4 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Small footprint, nice looking system and fast with a wifi connection that surprised the hell out of me when I started clicking around for a browser.

Cons: Got all kinds of nags about security for the first day or two but peeked around and trashed some stuff and that went away. Still haven't figured out the two drives C & D. Thought I to have just one. A bit of a learning curve for a old man.

Other Thoughts: Really hate this Vista stuff with programs that I have to pony up money for to use. Got rid of as much of MS as I could and went to OfficeOrg and an old WordPerfect suite that I had laying around. Tried to get Debian/Linux in there with no luck. Running an old autoCad program just fine. Thought of trashing the MS software and installing Linux but that'll have to wait till I have a betting understanding of the system.

2 out of 5 eggsHardware problems....

Pros: Looks nice and runs great, when it runs.... Nice monitor. The nice compact design is nice for a home pc that isn't going to need to be upgraded. For the price, if it lasts 4 to 5 years, it is a winner.

Cons: I have had nothing but issues with this systems.. First, it comes with a wireless keyboard and mouse, but will not boot up with the wireless keyboard. I had to use a USB Keyboard to get it to boot the first time. 3 days after getting it running, it took a Windows update and killed it all together. Wouldn't boot up to recoginize the HHD Driver, so the monitor wouldn't come on, so I couldn't even see the issue. Sent it back to Acer for repair, and they replaced the the Hard Drives to correct this issue. Once I got it back, I am having all types of other issues with it not shutting down correctly or waking up from sleep mode.

There is other hardware issues than they replaced the first time, so I would imagine I will end up sending it away again for repair. Paying shipping is cutting into the great price for this PC!!!

Other Thoughts: 1 - When you turn it on after it being shut down, it stops at the DOS screen, and you have to hit “F1” for it to continue. After it boots up, most of the time the clock will be wrong and read the time it was shut down.

2 - Sometimes when you go to shut it down, you get a “COM Warning Error” message. You have to exit shut down, wait a few minutes and then try to shut down again.

3 - Sometimes the PC will not shut down completely. The blue LED light on the box will stay on or blink. As if the system is hung up shutting down. The only way to shut it down is hold down the Power button. But, if you do this, you will have to unplug the power supply to get it to reboot. Then you get the DOS screen, which you have to hit “F1” to get Windows to start.

4 - When the system goes into sleep mode, (blue LED is blinking), you can’t get it to wake up. The only way to get the system back is to unplug the power supply and reboot.

4 out of 5 eggsPretty good system

Pros: This system looks cool to me. It has a very small foot print on my desk and just looks slick. Amazing for so much bang. I haven't had it long enough to know if its any good, but so far it works great.
Wireless keyboard and mouse are cool, too. Saved me a lot of tangles.

Cons: No documentation for set up as such. The chart that came with the system stunk. It took a little bit of time to sort it all out, as some of the connectors were new to me.

Other Thoughts: I wanted a good, strong work machine. This seems to do the trick and leaves me a lot of desk space, even with the 20" monitor, which I love. We'll see how it does over time.
