5 out of 5 eggsI love this!

Pros: This thing is fantastic! I can watch videos at 1080 with no hiccups at all! I'm running a version of XBMC by XBMCfreak that is geared towards boxes running with this hardware.

Cons: Everybody is sold out and I really want another one of these; anybody hate theirs and want to get rid of it!? :)

Other Thoughts: Some people are claiming that the audio doesn't work over HDMI, and some that audio does work, but not 5.1; the hardware IS capable of this, it's your operating system that is holding you back!

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Purchased for XBMC, and boy does it deliver. Completely silent out of the box, XBMC is very fast, playback is perfect. Connected it to a gigabit network, pointed it to a Windows Home Server share with my media, and it did the rest. Not much bigger than the Wii sitting next to it.

Cons: I don't have HDMI audio, so I'm having to use the jack on the front. I'd really prefer it was in the back, the cable running to the front looks lame. It'd be nice if instructions on opening it were provided, it took a few minutes to figure out.

Other Thoughts: Know what you're getting and you won't be disappointed. Yes, the XP install has a lot of garbage included, but that's not what I got it for anyway. I'm sure it'd be a perfect little web browsing machine if a clean install of XP done. I gave it 2GB RAM, mostly because I already had it.

5 out of 5 eggsXBMC

Pros: I purchased one of these to make a HTPC using XBMC as my media center interface. It has been purring along without much of an issue on the Hardware side. Plays 1080p files without so much as a slowdown.

Cons: Audio Out is on the front of the box making for some slightly ugly wiring for those who have to use it.

No VESA mount kit included.

Other Thoughts: Tried to contact Acer to see where I could locate and purchase a VESA mount kit that came with other models of Revo. Couldn't get a straight answer or figure out where to purchase one.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for home Ubuntu server & desktop

Pros: - Small,
- cheap,
- not noisy,
- decent amount of memory & hard drive.
- 6 usb + 1 e-sata.
- Works well with Ubuntu server and Ubuntu desktop.
- Upgradeable to 4GB ram.

Cons: - Flimsy power button. What will I do if it breaks? I am serious, it seems it can break at any time if I press it the wrong way. Since it's not easy to repair I will probably need to dump the unit and buy a new one.
- Flimsy base. If you want to use it vertically, it "moves"...
- Not suitable for horizontal position either. It does not have "legs"; i.e. will get hot.

Other Thoughts: I needed an Ubuntu server, so I don't care about HDMI, wireless network, audio, mic, nVidia video driver, etc, etc. I care about compatibility with all linux services and I was able to format ext4 with LVM! Can you believe it? Also java 6 and Tomcat 6, ssh & ufw run awesome there.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: -The NVIDIA ION card is amazing.
-HDMI out.
-Plenty of input/outputs

Does everything it promises and nothing it doesn't. I got this for a media center and I'm pretty impressed so far. Does everything I want it to. Has no problem decoding HD video. I would suggest a youTube search for "Acer Aspire Revo" and look at some of the reviews. They usually don't lie.

Cons: -Not a super fast machine, but that's not what this machine is meant for. If you buy this expecting a speed demon, you're in the wrong place. Buy this expecting a good little machine for a media center, or other HD video use.

-Ports are on 3 of the 4 sides, which makes it awkward. However with such a small unit, internal space is limited for placement, so it's understandable. My unit is going to be out of sight so it doesn't matter to me. If you are going to have this in plain sight, just be aware that the imputs/outputs are on back, top and front.

-160gb HDD wasn't a problem with me either because I took advantage of the eSata port and picked up a 1tb external. Otherwise it may pose a problem if you need more storage.

-XP. I had to install Windows 7 right when I got it because some of my peripherals weren't compatible with XP. It's not a problem anymore, but kind of a hassle, especially since there's no CD/DVD drive.

-BLOATWARE! I'm not going to go off... it speaks for its

Other Thoughts: BUY THIS!
If you're looking for an awesome media center and sweet little video card for 1080p.

If you're looking for a super fast, mulitasking machine.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for parents

Pros: I needed computer for my parents. They needed a large monitor and basic performance. The HDMI output is more than adequate to drive a 23" HDMI monitor. Performance is also more than adequate for internet browsing and occasional word processing and powerpoint. I added a USB Wifi adapter and it works great.

Cons: Sometimes it won't "wake up" from "stand-by". The only way to get it out of that mode is to press power until it powers down.

4 out of 5 eggsIt's....ok

Pros: Cheap, small

Cons: Cheap, small

Other Thoughts: Purchased as a workstation for someone working mostly via rdp.

It's ok, but strains under a moderate workload.

I can't take more than 1 egg off for performance though, given what it is.

2 out of 5 eggsLess than expected, not meeting my needs

Pros: * HD resolution to desktop (of TV)
* Easy connect (single audio/video cable) - HDMI
* Plays simple video (youtube 360p) and DVD (stereo audio)
* Runs simple media player, like XBMC

Cons: * DOES NOT transfer 5.1 across HDMI cable
* HD Video (youtube, bluray convert, HD camcorder) plays poorly, stuttering.

Other Thoughts: I would return this if I thought I could get my money back without spending $20 on shipping. For simple photo and video, it works fine. No digital audio at all transfers across the HDMI, which means, I can't output it to my stereo. Heck, even simple stereo (2.0) would be be nice to my stereo, so I could at least listen to music.

5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING Value + found "white death" cure!

Pros: Perhaps the cheapest new PC (with Windows) money can buy... With decent video to boot! Runs circles around Intel GMA950 video chipset *dual* core atom machines I've tested. HDD, RAM and (lack of) mini-pci wireless all easily / cheaply upgradable if you need to. Able to stream 1080i video (.ts format using included PowerDVD program) over LAN with no stumbles WHILE running 2 threads of prime95! With fan on "smart" mode (2500RPM), CPU stayed under 55degC, GPU under 60degC, and with fan on full-blast (5000+ rpm... still pretty quiet) CPU cooled to 50deg, GPU to 45deg... DURING this torture test. I happen to like the included "chicklet" keyboard & tiny mouse-- nothing fancy, but if I can touch-type fast and accurately position the cursor, I'm satisfied.

Cons: Lacks WIFI card, and VESA mount bracket that comes with dual-core AR3600 model. You're likely to break a couple tabs opening the case. Although the plastic case has sheet metal RFI shielding, it's apparently quite succeptable to interference-- I got the white screen of death after 11 days of service, just as another reviewer reported, and was ready to RMA, but discovered source of problem was a noisy monitor power brick I'd placed right against the Revo case. White death with the offending brick nearby, no problems with it 6in away! Problem solved. KEEP CHEAP CHINESE POWER BRICKS AWAY FROM IT. I wouldn't be surprised if other white death sufferers mounted this on/near large monitors or noisy PSUs. Of course there is LOTS of worthless software to remove before deploying... like any other loss-leader product. Plastic foot fits rather loosely. VGA jack seems rather weakly physically secured to mobo (or the whole mobo is flexing) One E-clip was missing from a heatsink screw.

Other Thoughts: Uses 800MHz DDR2 SODIMM. No internal antennae for adding wireless-- you'll need antennae and a card. Room for full-length wireless card. (Mini PCI-E?) Fan and heatsink must be removed to remove motherboard & get to HDD screws. HDD set to AHCI mode... not USB adapter friendly for backups-- Had to connect it directly to a motherboard port on my desktop rig to make a backup image. MORE than adequate for a point of sale system station. Temps improved with Zalman silver brush-on heatsink compound.. probably more room for improvement using fancier goo. (Stock was gray phase-change putty)
