low pass filter control allows you to choose a high frequency roll-off of from 40 to 150 Hz. It also features a rarely found high pass filter control that allows you to roll off the bass of your main speakers. Along with a continuously variable phase alignment control and a precision level control you have all the necessary tools at your disposal to achieve absolutely seamless blending between main speakers and subwoofer.
  • newegg Easy Hookup to Any System The SuperCube II has a complete range of inputs, outputs and features to allow easy and effective hookup to any system either singly or in a stereo pair. Both speaker level and low-level inputs are provided as well as a separate direct-in LFE low-level input (which bypasses the crossover network) which may be used by itself or in combination with left and right channel high- or low-level inputs for the ultimate in subwoofer flexibility and performance.

5 out of 5 eggsawesome sub

Pros: totally amazing unit. Excellent bass. Makes all the windows, doors, and just about everything else shake with fury when at full power. Hits lower notes than any other sub i have had, or heard in homes/stores before. So much sub, in such a small package

Cons: not available anymore, would be nice in a 7.2 config

Other Thoughts: if you can still get ahold of one of these beast do so. I got mine for 400 back in the day and wish now i would have gotten 2.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat small sub.

Pros: needed small powerful sub that looks good too. It fit the bill since got it on sale to top it off. I have it turned up 1/4 of the way and it produces powerful clear and hard base. Quality is seen when you look at it and when you try to pick it up you will feel it too.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsAlmost too much sub even for a big room!

Pros: I decided to upgrade from a Supercube III in May, 2012 when the new models of Supercubes were introduced and they were clearing out the old models. While the Supercube III was adequate for my 16' by 25' great room with 10' ceilings and carpeted flooring, I figured that a bit more power couldn't hurt.

First, there is a huge difference in power between the Supercube III and the Supercube I. Even though the Supercube I doesn't seem that much bigger than the Supercube III when it's placed into position, the Supercube I is in fact a whole different animal!

Now that I have the Supercube I for six months I ready for a review. I do believe that it takes about 100 hours of paying time to get these subs broken in. Someone reviewing them the day after they set them up is not doing the sub justice.

Personally I find the Supercube I's base to be clean and crisp. I've had a Martin Logan Dynamo 700 and other DefTech subs and prefer the Supercube I to all of them.

Cons: The bad side of this sub is that it is just a bit much for my room. I have it set way down to keep the neighbors happy and to keep it from overpowering the rest of my DefTech speaker layout.

Other Thoughts: In summary - GREAT SUB! But unless you have a really, really big listening environment to fill you could probably get by with a Supercube II or III.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent sound, great price. I was reviewing the Definitive Technology 4000 and 6000. However, for my bedroom, the specs did not justify the additional costs. I purchased one Supercube II for $389 during a Newegg sale and loved it! It was exactly what my system needed. Newegg had another sale and I purchased a second one for $369. A really great deal. Two for less than the cost of one 4000.

Cons: Newegg deactivated the Supercube II. I wish I could purchase two more for my family room.

Other Thoughts: Please bring them back!

5 out of 5 eggsLOVE IT!!!!

Pros: I have worked in the HT business for many years, both selling and installing, I have own and installed many different systems. My favorite sub was the Klipsch RF12W, I sold it during a move and decided to replace it with the deftech. I had heard the supercube at a Magnolia demo in New York city when Best Buy bought Magnolia. I really liked it then but now that I own it I love it! The sound you get for the size of the sub CAN NOT BE MATCHED! Yes there are louder subs, subs with a lower range, and smaller subs, but this has by far the best size to sound ratio! I would recommend supercube subs to anyone that whats massive sound without massive size. I had a complete Klipsch reference package and sold it because of the size and got deftech bookshelfs and speakercraft in walls with the super cube, it sounds just as good (if not better) with hardly any space taken. Me and her are both happy!

Cons: ummm, still trying to think of some....

3 out of 5 eggsEh..

Pros: This thing can really pump out the bass, it's powerful enough to make your head hurt. This sub makes an EXCELLENT home theater sub. Footsteps from monsters rumble and sound effects are just epic. This sub makes my basement on the opposite end of the house rattle.

Cons: Despite all the reviews saying this sub is tight clean accurate musical and so on this sub is definitely not. As another reviewer said, an old logitech system will pick out the bass notes better. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: Despite a 50$ logitech system being more accurate, the bass from this sub is VERY smooth and 8-10 times louder. If you have songs that roll around on the bass you will love it but anything with lots of say low bass guitar and a drumset will cause half the notes to be lost, sadface. Also, there is one frequency (haven't looked at hz) that this sub jumps out at. I don't believe its a room issue because ive had it set up in 3 rooms and every room has the same issue.

My justification for three eggs is that I bought this sub for music mostly and therefore am not very satisfied.

*DO NOT plug this into a UPS. I had the same issue as the other reviewer in this sub only drawing 21-25 watts when plugged into my UPS (CP1500AVRLCD). Surge protector fixed the issue and the sub came alive.*

5 out of 5 eggsOne Crazy Little SUB!

Pros: Nice clean crisp bass, but when this thing needs to belt out some neighborhood rattling lows, whether it’s just playing some tunes, or Blu-Ray movies, it performs very well. Replaced an older Definitive Pro 12'' sub, and this Super Cube was well worth it!

Cons: Have to be very careful when cleaning the nice glossy finish, scratches easly.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed so Far

Pros: Power efficient. Only draws 7 watts when off and 21 watts when on and at low to regular listening levels(no matter what you have the volume/gain set at). The look is nice and it is small, therefore taking up little space.

Cons: I've had it only a month now so maybe it's not broken in yet but for the price I am disappointed in the sound quality. It's pretty sad when my 99 dollar Logitech Z-2300 sub has tighter and more accurate bass than this one(with seemingly less distortion at high levels). Yes the Logitech system is THX certified but it was only 99 brand new for a 2.1 system! I've tried many different settings and at this point I would give it 4-5 stars only if I paid less than 200. Not much better than the cheap Energy ESW-8 it replaced.

Other Thoughts: Packaging was really good to protect the sub but was hard to get out without damaging the unit. I cut the box down the corners to safely lift the sub out. I also don't like how they publish their specs. I see no RMS ratings or dynamic power ratings in regards to watts with THD. Also the frequency response given is not at the standard +/- 3 dB ratings so it's hard to accurately compare with other subs.
