5 out of 5 eggsIt sold out!!

Pros: Darnit! Just as I was about to order this excellent PC, Newegg sold out of them! ARGH!!! I was able to put an "auto-notify" on this item so that I'll get an email when it is back in stock again, at which point i WILL order it.

Cons: No cons that I know of, other than the 32bit version of Vista that ships with this Acer will only recognize 3.5GB of the 4GB that it ships with.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Computer

Pros: This is a really good computer, very large hard drive and haven't noticed any slowness in processing speed. Loaded it with Windows Server 2008 and it works like a champ!

Cons: The first one i ordered got lost in shipping, but newegg was very helpful in sending out a new one right away (on a new order) and refunding the first order.

4 out of 5 eggsA great machine, but be aware of little nagging issues

Pros: We're getting to a point where out-of-the box, <$1K PCs are suitable for what was once the realm of home-built boxes and specialty machines. This is one such unit. Its high RAM count is perfect for editing massively multi-layer images in Photoshop or creating long animations in Flash. The ATI video card can handle almost any video game effects you throw at it, from antialiasing to reflective textures to bloom to motion blurs.

As for Vista itself, this model comes with Home Premium, the one with all the bells and whistles that Microsoft foolishly thinks make it worth buying, and it all runs perfectly smoothly. It's probably a resource hog, but there's enough resources on this bad boy to slop a whole penfull.

And this sounds weird, but I really liked the keyboard that it came with. The keys are softer than most I've used. I feel like I'm making fewer typing mistakes due to missing and hitting in between keys.

Cons: For those hoping for a dual-boot Vista/XP setup, you'll be disappointed to know that you probably can't install XP on this. The setup CD crashed every time for me so I gave up. Which is a shame because Vista does not like some programs made before 2007, including several games. So check online to make sure all your software is Vista compatible or has a patch available first! (On a related note, Ubuntu Linux 7.1 doesn't recognize some of the hardware and thus cannot enable the Vista-like Beryl desktop effects.)

I found the USB speakers to be a little underpowered and flat sounding. They have no bass boost, although the audio chip does. The odd positioning of the front ports prevents users from using the top of the PC to put stuff on. Also the front panel's buttons are all on the right-front corner of the unit, making access tricky if you keep your CPU to the right of the monitor.

Other Thoughts: Keyboard features buttons for media player controls, Web, Email, and Search, as well as the very handy Sleep, but no custom assignable ones. Speakers are USB powered so you could theoretically power the whole system without a power strip.

And of course, monitor sold separately. The video card features dual DVI output and claims to be "HD", so you're free to go nuts with monitor setup without additional video hardware. (Be advised that you need a DVI-capable monitor or a converter to use this computer; the VGA output on the back is useless due to there being no driver for the onboard video.)

Comes bundled with a CD/DVD burning program, a backup utility, a 60-day trial of Office 2007, and a 90-day trial of Norton System Protection. There is the typical accoutrement of worthless bundled programs that have vague purpose, but they are easy enough to uninstall.

All in all a good performer; any issues I had with it were either minor or OS-related.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat purchase!

Pros: Very very fast. Fairly easy to set up. No major issues with Vista yet. Best deal available for this price. Was delivered by Newegg before expected date. Great purchase and highly recommended.

Cons: Needed an adapter for my blue monitor connection and a non USB connection for my mouse. Blinking light in standby mode is annoying. Instructions a bit weak and did not match actual computer connections.

Other Thoughts: Comes with a temporary version of Microsoft Office 07 that you will need to purchase or remove.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent value.

Pros: Very good straight out of the box. Can run just about anything you need without the need for upgrading. Great specs for the price. Everything runs wonderfully. Windows Media Center + TV Tuner is awesome.

Cons: Had a dent in the back that is now restricting me from closing the case fully... I don't know who did it and its not that big of a deal its really just cosmetic.

Other Thoughts: Vista is not that bad. I don't understand why people blow it up, and if it is too intensive this computer can certainly handle it.

4 out of 5 eggsThe price is right

Pros: This is a terrific value for a decent computer. I didn't really want to spend a mint but didn't want to get stuck with an e-box and this was just the right price for about what I was looking for. It really does run quiet - my former AMD desktop sounds like a helicopter next to it. Front USB and Audio ports placed on top are super convenient. Lots of USB ports (I think ten all together).

Cons: The wiring could have been much cleaner and more secure, but it's really bunched in there to fit the smallish box. No power switch in the back - makes me wonder how cheap the power supply is. The keyboard/mouse/speakers are pretty lame, you'll want to keep your good stuff. I've been forced into the Vista era.

Other Thoughts: When I first got this PC I also experienced no response at first when plugging it in. I opened up the case and realised that the main power cord to the motherboard had dislodged during shipping. To ppl who had the no VGA response: you don't need to buy a new monitor, or uninstall the Video Card to get a screen. An older monitor with a VGA port will work on the Vid Card's DVI port with a DVI to VGA adapter:

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent once you get it working

Pros: Fast at multitasking.
Great price.
4GB of RAM
750 GB hard drive
Quiet except when the fans speed up and burning a disc. It then makes a lot of noise.

Cons: DVD drive is noisy when burning a disc.
No on-site warranty coverage. Must ship unit to Texas for service.
Basically no written documentation in the box.
The very bright blue power-on light is annoying in a dark room. It flashes in hybernation mode.
Included speakers are mostly worthless - very poor sound quality.
No HDMI connector on the video card

Other Thoughts: When I received this computer it powered on, but that's all. There was no video signal being output. I spent 8 days with Acer phone support (which is worthless although they do speak english) and online support (which was actually pretty good, but slow) When I finally learned that the onboard vga connection is disabled by the video card, which only has 2 dvi connections, I removed the card. Then the onboard vga worked. I then reinstalled the video card and everything has worked perfectly since. You must have a DVI connector to use the video card and therefore the PC too. Here's a little info not included with the PC. Motherboard is a G33T-AM, DVD drive is a DH-16ATS (Lite-On?),Power supply is a PS-6301-08A - 300W (ATI recommends 400W for their Radeon HD 2600 HD card, but no problems yet with the lesser PS. Hard Drive is a Western Digital WD7500AAKS, ACER keyboardKU-0355- it is good. Mouse M-UVACR1 - works fine. I would recommend the this PC.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat computer Great Deal

Pros: Best price i have seen for a quad core. it has a great amount of ram and hard drive space. Runs World of warcraft beautifully and Halo runs smooth too.

Cons: VGA Port doesnt work with the ATI Graphics card so i had to buy a vga to dvi adapter. But that isn't a bad problem

Other Thoughts: It is a great deal and the best computer i have ever bought

5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: Man it can rip a CD in no time flat.

Cons: In sleep mode the BIG power button LED flashes and in the dark, in my livingroom, it is distracting while watching a movie, since it sits next to my TV.

Other Thoughts: Found it weird at first that the OS was 32-bit running on 64-bit processors. I didn't know you could do that. You learn something new everyday.
