3 out of 5 eggsOS not as advertised

Pros: Easy to setup, mounts on the back of the users screens, No longer have to have a computer foot print on the floor. I have ordered older versions of these computers in the past couple of years and have had no issues. Wireless works well, with no antennae to break off.

Cons: I bought this particular computer because it was advertised as having a 32-bit OS installed. Which isn't a big deal to me, but our programmers are still having some 64 bit issues. So I buy the 32 bit systems to give them more time to work on the 64 bit issues with a test box that I built for them. I was quite surprised that when the boxes arrived on the side it states "Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (includes the right to switch to windows 7 32-bit)" So now I have to run the factory restore on every one of these to get them to 32 bit. Making the time to setup these machines take a lot longer now.

Other Thoughts: Should have been installed as advertised, or at least stated somewhere that they are pre-installed with 64 bit with an option for 32-bit.

4 out of 5 eggsperfect for needs

Pros: Comes with mounts and fits perfectly to the back of our Acer V173 monitors. I picked this up to help conserve space, plus they are cheaper than most thin clients. Has Win 7 pro, good RAM amount, and good HDD space (we wont be using much of it). For basic day to day users this is a great computer, plus a major space saver!

Cons: Is a bit painful to setup and has lots of bloatware (lost 1 egg due to this) 5400RPM hard drive, but I knew this going into it so no loss of eggs there. Not easy to take apart it seems. I have not tried to, but if one would like to upgrade the HDD is does not appear to be very easy.

Other Thoughts: All in all this is a good computer, It suits our needs very well. If your in need of a think client style computer go for this. It is a full computer, but not made for power users. Runs surprisingly well for what it is, but has some short comings. Buy this if your in need of a low end computer to get the day to day light work loads done, but for anything else look else where. As the 1st reviewer said this computer is 64-bit not 32, but all Win 7 licenses work for both 32 and 64-bit. If this is an issue I would suggest installing a fresh install of win 7 pro 32bit. Most IT depts should have a cd on hand to do so, if not they need to get one. Plus doing so would eliminate the Bloatware issue.

3 out of 5 eggsSlow, and NOT 32-BIT!

Pros: Very small. Has the option to attach to the VESA mounting holes on the back of your monitor, making it in effect an all-in-one PC, using zero desk space beyond what the monitor needs.

Slick looking.

Cons: I have never used an Atom-cpu NetTop before -- are they all this slow? It took me like an hour to uninstall all the crapware, and not because there was a lot, just because each uninstaller ran excruciatingly slowly.

Beware, the Newegg description says 32-bit, but it comes with 64-bit Win7. I need 32-bit because my print server has no 64-bit drivers, so all the time I've put into it so far will have been a waste of time.

The box it comes in says "32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows are preinstalled on this system". This is not true as far as I can tell, unless it is on the Recovery partition. Documentation is poor and makes no mention of this.

When I called Acer, the tech said if I want a 32-bit OS I will have to PURCHASE and install it myself. The box also says "Includes the right to switch to Windows 7 32-bit". When I read what it says on the box, she first argued but then agreed to escalate me. But of course it was after their working hours, so I have to call back.

Other Thoughts: 3 eggs based on assuming I can get 32-bit Windows without having to buy it. I will take off an egg if that turns out to be wrong, stay tuned.

Documentation is next to nil, doesn't tell you what any of the preinstalled Acer programs do. The doc on the Recovery system is dated 2008, and mentions several "families" of Acer PCs, but NOT THIS ONE! Who would include a 4-year old document (for a different product than it ships with) without updating it? Not impressed.

I am using a 1280 x 1024 monitor and have all the video settings turned down (Aero off, Windows Basic theme etc.) The video system still can barely keep up when I drag or resize a window. So forget about hi-def monitors unless you don't mind serious lag in redrawing the screen.
